Has the battery life been announced or did I miss it?

I can't believe I'm going to say this, but have you tried Juice Defender? It's a similar type app, that monitors and manages processes that use your battery. I know a few people with the Charge and it helped quite a bit. In all honesty, if you know what you're doing you should be able to do what these apps do for you, manually, and with a bit more control.

+1 for juice defender ....way better app than a taskiller I did not know any still used. Those except for dumb vzw people lol

Your exactly right but you do not have to set up ATK to automatically kill anything. There is a setting that turns it off and just allows a 2 button kill which is nice. It does stay running itself but I didn't notice a huge battery change. There is another post on this but I haven't bothered to research why it's bad. Instead I will just take the posts as people knowing more then I care to and uninstalling it. In fact it's now gone

I know! Friggin mindless Vzw employees. I can't keep track of the number of times I'm been told by a Vzw employee that my phone "needs" a task killer. :icon_ cry:

Android does not need a task killer, but one was built into ICS.

o_O

If you feel better with ATK, keep it. If not, don't.

There are pros and cons to both sides of the argument.

Thread hijack? Lol. Don't use ATK. Only use a task manager when an app is unresponsive. If you're still using an app... press home to get back to the home screen. If you're done with the app... press back until you get to the home screen

everyone believes them also. they just want to give a quick answer so customers will leave satisfied. its like steroids, you take it and get stronger but in the long run.... you get owned. obv atk isnt to this degree, but it only hurts your phone.

lol sorry for the thread jack. I'm still not happy about my battery life but I expect the GS to be better just because the phone is free from bloatware and it's newer. My gf and friends tell me to just get the new Iphone but I'm refusing to do so until I see the GS in action and get a conformation on battery life as well as a wifi tethering root. But Back on topic.... That battery life better be good but honestly if they didn't put a battery life out either 1. it sucks. or 2. they are working on that now and that's why it hasn't come out yet lol

I don't imagine the battery will be great, it's just not possible with lithium technology right now. 4G LTE + an HD screen + dual core processor = bad battery life. There isn't some magic way to make things better, hardware is simply advancing at such a rapid pace that the ancient lithium tech can't keep up and so we're stuck with bad battery life until we find a new source of power for hand held devices.

One good thing about the Nexus is the battery is still removable if you're not able to charge during the day, you can pop in another battery and be on your way.

It's not a great solution, but it's better than charging constantly.

We shouldn't be blaming the phone manufacturers either, the companies building lithium batteries should be putting more money into funding research for new battery tech, they've stood around with their lovely lithium for so long now they just don't know where to look.

your correct but remember, they coulda easily put a stronger battery into the device. they put a 1750 Mhz battery inside of it. the droid razr has a 1780 mhz battery. the gn obv has more power consumption. they really could of added a 1.85k+mhz battery. kinda silly for them not to do that.

and if before a phone comes out, a talk about how i can keep a spare battery in my pocket to keep my phone powered is happeining, then im scared to see how bad the battery is. im going to wait and see the down side of the nexus. ever since it came out, only bad things have been released. no gorilla glass, terrible battery...

and also, put a dam sd card in it like every other phone in the past two years.

Just like megapixels isn't the only way to measure a camera, mAh isn't the only way to measure a battery. It's one factor.

Also there is hope that ICS has found ways to lessen battery drain. We'll just have to wait until the phone comes out before we know for sure if it's got the battery life of a Thunderbolt (boo) or a Star-tac (yay!)

Yea your right but lets look at what we know. low mAh, huge bright hd 4.65 inch amoled screen, 1.2 dual core ghz processor. how much help could ics possibly give the phone that gingerbread and froyo couldnt accomplish?

Software can make a HUGE difference. Download "Where" or some task killer apps and watch your battery life decrease by half. Also poorly coded games (ZYNGA) kill battery. If they've done a good deal of optimizing in ICS then you could very well see a big gain in battery life.

i see what your saying but this is the way i see it.
in my droid 1, under battery usage, display always is at the top of my list. the droid 1 has a remarkably smaller screen the the galaxy nexus, with less resolution, hd, amoled, and whatever else i missed. thats where i come up with my reasoning. Im not sure how much better they could of coded ice cream sandwich then gb and froyo. i mean that the coders are professionals, if there was something that they could of done to make battery life better, then they would of done it. look at custom roms for instance. some give terrible battery life, some give good batterylife. however, not one rom does that drastic of a change from another. like you are not going to see your battery life double from the software.

then again, i also believe samsung and google know what they are doing. they obviously would not release a phone with just terrible terrible battery life. We know its not going to be great battery life both from the specs we were given and the fact that the battery life was not mentioned at all.

Being that it is LTE (known battery drain) and 4.65" I would say that battery life is somewhere between non-existent and Thunderbolt. So if you are cool with making one phone call before recharging, this may be your phone!!!
I don't understand for the life of me why they don't follow Apple's lead, lower clock speed with massive optimization? 800mhz will ALWAYS outlast 1.2ghz with all things being equal.... I guess when you use clock speed as a device-mover though it forces your hand.....
