How to download roms from your phone and play games

It just wont work for me... It keeps saying ROM load failed. And I can never find the extracted file in the download file of the SD when I go to the gearoid app.

I have download crutch and astro. Any tips? What am I doing wrong?

i have the same problem i can't seem to extract files from coolroms.com. and i cant seem to dl anything from freeroms.com

Same here. I can download the roms just fine, and I can see them in my downloads folder using Astro, but when I click "extract", nothing happens. The file is never extracted. Any ideas?

Guys your problem is that you do not have ASTRO file manager installed. Get this from the market and then you can download zip files from freeroms.com - you don't even need to unzip them! Just simply download ASTRO, download a rom, and you are playing. The emulators will read the zip files, no need to waste time and clutter up your folders extracting them.

Couldn't of said it better myself. If something is not working and your not having luck getting it straighted out then i suggest deleting whatever you downloaded and restart with the directions I gave. Follow them to a T and hopefully there should be no issues. I was able to do this on my girlfriends phone in a few min.

Try and play the game without extracting the file. I along with others have had sucess with playing the game without unzipping them.

I might just have to try and uninstall everything and try again. I've tried playing the game without extracting the file, but when I go to my SNES emulator and select "Load ROM", it shows no files to load and I am in the right directory. So, I guess I will uninstall everything and try again!

please tell me how that goes because i am still having problems....

nvm i just dled it though my computer to my phone no need for the other apps astro and crutch.

I downloaded crutch and astro file manager. When I click on d/l, A page with all weird letters comes up and after page loads there are no files in the d/l folder?

Try the other method that I posted if downloading them off the phone doesnt work.

Download ROMS from various sites
Sync Droid up to computer
Create a folder called 'ROMS' or whatever you may like to call it
Put downloaded ROMS into that folder
Unsync Droid
Point emulator towards that folder
Choose a ROM

And you should be playing it in no time flat, saying its a working ROM. Some just dont work.

These steps work, if they do not, you are doing something wrong. I followed them and was playing mario, contra, etc in minutes. I also set up my girlfriends Eris to do the same thing and it took me literally under a minute. Just follow the steps, if you think you did and may have messed something up - just start over.

If you absolutely can not figure this out on your phone, just sync it to your computer. I came from a 4 year old dumb phone and had never messed with a smart phone in my life, and I figured this out immediately by following the directions listed by the OP. Anyway, install your emulators then sync your Droid as mentioned above. Freeroms.com is the only site you will need, download your roms and put them in your new folder on the Droid. Run your emulator, click load rom, and find the folder you saved the roms to from your computer. Please note that you will need to properly dismount your Droid from your computer before you will be able to do anything on the phone. If you downloaded the roms with your droid, as opposed to transfering from your computer, they should be in the download folder by default.

1. Do not unzip the files, the emulators will read them
2. You must have ASTRO File Manager, Download Crutch, or another app you allow you to download unknown file types - zip files in this case

I am assuming you are not getting to the actual final download screen, you typically click on the game, wait for the page to load, and then there will be an actualy download link near the bottom. Freeroms has a timer that displays something like "remember to vote" for a couple seconds before the download link appears. Your download history will pull up once you click the direct download link.
