Get Unstuck from ICS Leak 200 (AKA Upgrading from 200 to 206) INSTRUCTIONS

The root method is kinda weird. I did it the first time and after it rebooted I did not see Superuser in the app drawer. So I repeated this process a few times with the same result. Then I looked at the thread in XDA and some of the guys mentioned they downloaded SU from the market, so I did that and installed it. Now I have root.

Someone else mentioned they downloaded Busybox too but I didn't bother since downloading SU was sufficient to get root.

It works.

This information should not be kept hidden; Motorola will fix the vulnerability and then someone else will find another one for the next update. Whether a new rooting technique is discovered and shared or discovered and kept a secret, the only difference it makes is the pointless frustration in the mean time.

I can't think of any reason that those who are stuck unable to use their device to its full potential should have to wait for a way to obtain root permissions if a method is available, strictly for the sake of preserving the effectiveness of that technique which will likely be rendered ineffective by the next update anyway.

Fair enough. I guess I'm stuck in my D2 mentality of no one really doing anything with it anymore. Our device is still new and I'm sure someone will always find a way around anything Motorola or Verizon comes up with. That's why I'm not really scared to try leaks.

On .208 with root...animations and transitions are smoother, it seems. Reloading all my apps with TiBu right now.

I thought I had hosed my phone because when I got done, I'm stuck roaming...but apparently VZW is down in Northern FL; called a store and there's something like, 60 towers down right now. It's affecting Sprint/Metro/Boost as well, apparently.

Forgive me since I'm still fairly new to this but...

I've gone from .215 to .219 and .219 to .206. But I used RSDLite for that. How would I fastboot the 208 file using the unstick method?

I understand that I'm installing as much of the .219 as possible and then replacing the 206 file with the 208 file (which I just downloaded). But where do I put this 208 img file and how do I fastboot it? I can't seem to find the boot206 file anywhere.

Following the instructions in the first post. The only difference is that you have to download the 208 kernel. Unzip the Unstuck ICS zip folder. Inside is another folder called "files". What you have to do is rename the 208 kernel file to "boot206" and place it in the "files" folder to replace the existing boot206 file. Of course you also have to download and place in the sd-ext the full 208 leak file. After downloading it you have to unzip it and you must copy Blur_Version.6.13.219.XT894.Verizon.en.US.zip to your external sd card.

When you get to the step where you're supposed to flash the kernel it will give you the choice to flash 206 or 219. Choose 206 and it will use the 208 kernel that you put in the "files" folder.

Well, that might be my problem then. The OP doesn't have the right link for the Unstick ICS tool. :)

Here are the new instructions for 208:

1. Download:

a. Rarz Utility https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22291559/droid4/DroidRAZRUtility1.6_for_droid_4.7z
b. Unstick Utility https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22291559/droid4/unstuck
c. 208 Update https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B5YH1w-_H3yCNDRHLXY4RkRaNVU
d. 208 Kernel https://www.box.com/s/0b8f9590b2611ae748c6

2. Unzip Razr Utility, Unstick Utility, and the 208 Update.

3. Copy Blur_Version.6.13.219.XT894.Verizon.en.US.zip to your external SD card.

4. Rename the 208 Kernel (boot208d4.img) to boot206.img and place it in the "files" folder of the Unstuck ICS folder which you unzipped.

5. Open the Droid Razr (D4)Utility

6. Turn your phone off, & then turn it back on holding VOL DWN and PWR to boot into AP Fastboot

7. Select Fastboot to .181 (.219) in the Utility & follow the onscreen directions. You will see a lot of Fail messages and it will take around 10 minutes to complete.

You are now on what we coined "Psuedo-.181" - some weird hybrid of GB and ICS files. Your phone will not boot at this point.

8. Go back into AP fastboot (see step 6)

9. Open the unstick ICS tool

10. Choose the 206 kernel (it will really be 208 since you replaced it in step 4).

11. Let it install, and reboot.

12. Turn your phone off, and Hold VOL DOWN + VOL UP + PWR, then use VOL DWN to go to "Recovery" and VOL UP to select it

13. You will get the Android with a red exclamation point. Press VOL DWN + VOL UP to bring up the menu.

14. Navigate to "Apply update from external SD"

15. Select the Blur_Version.6.13.219.XT894.Verizon.en.US.zip file you placed on your external SD card.

*IF IT FAILS THE FIRST TIME, TRY THIS PARAGRAPH AGAIN*

Now you're on 208. To root:

16. Download http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1126925&d=1339581696

17. Unzip it.

18. Connect your phone to the computer.

19. Make sure you have USB Debugging and the phone is in Camera mode, not mass storage device.

20. Run rootscript.bat.

21. Reboot.

22. Download the Superuser apk from the market and install it.

Now you have rooted ICS!

This step took me one minute. Something must be wrong...

The link to the Razr utility I provided has 219 in it already, that's why it's a one gig file. The process went quickly for the first minute and kinda hangs for a bit and then resumes.
