For all of you who play lots of droid games

If you are a hardcore user like me and watch divx films play heavy 3d games and so on then its really better using a task manager. Cause the ram gets less and less. Android system needs to long time to close it by itself. And in ther meantime the system gets slow. But if you dont use your mobile for such things you dont need taskmanagers. yxflash video player and games which are graphic intensive needs the most of ram.

Mustang, I do the same stuff as you, and I've never used a task killer. Never had any issues. If you think a task killer is going to make your phone noticeably faster, go ahead and use it. Not using one is not going to slow your phone down. How much sense does keeping an app open and running 24/7 to close down another app make?

in the case HOW I USE THE PHONE it definately slow it down :). 3d games uses a lot of ram. and if i open 2-3 or 4 of them, im a mobile game maniac, then there isnt much ram left. and it is slower. believe it or not, its true. for normal users it doent matter. but for hardcore users it does. more ram is always better als less ram. and if 3-4 games are still in the ram and i JUST NEED ONE then the phone slows down thats fact. the system closes them to late.but pls lets stop this i think this discussion will never end.

but i know that i have about 50% more battery power since i use this app. and also a faster system. if you dont need it its absolutely ok. but i dont like to make a big discussion about it. so this was my last post here :). everybody should make like he wants. but you just can say whats better after using the app. if you hadnt use it you cant know if with or without it your phone runs better. greets.

I'm a hardcore user who has never used a task killer, I have great battery life and great performance. I will never waste RAM on an app that frees up RAM, by constantly running in the background.

but you waste up with many other app that runs in the background :D. the app uses 1 mb ram or something. i think that doesnt hurt that much as a game that eats 20 or more ram. but well its up to you :). definately now END.

android closes yes. bus as i stated IT CLOSES IT TO LATE ! many apps stay to long in the background and that eats a lot of ram. but if you trust android then do it. me and many others i know have other experiences :). and like i said. if you hadnt test it you simply cant know it. so the whole conversation is worth nothing. so pls hang on. thx.

I have tested, it did nothing, the only thing I did notice was a Decrease in battery life, which may of not been directly accountable to the task killer. Just Home out of the game/program and you're all set. If you really want to force close the app, use the app killer that comes preloaded on your phone ;)

strange. many of the users of automatic task killer are claiming that they have IMROVED battery life. also i do. also all i know which using the app do :). i tested it right now. android just closes one game as i already started 4 heavy games. means 3 games were still in the background eating ram. so i really prefer the methode of this app. just pushing the standby button all things are closed. like i said you dont have to use it. but its fact that the app is really usefull. so many users cant be wrong. and i see the advantage every day :). dont want to miss it ever.

btw that you can SEE that the automatic task killer works you just need a app that shows you the list of currently runing apps and amount of ram. then you can see that the task killer really closed all selected apps in the list.

Oh, so you're saying without a 3rd party task killer, Android doesn't close apps, man, that was a dumb design decision on Google's part. Thanks for clearing it up

I think we know how you both feel about task killers now...LOL

I personally use Advanced Task Killer. I rarely use it to kill tasks, but occasionally, when I notice the phone getting really laggy, I pop it open and kill the whole lot and start from scratch.

Hey billyidle, I'm in your area. Fenton.

Read my post correct! I said of course it close apps but to late. If i close manually i simply have sooner more ram. And if the apps are longer in the ram it drains the battery. But pls billy i respect your opinion not to use it and you be so kind to respect mine. Its really enaugh now and i dont think one of us both will change his mind.thx. you sure a nice guy but i like to end this discussion now.

The OP said he was new to Android and was questioniong about closing games/apps. The answer is no, he does not need to close them, the Android OS does that automatically. No 3rd party task killer app needed.

The answer isnt that easy. Like to say its not just yes or no if you need killing tasks. It depends on the usage. Youre absolutely right that android kills unused apps. But often so late that there isnt much ram left. The op simmply should try out both methodes and build his own opinion. Agree?

From what I've read here:
FAQ: Why You Shouldn’t Be Using a Task Killer with Android Geek For Me – Android CDMA Sprint Hero
Task Managers and your Hero - Android Forums

Android is supposed to kill tasks by itself when more memory is needed without incurring any performance penalties. They argue that task killers are unnecessary (except when an app is badly coded and causes memory leaks) and most positive reviews are a placebo effect. These people also claim to be familiar with Linux memory management - are they wrong?
