HTC keyboard on DROID -non-root-

I like this keyboard a lot. But the thing I notice most is that the voice to text function works much better than what I was using (Talk to Me Keyboard). Does this use a different voice to text engine or ??

Is there a way to get an ALT key to show, so I can easily access the punctuation above letters? I looked but can't see a way of doing this. Press and hold to get the alternate character seems cumbersome. The predictive text obviously helps though.

That key is available, except it's not labeled as "ALT"...

It's the 12# key next to the return key towards the bottom right of the keyboard.

Then once you're in that "ALT / 12#" keyboard, you can access additional characters by pressing the 1/2 key on the left side of the spacebar key.

To get back to your alpha keyboard, press ABC key next to the return key towards the left side of the keyboard.

I'm aware of that key, but unfortunately that's not what I was really looking for. On most keyboards you have an ALT key available that basically toggles the letter and alternate character above it without having to launch a second keyboard. I'd actually prefer that key be available than the keyboard dropdown button. But thanks anyhow.:)

Hold down the key with what you want for a second and it will change.

Yep, I knew about that option too. I'm truly not trying to be nitpicky but the lack of an ALT key does introduce a break in rhythm when typing. Stopping to access these characters is just odd to me. I guess it isn't an option. I'll make a recommendation to the developer. Thanks guys.

Ahhhh.... I gotcha. I agree with you! It would be nice to eliminate the need to switch over to a different keyboard.

No, you're not overly "nitpicky"; you're absolutely right on point!

The keyboard is great in my opinion; but there is definitely a break in rhythm when you need to access the alternate characters.

In fact, the sentence I typed above "No, you're not overly "nitpicky"; you're absolutely right on point!" would have been a chore to type on my Droid with all the special characters in it! LOL :p

LOL!! Yeah, that must have been fun to type.

I agree though. I love the keyboard. In fact I made it my default. It's just this one quirk that drives me a little nuts.

Ok, I'm having a problem. I'm trying to remote install this from Iraq (telling my wife what to do over videoteleconferencing). She downloaded V.16 and copied to the SD card. She installed the two .apk files, and ensured that the other one was in the root folder. When she went to menu>settings/language and keyboard, there was no choice for the Touchplus keyboard. I had her go back out, do the long press on the stock keyboard and choose the touch input. The new keyboard came up, but then errored and only left her with the choice to force quit.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Voice input doesn't work for me. I hit the button but nothing happens. If I hold it down, the settings comes up. I unrooted for the upcoming from Droidmod which had the 2.1 keyboard with voice which worked perfectly for me. I need that back.

Voice input works perfectly on my phone unrooted. In fact it's shockingly accurate.

I'm torn between using HTC with voice or Swype...

Hi guys. I love the keyboard but I have one big issue. When using the physical keyboard with the phone open, it always inserts periods after pressing the space button twice. I want that feature turned off cause it really makes your texts look too formal. Is there a way to disable this? I didn't see an option in the settings. Thanks
