Home Replacement Apps: ADW Launcher

Hey bilgediver, question for ya...

I'm getting kind of annoyed with this problem of widgets disappearing from my screens after a reboot. Here's my question...

If I uninstall ADW Launcher temporarily, and test those disappearing widgets on the stock screens, if I re-install it afterwards, will I have to go through the whole setup process again? Or will a backup that is on the SD Card save me that hassle? I have Titanium Backup and I just made sure it was backed up, will that backup have all my settings backed up as well or just the application? I wanna figure this issue out. It has me annoyed LOL.

Try making a backup in the ADW settings first there are two (2) backups also I would try going into Ultimate droid setting and go to performance setting and check the 'LOCK HOME IN MEMORY' and see what that does first... I'm using the ADW 1.2.0 standalone version and I don't have any problems. So make sure you have another one like Launcher Pro installed first before you deleted the ADW one and switch to it (Launcher Pro) before you do anything. If it were me I would just go back to the ADW 1.2.0 standalone. and the after it is installed try restoring your settings.

I have backups made, both settings and desktop configuration. I back up everything religiously. (For moments like this LOL)

I looked in the ADW settings, and I don't see "LOCK HOME IN MEMORY". I have ADW 1.3.3 Standalone... I just did update it the other day... was posting about it in this thread before and after I updated...

I may just take the plunge and do it, just to see if it's the ADW or the widgets themselves, do you know if the backups are still saved on the SD Card after the app is uninstalled? That's what I want to know before I dive head first into it... setting up ADW takes a little time.

HA!! There's more than one way to skin a cat...

The ADW settings, when backed up, are saved to /sdcard/adw_settings.xml

So I opened my file manager, and found the adw_settings.xml file, and copied and pasted it to /sdcard/download folder. That way, if I uninstall ADW and test the widgets, I can re-install ADW, and put the .xml file back into /sdcard and I will keep my settings. Or at least it sounds good on paper...wish me luck LMAO

Well heck glad you found it, I wasn't gonna look anyway :p

Even if I like what I have now I usually end up changing my entire desktop configuration every week or so now anyway.

Thanks J*Bishop :)

Yea, 1.2.0 Standalone was probably his most stable version that had the most customizations.

1.3+ has a tad more customizing (prob the biggest is the App Drawer icon, which I was hoping for anyway), but it appears to still be a tad buggy.

I may have figured out the problem. I uninstalled ADW and tried the same widgets on the stock screens. Same problem, disappeared after reboot and disappeared from the widgets list when creating a widget. So I did some digging. I use "Apps2SD" for moving apps to the SD card. It shows the widgets being installed on the phone. However, when I go into the phone settings, under applications, and tap manage applications, it shows the widgets as being installed on the SD card, which is a no-no with widgets. I tap "move to phone", reinstall the widgets, and they survive a reboot. Now I have to figure out why they are automatically sent to the SD card. I also found my ADW themes on the SD card, and moved those to the phone. So now when I reinstall ADW maybe those themes will stick now.

See this thread I made in this section:

Well I'm glad you got that sorted out! I use the built-in Android settings for that as well.

There might be a setting under Android Settings which has all new Apps pre-installing to the SD Card instead of Phone. I can't quite check as I'm using a custom ROM which has it anyway.

Life is good. That problem is solved!! The only thing that is NOT solved is why I can't find the setting to keep apps and widgets from pre-installing to the SD Card. So if I install any new widgets I just have to go into manage application settings and make sure they are on the phone. And that little trick with saving the adw_settings.xml in /sdcard/download and then moving it back worked like a charm. Downloaded ADW, reinstalled, put that file back and rebooted and everything is wonderful. Gawd I love this phone and this forum. LOL dancedroid

EDIT: My themes by y0rk are sticking now, and so is my little Dolphin icon. Life is really really good LOL

It could be because you still have Apps2SD installed. Maybe theres a setting inside that app.

The only setting in there says "notify when apps can be moved to SD"... but what's odd is Apps2SD shows them on the phone. The phone shows them on the card. I'm almost scared to delete it LOL :icon_eek:

Its like your phone and Apps2SD pointing at each other going "he did it"

I didn't even know the phone had that capability until I happened to dig in there and stumble across it... LOL

I'm wondering if I uninstall Apps2SD if all those apps on the SD card will be back on the phone or not... things that make ya go Hmmmm :icon_eek:
