I know that it's free if you can find someone with an invite or are patient. However, with all of the money spent on apps around here, I found the $1.48 I paid on ebay for instant gratification was easily worth it.

agreed! I decided to bite the bullet and pay the $1.50. Got invited and set up in about 15 minutes

Why would you want to do so in preference to the Google Voice app?

If you point your browser to m.google.com/voice from your Droid, you'll get a big button that will take you to the GV app.
