Happy 2nd Anniversary Droid One !!

When I first got my OG Droid (December 2009), I knew NOTHING about smartphones and had never even used one. I knew what the iPhone was but had never used one. The only reason I got the OG Droid is because my girlfriend at the time used to always brag about her phone (some crappy windows phone that actually looked awesome back then compared to my dumb phone) and I wanted something better than her. After being with AT&T for 10+ years, I had just become a new Verizon customer that December and I just decided to go with the best phone they had to offer at the time (OG Droid) so I could show my ex-gf up. When the phone finally arrived in the mail, it BLEW ME AWAY. Up to that point, I had only been using dumbphones and I had no idea how awesome smartphones are. I haven't looked back sense and can't believe that it took me so long to cross over into the smartphone world. Using smartphones has literally changed my life and I feel like everyone should own one. I just look at dumbphone owners in pity like "you just don't know what you're missing". But then again, I know people with smartphones that only use 10% of their capabilities.

First and last time I'll every get a phone first thing in the morning day of launch. But she's still kickin'....barely. I still marvel that this hardware and a bit of software make things like Sky Map possible! \o/:icon_ banana:

Got my OG Droid on day 1 at Best Buy and never looked back. I still carry it daily. It's rooted, overclocked and running a custom ROM. It's also still in mint condition. I'm planning on upgrading to the Galaxy Nexus, but my OG Droid will still get constant use as a multimedia device.

That reminds me of when I got mine, which was early Dec 09, and the first night I couldn't sleep because the default mail setting was the "DROIDDDDD" sound and at the time had no idea what that setting was, kept waking me up, figured it was email, but after hearing it about 10 times I just stayed up and played with it :)

Yeah. Took me a while to figure out half the stuff it could do.

I still have the DROID sound as my notification. On every ROM and even Bionic. Cliche, I know. But I love it. :)

The D1 was the first smartphone I ever had. Prior to that I always just took whatever free upgrade phone Verizon would give me. The only reason I even got the D1 is because my parents didn't know what to get me for my birthday and knew I was planning to get a new iPod touch (for the apps and whatnot), so they asked if I wanted this new phone instead. Ever since I got the phone I have been addicted. I read multiple blogs and forums every day (this one included!) to stay up to date with phone-tech news. I have rooted and overclocked my phone. I love my phone so much, but at the same time I have had it for almost 2 years and want more now. I am looking forward to the release of the GNexus. I will definitely keep the D1 as a fun toy.

Happy Anniversary D1!

I'll try to keep this short. ')

Still using my Droid from a day after release. DF's has been a wonderful resource of info. Before that it was HowardForums and Seem Edits, omg that was some work. Don't know that I could of ever got a handle on it if it weren't for Mark Venture's help with his detailed tutorials that just about any one could follow. V710, E815, and finally V9 which was an old fav for sure with instant access to local Houston Traffic map free of charge. Wow what memories.

Grabbed an X about 6 months ago and really like it but have yet to switch completely over from my Droid. Just hard to give it up. ')
Knock on wood, but I have yet to have any trouble with it beside the fact that the camera never performed well in lo-light conditions.

I have yet to stop by VZW to see the Razor but so far from what I have read it looks really nice in my opinion.

Oh ya, last few months when stopping by DF's I would see reference to the OG Droid and always figured it was just another model that I hadn't heard of. lol As was mentioned Droid Droid1 or even D1 at least lets others know which cell is being referred to.

And in closing, Happy 2nd BirthDay Droid, you rock.. :icon_ rocker:

As much as I'm ready for a new phone with a dual-core processor and more RAM, I know I'm going be a little sad the day I put down my D1. This thing has been my GPS, calculator, translator, gaming device, music player, alarm clock, television, level, unit converter, flashlight, and mobile hotspot for what seems like forever. I'm going to miss it, as this phone has been much more to me than a phone to me. Happy Anniversary, A855!!

