Hacking/tweaking 3G settings and the radio driver

I know it looks like it won't play with x64 but it does. I was able to do the second part on windows 7 x64 without issue. (Well it tossed some warnings anyway but worked.)

good stuff. can't wait to try it out.

So I finally tried this out tonight and although a little difficult for a beginner, I eventually figured it out. The directions were right on point. I had to download root explorer because none of the free file explorers would let me write to the local.prop file and save. Once done with both hacks I do believe my data speed has increased. I was getting max speeds of 1.5-1.7mbps before the hack and now I have seen as high as 2.6mbps. These tests have all been performed in the same location with the phone in the same exact spot. I will try again over the next few days at different times and report back my findings. Thanks for getting this out to the community!

Awesome to hear! Also the OP has been updated with a link to download radiocomm for those who cant find it. tested the download right from my phone lol

So will wiping data and all that good stuff undo any of this?

I did the first part, no problem. The second part all seemed to be working fine, until I went to actually send the data to the phone. The top text box did not turn green, it turned red:

STELEM ==>FAILED
Driver answer ==> -256
Error Description ==> PST: Handle to device is invalid - no device present
Time to execute command: 0 seconds.
Command timeout set to : 15 seconds.

Now I admit I have had driver installation problems with the phone, but I have been able to make the PC recognize the phone by installing the drivers for EasyTether. Using these I have had full access to the phone via adb, so the phone and PC are communicating well. Also, the light in RadioComm turned green, indicating a radio was detected.

Any help out there?

Well I have now done both hacks to 2 D2G's with no problems. On the second one I did get the red fail notification. All I did was unplug my droid, restart my phone, restart radiocomm, follow all instructions exactly and it worked fine. Don't know what really happened but it definitely passed on the second time. Hope this helps.

Ok so I installed a theme and went to build-prop to see if it effected anything and it didn't but what I did notice is the first part in the OP has some of the stuff already in the stock build-prop. Thinking it will read stock values first I deleted the ones u told me to put at bottom and change the values that were already there from stock. There were 2 that where not in the build-prop so I put them under the ones that were there from stock. It seems to be better but not to sure anyone want to take a look into this and see what you think.
Hope u can understand what im saying since im typing this in a hurry.

EDIT: im on fenom rom so he may have added some of the tweeks in his rom.

any phone/rom/

i was interested in apply this edit on my cm 7.0.3 og droid but i couldn't find local.prop i looked in /data and i also hooked up my phone to my computer and did a search that way and i couldn't find it either.... should i even try to do the second part of the hack?

I wouldn't do it since this is for droid 2 global. U should go to og droid section to ask about build-prop tweaks. I would also beleave that CM would have already did all the adjustments to the build-prop to make og droid better.

I already have a hack in my build.prop that reads as follows:
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.hsupa.category=5
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1

This is the 3G speed increase hack that comes in the Fenom ROM 0.9.6
For what I've seen in your comments, your 3G speed hack has different parameters and a few more lines of code and after reading some of the comments from the people that tried it, it makes the GSM signal a lot stronger. (The D2G has issues of weak GSM signal when using a foreign sim card outside the US). Well, this seems to fix this problem.
Can I just add your hack at the bottom of my Fenom build.prop along with the other 3G hack or will they conflict? What should I do? Should i erase the other one first?
Thank you.

I recently ran the nitrascript.exe. It was supposed to do the same thing. How does this compare with that hack? Thanks for the thread by the way

Hi my name is Domenic and im a DroidForums addict

as far as adding these values to Fenom, it should be perfectly fine to just add the lines you dont have already (i believe they are the htcmaskw1.bitmask and htcmaskw1 lines)

I could not get nitriscript to successfully work for my phone so i waited and looked around til I found what was needed to do it manually.

and so this basically 'fixes' the gsm radio weakness problem, includes the droid standard 3G speed tweaks, and radiocomm provides a hardware/driver level unthrottle.

Ok, so I see that in Fenom, right after the 3G Speed hack, there are other additional build properties (hacks). The one that comes right after the 3G Speed hack is ro.kernel.android... So, do I add these lines of code (htcmaskw1.bitmask, htcmaskw1 and hsupa lines) right before the kernel.android without any empty line in between?

Apart from this question related to the addition of the 3 last lines, I've seen that your parameters are different to the ones on the 3G Speed hack that comes on Fenom (and that was taken from another thread). These parameters worked ok for me in terms of internet speed but I don't know if maybe yours provide a better gsm radio strenght in terms of signal stability.
This is the comparison:

Fenom lines and parameters:

ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.hsxpa=2
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=8
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.hsupa.category=5
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1

Your lines and parameters (the ones on this thread from Zeppelinrox):
ro.ril.hsxpa=3
ro.ril.gprsclass=12
ro.ril.hep=1
ro.ril.enable.dtm=1
ro.ril.hsdpa.category=28
ro.ril.enable.a53=1
ro.ril.enable.3g.prefix=1
ro.ril.htcmaskw1.bitmask=4294967295
ro.ril.htcmaskw1=14449
ro.ril.hsupa.category=9

As you can see the first 7 lines have different parameters. Are these better in terms of making the signal more stable and consistent? Should I change them?
Thank you.

actually, it just looks like the lines are not in the same order. they are all the same in content, except for the hdspa and hsupa categories, plus the fenom lines have two more lines about the htcmaskw1.
