Free wifi tethering app

Just tried this with my ipad, it does work! Here is the dumbest question you will read all night...I have a wifi hotspot activated it on my phone but it's not an unlimited use plan. I am not checking the box on my own turn on wifi hotspot app and just activating the foxfi app. I wanna make sure I'm using that app and not the pay service. I have them named 2 different names so I think I am ok, but could someone confirm? How can this free?

Sent from my DROID RAZR using DroidForums

I don't think anyone can let you know for sure until after next months bill.

But I'm pretty sure that you have to click through an agreement to start the service unless
you use so much data that they catch on to you. I had a verizon guy tell me that tethering
to use your included 4gb is fine as long as you are not trying to use their software for free.
Maybe i should have got his name just in case lol.

What improvements are you looking for?

Not looking for any improvements persay, just read some people have issues with it dropping out. And didn't know if there might be a better option for people that have root, since this one does not require it.

So, are you saying using FoxFi is a free service or we'll end up with a bill for the data usage?

Thanks.

I'm using it under the assumption it' free, but I'm not using it much, less than 1gb a month. ymmv

Sydman - in my experience Foxfi hotspot is not dropping out at all on my razr. Now if your 4g toggles a lot
I could see it effecting your browsing experience, but that does not happen where I live. There was only one unsolved
complaint in this thread, from scottysize and I'm not sure if he is trying to fix it or already has or if it is a complaint
about his bionic vs his razr. On my razr with a stable 4g signal it works. If your basing you assumptions on the app
store reviews, don't trust that they know what they are doing. Try it for yourself, you can ask for help in this thread
and get it.

Cool, got it downloaded and going to try and see if my coworker can connect to it with his laptop. Thanks for the advice.

Awesome, remember you open the foxfi app to turn on the hotspot, not the verizon app. You give your network a password and hit activate wifi hotspot. Look for android<number> on the laptop list of wifi networks.

Your phone and hotspot will be using 4g/3g to connect to the web, it does not act as a hotspot and bridge you to your local wifi network at the same time.

Yeah it worked great with my co-workers Iphone and MacBook so guess I am good to go. Just keep fingers crossed Verizon does not see what I am doing and try and charge me :)

I've been using FoxFi with mixed success. It works very well for a while, but then the Internet will apparently randomly cut out. I can get the Internet back if I turn WiFi off and back on on my MacBook 2009, without touching FoxFi at all. Anyone else had similar issues?

Both my kids had their IPod touch hooked up through my hot spot with this app. 3 hr road trip and they never lost connection.
