Google Releasing DIY "App Inventor" - App Creation Tool

Looks like Google will be granting access over the coming weeks. They updated their website, it says it right under where you click to request access.

Thanks everyone for clarifying what I too was seeing. No problem waiting. I think the lack of discussion is related to many here worrying about the market kinda cooling the atmosphere. Being a small business owner, my gears have been spinning on this since the announcement here in news. I think I can find some usefulness besides an app to use the droid vibration and orientation sensor to walk the Droid around the room, terrorizing the pooches:) Now vibrating over to the fridge for cold beverages, perhaps....................

Another interested future developer here! I have been tempted to learn the programming languages needed to build an Android app. I graduated with my CIS degree 6 years ago and haven't done ANY programming since. Hated it. Even though the possibilities are endless for creating great programs from huge amounts of code, it's not for me. I'm more of an artist that knows computers and technology. Let's see what I can create!

this is so epic, i can not wait until i get an invite to use this app. just another reason why android is better than iphone.

well it states on the site that ....

this is a app builder & once the person or group is done building there app that is it

you still have to sign up on the android market as a developer & pay the 25$ fee so it really will reduce that spam apps on the market

A $25 one time fee isn't too bad. Personally, I won't be submitting anything to the market place unless I think its not only useful, but not complete garbage. O hope everyone else thinks that way.

the fact that people can post garbage on the marketplace seems to be the only concern, but its not like you will come across the garbage....that's why there is a rating system and a search feature, and if people want to pay 25 dollars to post crap, then let them, they will only be funding the epicness that is google

Wow. has this been done before?
Yes. Microsoft. Visual Basic.

It's going to be an awesome way to flood the Android market even further with crapware.

I don't get comments like these.

1] Do you just randomly peruse the market looking for things everyday and think "Mannn all this crapware!!!"
2] or do you hear about, read about or check the Top Downloads section of the market to find your apps?

You act as if it's difficult to find out what apps are good, or that the navigation of the market is so difficult that it takes weeks to find the app you're looking for. There is a TON of crapware on the market now. I rarely see it, because I don't just peruse the Android market for hours hoping for a diamond in the rough app. When App Inventor comes out there will be a ton more crappy apps and I don't plan on sifting through those either. If you want to find crappy apps, you will....if you don't, you won't. Simple as that.

Just so you know, if no one ever looked through the "Just In" section, you'd NEVER find a good app. Ratings only help when all the apps get rated. If someone puts out an awesome app, but no one ever goes thru the "Just In" section of the Market, it'll never get rated high enough to make it to the Top apps.
