OP, did you check the root tutorial in the Droid 2 hacking section?
As you learned you do need bootstrap for the D2. I would caution that some of the apk changes may cause issues.
@took here is a fix for
"when the M logo begins to fade, pull the battery and immediately re-insert it and it will magically boot you into clockwork recovery....I have no idea why, but it does."
