i'm torn with the thunderbolt... do i get it tomorrow and deal with horrible battery life or do i get it in april when i get the extended battery i ordered from htc pedia?

comments?

No offense intended but are you privy to some specific facts about "horrible battery life" or is that from rumors? I believe JohnBoy, who has been using a TB for a couple weeks, has reported that it the battery use is typical of other high-end smartphones. He has not seen or reported any red flags so to speak. Everything else seems to be either rumors or reports from early pre-production testing that may have been addressed.

If you have been using smartphones then you are used to keeping it on a charger whenever you can: desk, car, etc.
he has not used the phone in a 4g area yet so we still dont know

I just called my local Verizon store. They don't know how many they're getting, but they open at 7am. I guess I'll be there bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. :icon_eek:

Wouldn't do that, they don't get them till they are shipped to them, so they wont be available till like atleast 10am tomorrow at the store, FedEx ships them, how i know? I work at FedEx, I've seen a few of them today while working :icon_ banana:

He said they would be on sale at 7am. That's why they are opening early. They don't normally open until 9.

I was just skimming through the manual. Under Maps it only talks about VZW Navigator and Bing. Does this thing not have Google Maps?

went to my local store and the lady said they have them in the back but aren't allowed to sel them yet. She also said price is $249 but if you are using your early upgrade it is $20 extra.
When did they add the $20 surcharge?

It's always been an extra $20 if you upgrade before your upgrade time. I remember years ago I upgraded from my enV to an LG Voyager and they charged me $20 extra for it.

I just left the Verizon store where they said the phone was $349 with a instant $100 rebate for a total of $249 plus tax on $749. In So Cal that is an additional $75.

I also asked if I purchased the phone from a 3rd source ie: Best Buy or Wirefly, where would I take the phone for warranty repairs if needed. They stated that I would have to take to the point of purchase. If it was BB then no big deal, but to have to send it to Wirefly would be a pain.

Wirefly also stated to me yesterday that they give a 90 day warranty on the phone whereas, Verizon warranties it for one year.
Best Buy had the best extended warranty at $7.99 per month with no deductable. Verizon was $7.99 with an $89 deductable.

Holy @#*((! You have to pay tax on $749 instead of $249.99? geeze, I'm glad I went wirefly...199.99 + no tax and no activation

Funkyb, did Wirefly work out for you. I'm considering buying it from Wirefly but I have never made a purchase there before. Does anyone have any suggestions. I don't really care about sending it back for warranty as I'm going to keep my Droid.

Your only charged if you are not using an upgrade from another line if you have one. I did this back in November when I got my X.

Does skype missing change your mind:

Skype with Video Appears to be Axed Completely from the HTC Thunderbolt

On 03.16.11, In News, Rumors, by Kellex
It seems like only a few weeks ago that we were enjoying Verizon’s CES press event which featured its lineup of 4G LTE devices, all with front-facing cameras to take advantage of the newly announced Skype mobile with video. Oh how times have changed.
Questions surrounding this new video chatting app all started after our friends at Big Red informed us that Skype would not be ready at launch for the Thunderbolt in February. Within days of that report though, a new 2/28 date surfaced, giving hope to those wishing to video chat with friends on their new 4.3″ tigerblooded beast. And then 10 days later, Best Buy sent out memos to employees with really bad news. The exact words were, “The Skype feature will not be available on the HTC Thunderbolt.” Uh oh. It didn’t say, “not available – but will be.” It just said, “not be available.”
And almost immediately after that news hit our inbox, the changing of HTC’s and Verizon’s sites started happening. The 4G LTE page for Big Red which used to feature its own Skype tab, was now missing for some reason.

And then HTC took down their big Flash intro for the phone, only to bring it back within the last week; missing any reference to Skype of course.

Finally today, some friends of ours reached out to show how their marketing materials had changed within the last few days. Stickers were being sent to cover up references to Skype on posters and other displays.
So will we ever see Skype mobile with video? You would hope so, right? The original plan was for it to be built into your Sense contact list to give you quick access to your friends with Skype, but that no longer appears to be the case. We’ll just try to hold out hope for a last minute change. Who doesn’t want some face time with friends from afar?
Cheers J!

Should be the VZ website tonight at midnight and I still haven't got that email or text message from Verizon so I would be one of the first to know... Has anyone?

What I didn't like about wirefly was having to sent it back there for warranty. You could be without a phone for 2 weeks shipping it back and forth.

That is only for the first 30 days, after that, you go to a verizon retail store. This was confirmed by a WireFly rep posting on this forum.

They told me the same but when I told them to show me in writing they were unable to.
They will say anything to get a sale.
