Potential Location Fix

I had the same problem after the initial Froyo update on my Droid. I spent two days rebooting, wiping, resetting, reloading, etc... It was a nightmare. Nothing I tried could get my location services back. Finally, even though I do not ever turn WiFi on, I did the following...

Go to Settings -> Location & Security, and make sure that "Use wireless networks" is checked. It does not matter if the WiFi on your phone is actually turned on or not, just check this box.

Boom, that fixed everything. It's a long shot, but worth trying since it's so simple. I hope that fixes your problem.

I got it this morning. I've noticed my on screen keyboard is super sensitive and less accurate now. Kind of frusterating. Haven't noticed any other changes.

Got the update last night! I notice absolutely nothing new.... awesome! Upgrade is January 02, 2011 so I am sure something AWESOME will becoming out QTR 1 of 2011 anyhow!dancedroid

Yeah the Froyo started this mess. Most of the time the news and weather app says location not available, but I can clear the data and it will pull in my location. But after a couple of refreshes it reverts back to location unavailable. I've had that option checked since all this started months ago. I've called verizon and they have no idea what's going on. They tried replacing my phone, but I never let go of my original since the others were in such aweful condition and mine was cosmetically perfect. For what ever reason, not sure why, it just doesn't want to find my location on the news and weather app, and now maps is in on the conspiracy . I hope they figure out what the problem is before they totally mess up something with my phone. I know the GPS is working correctly because I downloaded an app that somebody suggested and that app works as intended. Not sure what's up with the stock apps, but it's slowly getting on my nerves.

Thanks for the suggestion tho, maybe somebody else will see it and it fix their problem.

I am currently working on a Tutorial that almost anyone can follow to correct the multiple issues from the update to FRG83D. I have the procedure down well now, But it is alot to type and am doing my best that even non-techies should be able to follow. If you would like a quick rundown....I can send you one, if you PM me on here!

Also looking for anyone that can help with making a "COMPLETE IMAGE" of a restored phone so i can reduplicate everything in the phone i have fixed. ALSO it would help reduce the number of steps required to fix the phone.
