Have we bought a lie? do we really need a screen protector?

Ultimate Screen Guard Here...

got it from SEIDIO online. Looks great, no air bubbles, does not affect
the screen sensitivity to touch. I can be a clutz sometimes and manage
to damage anything. Imean, why take the chance, for such a smaller price
than replacing a droid.

Somebody must be buying these things since the last 2 times I've stopped into the Verizon store they have been sold out of the screen protectors.

I've been without my protector for a while and I have a couple little tiny knicks.

I need and will be getting a new screen protector soon.

Rain X idea is interesting. Might have to try.

I recently (about a month ago) removed my screen protector and went naked because of a conversation I had with a friend while I was showing off the Droid. I was talking about the gorilla glass and how durable it was (even showing him Youtube videos of demonstrations).

He then asked the question.... "Why do you have a screen protector if the glass is so strong?"
This honestly ate at me until I finally realized he was right and gave in and took off the screen protector.
Next time I saw him I took out my keys, attacked my Droid screen, and left not a scratch.

I'm not against the screen protectors, but I've moved on :)

Nothing is indestructable. Metal keys and such may not do a lot of damage, but sand and other objects can easily scratch. I notice this with my aquarium. I've never scratched it with metal scrapers and razor blades, but get a little sand between the magnet cleaners and it will easily scratch.

I remember as a kid certain ceramics can easily scratch or shatter glass. You could easily take out a car window flicking a pebble size piece of ceramic from a broken spark plug. Hard to believe, but it's true! So it's not the metals I'm worried about, but the quartz, mica's and ceramics that do the real damage.

True true. But I live dangerously :icon_ devil:

I think its personal preference. I bought a boxwave screen protector just because. If anything it's resistant to fingerprint smudges. Well most....

I think some sand may have been what caused the nick in my screen as I was very careful with it. That nick was driving me nuts, but I ended up exchanging it later due to a very loose slider.

just took off the plastic vzw screen protector and touching the glass directly is "vady niiicccee" to quote the scholar Borat.

do you know of anyone who scratched their touch screen because they didn't have a screen protector?

have we been sucked into believing a lie?
do we need this?

Scratched mine around 2 weeks in (I am sure a search would bring up exact time frame since I posted about it). Not sure if a grain of sand got in my case or what. Back to using a screen protector again. Besides...much easier to deal with finger prints.

Scratched my first Droid's screen that didn't have a screen protector on it.

Buy a screen protector if you want to protect the screen.

+1....I was lucky my scratch was not huge, but I learned my lesson. For about 2 weeks I would kill myself because I would look right at the scratch. Now, I just ignore it.

Read post 2 ... from the the guy in charge of Motorola's support forum. Specifically:

We do not recommend using a screen protector on the DROID because it does impact the touch sensitivity. In fact, Verizon agreed with that so you must have run into an agent who missed that memo. The glass on the DROID is pretty durable. I would return the screen protector.

And this as well here:
http://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/38345

Specifically:

Here are some things to keep in mind regarding your touch screen:

Your phone has a capacitive touch screen which requires your skin to touch the screen. If you are using a screen protector your screen may not work as designed.

So, use a screen protector if you want, but be advised that it is contrary to the manufacturers suggestions
