Gingerbread battery drain

After GB, I noticed the poor battery life being talked about.
I noticed in setting s that the screen time out had been changed to 15 minutes.

I changed it to two minutes and battery life increased dramatically

Good news! I finally had time to factory reset my phone, and it's now running flawlessly! Even better than when I had Froyo.

Re-installed GoLauncher and have seen no lag or battery change either, and no black screen when I use Google Music.

Thanks for the help all

This phone's battery life is acceptable now, but only with JuiceDefender.

I don't know about screwing up the phone, but it is a pointless app. All it does is disable everything (wifi, gps, data, etc) to save battery life.
This is pointless, as it can all be controlled with a simple widget (Power Control or a 3rd party app/widget). Instead, people install Juice Defender which is constanly running using CPU and battery life.

The newer version(s) of juice defender appear to have the ability to periodically enable background data to receive notifications, mail, etc.
Free version which I use allows "windows" spaced 15min or 30min apart. The paid version allows from 5min to 2hours.

My phone is not practically useable without JuiceDefender.
Google Android should incorporate this battery saving technique into their OS, as an option.
I don't want to have to manually turn on/off WiFi, background data, etc. to save battery.

I had the same issues. I did a factory reset and my battery life returned.

I know how you feel about rooting, but if you were to get the rooted .596 version, you could use battery saving mods like undervolting and adjbrightness, which are very safe.

Thanks.
I expect the phone to be able to do some basic things without the need for a hack/root, and if I had just the same battery life as I did in Froyo, I'd be a happy camper now. (edit: Actually, I have better battery life now with JuiceDefender than I did under Froyo without it, at the expense of not having data connectivity periodically.) And I have already done a factory data reset. It fixed some issues.

Regarding undervolting...
"Reducing the voltage supplied to the CPU below the manufacturer's recommended minimum setting can result in system instability."

Because when things go wrong, everyone tries to blame poor old Motorola :(

We really need to ask ourselves if we think the Electrical Engineers at Texas Instruments didn't know what they were doing when they designed the OMAP processor's safe minimum voltage, for us to try to push/risk it further by undervolting.
