Galaxy SII Announcement Coming August 29? We hope so!

The only way I would consider the GS2 is if it is 4G LTE. Other then that The Bionic will be my choice. I hope that both is a world phone so I can ditch my other BB completely..

Shortly after it was announced a few weeks ago that the GS2 was coming to U.S I read a thread that said Sprint had passed FCC approval with their 4G radio for the GS2. Just yesterday I read that AT&T did the same. Sorry, too lazy to search for links. To think Verizon wouldn't up this to 4G would be the dumbest move ever! Hopefully we'll get the news on that soon!
I too am more excited about this than the Bionic. Nexus Prime might be worth the wait if we ever get anything more on it. Aug 29 will be a big day! I'm booking my ticket to New York!

And it doesn't downgrade to the Tegra 2. Otherwise I will continue waiting. I was excited about the Bionic (back in November when it was the Etna) but 10 months later with underwhelming specs and the pentile screen (I am very picky about picture quality in all screens), its a no go from me.

I'm sorry but I think you guys are missunderstanding this announcement. don't jump the gun we've heard so little from this I hardly believe that august 29th is going to be a launch/release date. sorry I just don't think were gonna see it in 2 weeks.

get your hopes up if you want but don't call it a slap in motorolas face until it actually comes out...

what's underwhelming about the droid bionic other then the pentile screen? 1 gb of ram? screen size? 1gb dual core processor?

hey jester you can have your awesome screen and 2 hours of battery usage. I'm okay with a pentile if it gets me 16+ hours of usage

Jester: Wasn't the big problem with the Etna Bionic that the Tegra didn't play nice with LTE? If the SGS2 is LTE then hopefully that means not Tegra - hope the Exynos processor is in this thing when it comes to VZW.

Preach: I hear you about the world phone. If Bionic is a world phone and SGS2 isn't, then Bionic it is for me. I suspect neither will be but I hope I'm wrong. I was also a BB Storm 1 user who had to ditch for a used X on Ebay. Made life worth living again.

Another factor is dev support. Both these phones are so talked about that I can't imagine the dev community not getting behind them quickly. Getting root on these phones shortly after release is important to me as well.

If the big news is coming 29 Aug I think there will be announcements for Sprint and AT&T since those iterations of the SGS2 have been in the works for a while and at least afaik, the Sprint version has cleared the FCC. VZW will be released probably "at a later date." Again, hope I'm wrong on this!

From what I understand the Vigor is rumored with a 4.3 inch 720p HD display. If it were likely to come out within a few weeks of the Bionic I would be tempted to wait, but my heart is still with the device I have been following for 6 months now.
It appears the Bionic has the same pentile screen as the X2, except that it will look even worse because of the bigger screen size, This might be a deal breaker for the bionic.

I had to upgrade one of my phones and went with the D3 as opposed to the X2 because it has a smaller screen and the pentile is not as much of an issue as in the larger X2, although it is still annoying in some areas, for example if you have a solid color that goes from a darker to a lighter shade (like a sky background) it displays it in strips of different tones instead of displaying a smooth transition. I can live with it but it really seems sub-par for a flagship phone.

actually I'm pretty sure that it's the same size 4.3 in..... if it's 4.5 it's not gonna make a big difference. you take your sweet screen and 2 hours of battery life I'll take this pentile with 16.

I'm betting 3 to 6 months minimum for the s g 2 from this august date

I was actually somewhat interested in the Vigor, I just haven't done the research on it. Will it have as fancy a screen as the Galaxy SII? Also I know nothing about the Nexus Prime, time to do my research~

The Vigor is said to have a 720x1280 screen :)

Exynos Dual Core Chip is much better then Tegra2 Chip. But the GS2 coming to the States is said to have Tegra2. So Europe's version of the GS2 might perform slightly better and faster then it's U.S counter part. Now about the Bionic I am still excited about is I think it will stand up against the GS2 as well. The only thing that makes the GS2 better in my opinion is the screen.. What will make the GS2 bad is No LTE and slow updates like the Fascinate. Although I am interested in the GS2. I will really have to think hard about getting it because of the update situation. Pentile Screen is not a problem to me.

hey donrico I said OTHER than the pentile screen. sheesh idiots

Well I was going to respond to you, but then you made this quote about someone. If you can't discuss without reverting to name calling then I really don't think you deserve a decent answer.

Creaky, you are correct. They were having a lot of issues with the LTE and original Etna. I believe it had to do with the dual core processor as well which is why they went away from the Tegra (don't quote me on that though).
But regarding the dev support you are correct. I have a feeling you are going to get a lot of dev support on these phones, especially the Bionic if it hits before the gs2 which I suspect it will. I do like the fact that Samsung is willing to allow people to play with their phones: http://www.droid-life.com/2011/06/06/samsung-becoming-easier-to-like-gives-cyanogenmod-dev-a-galaxy-s-ii/

onerico: Well put. I'm fine with my phone right now, and there are a few things that I can't settle with going into a new one, and that's the screen. Seems like an obvious 'miss' when developing a flagship phone.

Preach, stop raining on my parade, lol. I really don't want the Tegra 2. As you said its an inferior chip. I would be fine with the OMAP as well. Be thankful the screen doesn't bother you. Its one of things that once I see, I can't unsee.
