Gorilla Gadgets 3500mAh Extended Battery

I was under the impression that if you have a constant wifi connection available, then keeping your wifi on will save battery, otherwise keep wifi off.

@terrets, my BL Pro was doing the same thing yours is doing - for instance, BL Pro saying 1% left when stock says 30%, etc. Obviously BL Pro was reading it incorrectly, and at least it seemed as though the stock meter was reading it correctly. I attributed this to BL Pro not being calibrated correctly. I'm assuming you also have the GG 3500 mAh battery. Is your battery skinned with a blue picture coating, or is it the older black/white text style?

Now I'm on my third discharging cycle. BL Pro says 52% remaining, 3919 MV. System info saying 70% battery remaining and 8 hrs since unplugged. This is with practically no use on my phone today - system idle is the single greatest usage of power at 30%.

Can't say for sure if it makes a differance but I never turn off wifi and it doesn't seem to drain my battery. I have had it on for the past month before that I used 3g because I thought it used less battery.

If you're in range of a wifi network that you can access, it uses WAY less battery than 3g. If you're NOT, then leaving your wifi on means that it will be polling constantly for a new network, which uses considerably MORE battery. Just FYI.

@satoru - keeping wifi on while not connected to wifi -will- drain your battery because your phone will constantly look for available wifi connections = using power

So..... small update, pretty much the new battery they sent me is 1000% better than the old battery. Currently sitting at 3659 mV (30% remaining), it's still going on its first full charge at 1 day 12 hours unplugged. This includes two 30 minute phone calls, playing angry birds, some texts / emails / sync turned on, taking / uploading a dozen photos, updating all of my apps, some internet browsing, using a live wallpaper, etc. I'm convinced there was something very wrong with the other battery they sent me.

Currently very happy and can't wait to see what battery life is like after the 2nd and 3rd charge! I'm actually *HAPPY* that the system is reading the battery incorrectly (5% remaining) and red LED indicator flashing because that means the battery is actually working.

Now I just hope they don't charge me for the 2nd battery... I already have to pay shipping back to them.

Wow..Nice man! My battery just shipped this morning and hopefully get it tomorrow since GorillaGadget is from Southern Cali and I'm in Northern Cali. I hope my battery is not a defect like what happen to yours and sure hope my battery will last as long as yours lol.

When I get the battery, just put it on but DON'T charge it till I fully kill it the first time?

@niceguys, thanks for the clarification, I agree. I meant that if you keep WIFI on, but you're out traveling/driving and not actually connecting to any wifi networks, you will waste battery.

@locoej, on the gorilla gadgets website, to calibrate the battery, it says you're supposed to first fully charge new batteries (leaving it on the charger an extra 3-4 hours) then fully discharge while running Battery Left Pro. Repeat 3-4x.

Hmm..Funny thing is, I actually deleted Battery Left Pro because I heard any widgets on Homescreen will kill your battery, and I thought it was, so I deleted lol. Do I need to calibrate it? I was just going to go off "Battery Manager" in settings, once that gets to 5%, then I will probably have 4-5 hours left until battery dies correct? That's what eveyone says "Seeing the red light at 5% then they have like 4-5 hours left till battery dies using Gorilla Gadget"? Or I am incorrect?

If you want an accurate reading of your battery, then yes, you need BL Pro. If you don't care, you can estimate 5-6 hours left after the battery hits 5%.

Personally, my battery manager has been stuck at 5% for the past 6-7 hours, and the mV reading is at 3560 mV. I think it's nice to know exactly how much battery life is left, in case I need to conserve the battery for something important. And now that the battery is lasting so long, I'm willing to let a few apps take up more power (live wallpaper, battery meter, widgets).

Wow man 6-7 hours!? That's awesome! That's like another half a day of battery! I hope mine does that :icon_ banana:

Thanks for the information man! Maybe I will download BL Pro again lol. Do I have to have BL Pro as a Widget or was there a way to just open it through Settings? I can't remember.

This is considered a family friendly site, you're probably going to need to take down your screenshots with that background. Just thought i'd give you a heads up.

Whats wrong with his wallpaper? An alien girl touching herself and her swirly boobs are def ok in my book.

