I just got back from the Verizon store a half hour ago and got to actually hold and see one. They also said they got rumor it might be released at the end of March.:icon_ banana:

I am in a horrible spot, my d1 is unusable, I can go "upgrade" to a new device, but then I have 14 days to return it + a $35 restocking fee...

im in the same spot! and idk what to do! i have the verizon store ordering me a dx but i dont know if i should get it and take the chance, praying that the tb comes out in 14 days, because the 35 isn't a big problem, but i know with my luck it will be the week after that and i'll be with the dx untill july! i just want some solid info on the release date so i can plan! haha my env touch barely opens anymore

Don't risk it buy a cheaply off Cl until the TB comes out

Good advice. If i were in same position id just whip out my old Env and wait a couple weeks.

I'm in the same exact position. I have until March 24 to return the Droid 2 Global (which I really don't like) and pay the $35 restocking fee. My droid 1 is cracked might might be usable, or my old old old Blackberry Pearl. So glad I never throw anything out.

Let's hope it launches next week! If someone got to hold one at a VZW store, that's got to be a good sign. I went to VZW and Best Buy and didn't even see a demo model.

This is what worries me. I'm trying to figure out whether it's worth getting this with the unlimited data plan or taking a chance and waiting for the Bionic and getting spanked with a tiered data plan -- which may be the plan for selling the bionic...

My current plan is to hold out for the Bionic, but if they announce the new plans I will settle for the TB before the new plans go into effect. I assume we will have some notice before they go into effect though.

This has been debated here before... Based on the Verizon CFO's statements a few weeks back, the new 4G tiered pricing will come out WITH the Thunderbolt. I think a number of folks were hoping to lock in $29.99/month unlimited with the TB for two years and push off tiering as much as possible, but it could be that it will not be possible.

Just speculation based on the CFO's statements to investors though...

Verizon allowing unlimited data on their LTE network for $29.99 a month? When pigs fly. This is Verizon we are talking about! You can bet tiered pricing will be in effect at launch.

My money is on March 24th based on Verizons previous release pattern. They like Thursdays and it would be out before the 1st qtr is over.

I thought the word on the street was the TBolt was going to be launched with the same $30 then moving up when more 4G devices were coming out....

Agreed, I thought weren't moving to tiered/LTE pricing till this summer. I don't remember where I read that...

I have a very old Motorola E815, and then a Samsung i760, my problem is, that two weeks from now I'll be on vacation, and I need something before that. On top of that I just looked on CL and the cheapest D1 is $225 so that isn't much of an option...

Verizon: HTC Thunderbolt coming 'very shortly,' LTE tiered pricing too | ZDNet

Two key quotes:

  • As we progress down the LTE range and bring more devices to the table—we will be launching the HTC Thunderbolt very shortly here—that will give you a flavor of what our tiered pricing structure will look like going forward.
  • “LTE also gives us the capability to price very differently than we priced before. Not just on consumption, but also possibly on speed differentiation. So we are still working through those models. Don’t know if we will do something there yet, but wireless is still working through those and that will come out with the HTC launch.

What will be interesting is there's a lot of resistance here [this forum] from paying more for LTE. The big question is are the people here representative? I tend to feel like the power users and heavy users here would pay more if a good plan creates some value. So I'm thinking VZW may fall on its face with this tiered pricing (which would be a good thing for us if we stick to our guns and hold out).

In my case, I'm willing to pay a little more because I may do a lot more video streaming with LTE speeds. Problem is, that burns through data so if there's going to be a 2-5 gig tap, or even just throttling at 5-10gigs, then I can't watch much video and the LTE appeal decreases significantly for me.

I'm very interested to see what they do. Many people like myself have unlimited home broadband for $30-$50 (+$30 for smartphone data), so that's basically what VZW has to work with. It's either or for me - make LTE an affordable alternative to home broadband or I stick with 3G. I'd probably do $30 for a 2 gig LTE plan. I really only need more if I'm doing video, and another $15-$20 to watch just a few hours of video a month isn't worth it.

I think the issue for most people is that they don't do a huge amount of data today on 3G since the experience is not as good. With 4G, the experience will be much better so they will tend to use it more. Same behavior evolved with home usage.

I think Verizon would be smart to charge an extra 10 or 15 for unlimited 4G (on top of the $40 today). That would undercut the AT&T pricing and would cause an differentiation. Verizon has to be careful with advertising video streaming and then capping data (to your point).

Originally that was the plan. $30 unlimited and summer was to introduce tiered data. If they changed it now it doesn't matter its still vaporware anyways