Happy Birthday D1

I got mine a week or 2 after launch. I fell in love with it even beofre i was able to use it and i still use it as of today. its never given me any problems at all. ive had a few replacements from my own mistakes (dropping the phone or once being stolen) I really like the phones that came out after the D1, but its something about it that i cant part from it. when i get a new phone, i will most likely get a D2, D3, or D4. I will always keep my D1 and use it for other things. The D1 will live on forever.

Got mine in Dec 09 as I was skeptical of the new os and new to smart phones in general. Friends had iphones but i couldn't leave Verizon and take a chance on At&T with their poor call quality.

So the D1 came home with me and it has been a great piece of hardware. My first one froze up Oct of 2010 and VZ gave me a refurb and I've been equally happy with it since last year.

Looking forward to the GNex, but to be honest I love the size of the D1, it fits into the "5th pocket" on my jeans so I dont have to have that holster or feel it banging against my leg in the pocket.

I know the Gnex will be bigger and better but the D1 isn't going anywhere. It'll be ready and waiting to come out of retirement if I need it.

Happy Ann'y Little Guy and thanks for doing it all!

It was calling your name, wanting your attention.

;)

I got my Droid about two months after launch. Had not had a cell phone since 2001. Thing was (and still is, to a point) a beast. It has not left my hand or pocket since I got it. Got my first scratch on the screen about two months ago, which is amazing, considering what my baby has been through. Random spills, drops, kids . . . The casing is beat up. Dings around the glass edge. Battery case has silver around the edges . . .

But she keeps on going. Finally got the nerve to root/ROM about 6 months ago. Breathed new life into my Droid.

Will be hard to give her up, but the Nexus is calling me. I can only hope that the Nexus will be as reliable as the Droid.

I was hoping my Treo 700W would last until the Droid was available. Alas, it died about 10 days before the Droid launch and I need a mobile phone for business. I ended up getting the HTC Imagio. The Imagio had 2 major flaws, 1) it was not up-gradable from Win Mobile 6.5 and 2) the touchscreen was awful.

I 'traded' in the Imagio for the Droid on the release day. Yes, It cost me $35.00, but that $35.00 was well worth it!

Fantastic thread!! With all of the talk and excitement about the new phones, it's nice to pay homage to the OG!

I am one of the few people on the planet that had never had a personal cell phone (the job made me carry one when I travelled). It just so happened that my total lack of directional skills and a dead MP3 player had me on the technology hunt. I was actually searching for two separate devices. One night, the stars were aligned and I happened upon a commercial for the Droid. I jumped online and looked it up on VZ Wireless. Then I stumbled upon this forum. This was the device I was looking for. I might use twenty minutes per month of phone time but I use this sweet little baby for practically everything else. I will be upgrading to the Nexus but I will always be a proud owner of the OG Droid.

Now, if they could just create a Droid phone that has a spot for me to carry my driver's license, my debit card and some lip gloss, I could ditch my purse all together!

got mine on the 11th, still got it.. rom number, no clue haha. never a single issue with the phone. i have worn out the keyboard a few times, but new ones from china are 8$ haha. so i've just peeled them off and put on new ones. i've seen over 140* processor temps and all it does is reboot and back at it haha. never had a case on it, dropped 2 good times onto concrete and it still looks great for a 2 year old phone. like someone said, they just don't make them like this anymore. screen looks like brand new still. first phone i've ever owned that i can say that about.

waiting for the nexus like most, for smoother flash video/4g and a bigger screen but damn i'm going to miss having a real keyboard. that d4 would be sweet if it wasn't locked down and bloated up.

Two years later, about 5 phones later. Im back to it LOL

Droid>Some Tmobile one that lasted a week> HTC EVO> HTC Thunderbolt >G2X> Droid (lulz) things got a cracked screen running CM7 with a higher OS then any other phone and cracking out 1.2Ghz CPU.

This thing has done me solid, so much so that when I change phones its my GO TO phone each and every time.

Only thing I miss from my newer phones is the front facing camera. Video Chat is hard to do without it. but then I just tether it to my ASUS transformer. Once I get a little extra cash to buy the parts I plan to nurse my baby back to its true glory days.

Happy Anniversary! I may have cheated on ya, but I always came back! LOL
