Gingerbread battery drain

mine increased signifiently after i drained the battery a few times untill the phone turned off then i left the phone off and charged it

I don't see a drop in battery usage with the different color scheme at all. In fact, I believe I am able to go much longer on a charge than I had been on Froyo. Much of the improvement has been using the Sleep Mode at night instead of turning the phone completely off. Before my last recharge, I went 3 days and 15 hours before hitting 20%. Granted that was not 3 days of full use like some people do. Still that's very good.

Good news! As an update to my comments about battery drain, I had success with pulling the micro SD card and running the Factory Data Reset on the Droid X! Now battery life is normal, (what it was with Froyo) and again a happy X user! Loading apps again (slowly) and minding the battery usage. The reset is a pain but was worth it in battery life for me.

Someone mentioned that having blank clean phones at Motorola is what they are testing on and starting there might help.... Yeah!

did u leave the sd card out when u reset the phone?

Yessir. Kept the card out after backing up contacts to the SD card, then reset. Go through the prompts (skip or fill information) and get to the home screen, then power off and add the SD card. If you don't mind dinking around with downloading apps again, and customizing your look again, it worked for me. dancedroid

Was getting no more than 6 hours per charge.... now at 14 hours today with moderate use and am sitting at 60% battery!!!

Pain in the @ss!!

Not only did the update destroy my battery life, but now my X sometime will just reboot on its own when i am in the middle of using it! The navigator freezes up and i can't even force close it. have to wait for it to do it on its own, by rebooting out of the blue! emails are not coming through for one of my accounts. the others i have to go in and refresh manually. i absolutely hate my phone now and can't wait till november when i can upgrade to something else!! i guess i should try like the above and go back to factory settings and try all over but what a pain for the "update"...

anyone else have problems with phone shutting down?

You just need to factory reset. All of your apps and contacts will automatically re-sync, so it's not that big of a deal.

After a factory reset, my apps did not auto reinstall, and app data that was supposed to be backed up at Google was not restorable.
Most contacts were restored, except for 1 or 2. I had to reinstall my important apps manually, and lost all configurations.

Better battery life now may be due to having much less apps on my DroidX...

If they don't sync, you can go to market.android.com and install them that way. It will have a list of all the apps you've installed.

Thanks for the url.
I had over 200 apps installed pre-factory reset. Right now, only the apps I installed after factory reset show up there :(

ok here goes....contacts backed up to sd card. phone off and card out now...let's see how this goes. never reset before!

Your don't need to remove your sd card.

There is a check box during the factory data reset procedure that gives you the option of erasing the SD card.
Be very careful with that check box setting!

No problems after the factory reset except some force close app issues randomly, no ill effect.... I'll assume these are just bugs in GB for now. And yes the factory reset is a PITA but if it gets me back to my stability in Froyo, it's worth going to the Market and re-downloading the things I need. I can see when re-installing apps that I just did not need them anymore anyway, so it works out to be a better build in the long run.

The SD card out was just a precaution for me during the re-install.

Sorry you hate your phone, it's really a great device with lack of directions and warnings on this update. As with any company anymore, they really just don't care if the product launch is ready for everyone, <we> are the R&D team in the field and finding out how to solve things here just helps the developer at our expense. How can we ban Motorola from this forum? :)

Im not rooted.

Just updated to 2.3.3 now I have many issues;
Battery drain
Redraw
Freezing
Sms issues.

Any way to.undo the update?
