So you save that 400 but do you honestly have it laying around or did you spend it on a latte.

That's the problem everyone always says they'd save hundreds without it, what they fail too realize is that unless they put that money away monthly you probably won't have it just lying around when you break your phone.

Besides i like having an extended warranty with the Tec.

Yeah, its probably lying around in my kitchen at this very moment... in the form of a $300 toshiba thrive tablet and a cup of coffee.

OK. You put your phone in your back pocket and "sit down". Is this normal for a phone to be subject to that? Your phone falls off your counter in the kitchen on your tile floor and cracks? Doesn't most electronic devices that fall from heights break? Same thing goes for falling out of your car to the pavement...ect.

Things are going to break and these things are not "breakproof". I am by no means saying that there is not a problem. I am just saying that if your phone breaks due to negligence that it is not Samsungs fault. Now, if it is sitting on your desk and breaks just sitting there......yes, there is a problem. Falling from height and breaking on a hard surface is not normal "breakage"

Just sayin'

interesting

You press the home button to check the time when you wake up in the morning and the screen breaks in the tiny area just below the home button. Yeah that thin space that happens to be covered by a case. Just saying.
But this is clearly not Samsung's fault. Interesting...I called Samsung today and got the same attitude from them, so I'm wrong and you're spot on. Thanks!
Oh and if it's any consolation (even though I am clearly negligent with my 3 week old prized possession that I show off every chance I get) it was in my front pocket of my cotton shorts which I was wearing under a dress. The phone does not fit in my back pockets without sticking halfway out.
Cheers!

They informed me that I need to purchase the insurance and make a claim in 30 days.

Does anyone else find it ironic that the Verizon employees first accuse you of being dishonest and lying about not having dropped your phone - and then advise you to go commit insurance fraud?

I have never bought the insurance and never will because the insurance is a scam, imo... why spend $7 a month which would've amounted to spending a total of over $300 over the past 4 years I've owned a smart phone then pay an additional $100 if I need to use it. In the unlikely event that I am responsible for ruining my phone, I would rather use that $400 to buy a used phone of my choice rather than receive a used phone from insurance.

I buy insurance for a top tier phone - but only for the first year. Then I cancel it.

I figure the $70 to $80 in monthly fees for that first year, plus the $100 copayment, is still cheaper than buying a used phone (GS3 phones are currently $400 - $500 on Craigs List in my atea)

I was not defending Samsung nor was I making any intent that there is not an issue. Your case is rare and should be dealt with. Don't talk to VZW about the issue. Call Sammy themselves (get the retention department). There are always going to be occasional devices that have an issue. Just as in the case of automobiles.

All I was trying to point out is that people drop their device and expect it to come out unscathed. If you drop your beer, sometimes the glass breaks, sometimes it doesn't. It's the nature of the beast.

Sadly, I have to add my story to this thread. I purchased a Samsung Galaxy S3 from Verizon this afternoon around 1 pm. Everything worked fine. Personalized it, synced accounts, etc. Seven hours later, I picked up the phone and the screen was cracked. It appears to start near the home button and is cracked all the way up. No drop, in case that Verizon installed for me - not Otterbox. I did notice that the phone felt somewhat hot when I was entering contacts earlier. This definitely is a issue that Samsung needs to investigate. I'm going to call them now. I plan to speak with Verizon tomorrow. Even if they don't do anything, they definitely will know about the issue once I speak with them. I certainly don't have $200 bucks to spend on a phone that breaks like this.

that is so fake!!! who is going to leave their phone in a bag for 4 days? Unless you have like 2 phones laying around you aren't going to leave it in a bag for 4 days. Plus who scratches keys on their phone like she did?

Fake? There are several tests like this one out there. Many tech sites and reviewers do things like this to devices all the time. They're given the devices and make their money off providing these kinds of tests and reviews. They're doing things that normal people don't do in order to prove how durable/not durable the devices are.

As far as the key part.. its like the knife test I've seen on tests for numerous other devices... they don't really try IMHO... at least that's how it appears to me.. so its not just the test for the s3..

Honestly, I don't know why they don't just scratch the hell out of the screen and be honest...

There are scratches all over the screens of the display models at our local vzw stores... obviously there from people trying the key test...

they don't try to drop it on it's screen. They always drop it on it's back.Plus like I said who leaves their phone to dry for 4 days? Alot of people use it within the day especially if it is their ONLY phone.
