My advice probably hasn't changed much since the last time I posted here, but I'll post it again. Forum regulars know that I am a Moto fan (surprise!
); but I also appreciate and have respect for many phones on the market. I can attest to the quality of the Samsung Note series, excellent advice from
@mountainbikermark . I have a Note 2 as my company provided work phone. It's obviously an older model, but I am the second owner and it's on its 4th straight year of everyday use. It's still as rock-solid as Day 1, an all around great phone with excellent build quality. My only pet peeve with it....that blinking LED light. It drives me crazy! After using Moto's Active Display for 2+ years now, I can't stand the blinking LED lights on other phones and can't imagine ever buying a phone without Active Display. But that's just me.
As many have said around here before, there is no "right" phone or "best" phone, only the right phone for you the user. From what I could see on Swappa, the Samsung Note 4, Samsung Galaxy S5, LG G4, HTC One M9, Droid Maxx 2 and Droid Turbo may all be in the price range you mentioned. All of those are great phones and would probably work great for you.
If you really like Moto's Active Display, Touchless Controls and Moto App features (like Driving Mode) then those features will be hard to find on any phone other than Moto. If those are things you can live without, the Samsung, LG and HTC phones above are great choices.
The Huawei Nexus 5x that
@Mustang02 mentioned is a great phone also, but may fall outside of your budget right now.
If you do want to stick with a Moto, there are 64GB Droid Turbo's selling for right around $218 on Swappa, and 32GB selling for around $161. That is a great phone and you would love it coming from a Droid Maxx. It has all of the features of the Maxx, and then a few more. It's also scheduled to receive the Android Marshmallow update at some point, so that's another bonus. The only possible issue with the Turbo is no SD Card slot; but if you can find a 64GB for around $200 that may not be an issue. Another Moto phone to consider is the Droid Maxx 2. It came out last year along with the Turbo 2. It doesn't have the shatter shield screen like the Turbo 2, but is a great phone and much more affordable than the Turbo 2. The Maxx 2 is less than a year old, has an SD Card slot and a 3600 mAh battery.
Good luck & happy shopping!