Got my gorilla battery yesterday, charged it up overnight. Been on constant for 3+ hours surfing the news and blogging. Got my battery in 5 days. Bent the tabs to match the original cover. Fits tight. Have 70% left. Will let it run down a few times before I give a full report.! Thanks for the tip.

Looking forward for your updates! So you have to bend the tabs in order for the battery to fit? I hope I can get the battery in lol.

Some folks were having a hard time with the new battery cover not fitting properly. By matching the tabs on the new cover with the old ones you should have no problem.

13.5 hours of heavy usage showing 3.697 volts. The Lithium Ion batteries have a tendency to remain at a voltage over a longer period of time before dropping off. I'm going to continue running until it get down to 3.5 volts before I take it back to charge.

If you put the clips in the correct place, push down so the cover is locked into place, then apply pressure upward on the bottom / center edge of the cover, the cover slides into place very easily. Not sure if I explained that right, try it out.

Day 1 I got at least 40 hours of charge out of the battery with average use (text, internet, phone, some games, etc).
Day 2 I got maybe... 25-30 hours of charge out of the battery, but I played a looot of games (zelda: a link to the past on SNESoid, not sure if that drains more battery than normal). The phone did get really hot.
Day 3 unplugged 6 hours so far, 80% left.

Just got my GG battery about 2 hours ago, and I am letting it charge right now. I hope I can do +25 hours without charge.

I took some pictures for you guys/girls. I am loving the grip on my phone now! Yeah kind of bulky but shooooot...I can hold it better, and when I reach for it in my pocket, much easier to grab!

Just a little update for you all. I had my Gorilla Gadget fully charged Wednesday at 9pm and now it's Friday 12am, so that's a total of 27 hours. About 2 hours ago the 5% red light indicator came on. So I am going to see how long it will last like this. I am going to bed soon, so I don't know if it will die during the night or still be alive for a couple more hours once I wake up in the morning.

Btw, I know it's kind of bulky, but love how I can grip it way better. It's very light also, can't even tell the difference from stock battery. I recommend this to all Android users.

------UPDATE-------

Ok, here's the latest concerning my 3500 mAh battery I got from ebay. First off, I immediately recognized the new battery door is much cheaper quality that the stock door (duh....it was 20 bucks). One of the small legs was broken from the inside edge of the door. It appears the legs are just glued into place and not a one piece design like stock. So to all the others, don't be surprised at the door quality. Luckily the ebay seller I bought from is super cool and he's sending me another door no problem. Also, the door does slip down loose every once and a while. Might be due to the bad leg...will wait for the new door and see if it gets better. ...

Now, on to the battery itself. I've had the battery for two days now, and managed to finish the calibration last night. The battery has had one full drain and full charge overnight. According to battery left, I am running at about 18h:36m battery life fully calibrated. This is under absolutley normal operating conditions, I have not been using my phone excessively at all (eg..wifi, gps, music, browser, apps, calls, etc.) I am not seeing the usage stats that blu posted earlier in the thread. I was expecting much more out of the battery than a days usage...but I cannot be to disappointed since I was only seeing about 7-8 hours life out of the stock battery. I can say I have effectively doubled my battery life with the 3500 batt.

I also noticed something else very interesting. Battery left is estimating my battery life much lower than my system is....somewhere in the neighborhood of 13%-20%. For example, right at this moment, BL is estimating my battery at 31% while my stock android system says 50% battery. Is anyone else having this issue? I have heard of the opposite occuring earlier in the thread, where the system estimates low but BL says much higher. If this keeps ocurring, I won't really need battery left on my phone since it is reading incorrect. Keep in mind it is fully calibrated.

Overall, I am satisfied with the battery. It was only 20 bucks with free shipping and the seller was easy to work with. I was hoping for a couple of days of battery life, but I;ll sure settle for one day. It is much better than what I was getting with stock........

What ebay seller did you buy from?

27 hours... usually the 5% indicator light means there's at least 30% battery remaining, meaning you could be looking at ~35-40 hours of total uptime? Very nice. Did you install Battery Left Pro?

About the bulkiness... I'm glad you like it, but personally I don't like how it makes the phone look when the phone's sitting on the table, and I prefer the feel of the slimmer phone. Can't go wrong with the actual battery life though! I just got about 48 hours of charge (including some night hours, although I let my phone sync 24 hours a day).
