Google Maps w/ Multi-Touch Ported to DROID

On a non-rooted phone:

The zooming works good.
In Car Dock mode the maps do not zoom at all. It must be pulling in the original Maps app

I have two Maps icons in the tray...as expected just like with the Gallery.

In settings/manage applications I can't change the default map app.
One with a version number of 3318
The other with a version number of 3413. This second one is also larger.
Both apps have a grayed out button to clear defaults.
Version 3.31 is listed in the market so that's the one I'm uninstalling.
Now when I open one of the Map icons I can see it is version 3.2.1 which must be the default original app that I can't uninstall, not being on a rooted phone.

navigation:
In the new map I held down until an address was loaded into a cartoon bubble
I selected the address and chose Navigate.
It gave me an option of com.google.android.apps.maps or com.google.android.apps.m4ps

The m4ps option is the new navigation screen that is dark at night and easier on the eyes.

I don't know how to default the map, it still won't pinch to zoom in navigation/car dock mode.

There is only one Map app listed in Manage Applications now.
Tried a reboot...its been a couple of weeks.

Back to the Market and updated maps again so I now have two in Manage Apps again.

So, for me, I can click the maps icon and use the new multitouch maps and the new navigation screen but I can't get to them from the Car Home icon because it probably directly calls the other apps. I bet the physical car dock does the same thing.

I've noticed a problem using the new nav app. On the top, where it's supposed to say the current road that you're on, it says "Unnamed Roads." Anyone else notice this yet?

When do we get the damn multitouch browser - jeez.... :icon_evil:

grab a custom rom from the hacks sectino

btw, i am dissapointed with pinch gesture. what i really want to do is lay my thumb down and then slide my index finger. when i do this the thumb press pulls up the address there. on the bright side the gesture works in this fashion on the browser :)

Exceeded Bandwidth...

Anyone have the APK for the multi-touch map handy? It appears as though droid life has exceeded their bandwidth and I can't get either download link to work...:icon_eek:
