Is Anyone Happy with Froyo 2.2?

I can hardly stay on 3g and the battery life's still that good. And I'm still going. Going to name my phone the energizer android. And in case you guys think that is from lite use my phone screen is almost always on.

I just got this phone 2 days ago. I'm not a tech person, I'm a mom and I just want a nice phone that works reliably. I thought I'd post to give the opinion/experience of an "average man (woman) on the street".
I was really, really loving this phone until I woke up this morning to the update. The Facebook widget no longer works. Which I can deal with. The real issues, for me, started when I tried to use the camera. I had some pictures I wanted to delete and one I wanted to send to Facebook. I was able to delete 3 pictures, then it froze up. The screen and buttons along the bottom became unresponsive. Powered down and tried again. Could not edit or delete pictures. The screens were now slow for any function (back button, sliding between home screens, etc). Called the Verizon store & they said bring it in. Gave me a new phone after seeing that the screen continued to lock up. While charging the new phone, the OTA update came through and now the new phone has the same issues. I also noticed (on the original phone) that the battery needed a charge by noon. Which is greatly decreased from how it had been working.
I know that my issues are minor to many, but for me, I really wanted to use those particular features. When I called Verizon customer support they said I can trade the phone in within 15 days of purchase but that all other droids use the same OS. I asked about going back to the previous OS and the person on the phone said that involved rooting which cancels out any warranty or protection from Verizon and Samsung. I don't know anything about what rooting is so I doubt it's a viable option for me.
Even though the upgrade came OTA - should I do a factory reset? To improve the battery life I should remove the battery, replace it, power the phone, and press *228? Any other tips or recommendations? I've already put the stock Facebook widget in the "trash". I know there are other FB apps...are there apps I can use instead of the stock camera?

Yes, do a factory reset and the*228 thing. That took care of my issues with the OTA update.

Also I like the Flow for Facebook app. Tweetdeck is good too. I play with Vignette, Retro Camera and FX.Camera for camera apps

Thanks. Did the factory reset & *228. Trashed stock FB widget. Seems better. Will test out camera functions tomorrow. Feeling the love rekindle.

It's working nicely this morning. There have been several times when the buttons along the bottom (home, back, etc) become unresponsive. Have found that pressing the home button and without letting go, sliding over to the settings button, will often clear the problem up.
Many times when I'm wanting to go to the home screen (pressing home button), the task manager pops up. Is this normal? Any way to avoid it? I've never had more than 3 or 4 apps running and it does it even if I have only 2 apps running (messaging & email).
I appreciate the assistance & info!

Long press the home key does bring up task manager. Are you long pressing? I've found if the keys become sluggish I might be the problem. I might be trying to do too many things at once. Also when in task manager you can clear RAM to help move things a little quicker. Cleaning out cache helps too.

I'll try to pay closer attention to how I'm pressing keys.
On the battery issue, I charged the phone fully last night before bed. Checked email & turned it off. Took 5 pictures today & battery was down to 15%. Is there a thread here or some tips on saving battery life? This will really suck anytime I'm out & about.

I've posted a few times in this and other threads steps I took to recalibrate my battery. Try going search around here and online. Wish I could send you the link I used but not at home near my pc. I have however posted it in these forums.

But it can't hurt to try. OTA updates like this *can* disturb the battery calibration that was in place.

Thanks - I'll search. I did the factory reset & *228 last night. Seems like I read somewhere about using black wallpaper & such to help save on battery/power usage.

Yep. I use black wallpapers too..or mostly black. Juice defender plus, auto killer memory optimizer, no task killer used, cache cleaning, etc. It's taken a few trials and errors to get results I like - without rooting. Just not ready to go there yet.

However only done the reset once.

Good luck

I was very unhappy with 2.2. I had a slew of problems, including very sluggish response, poor battery life, and slow apps. I'm stock, so I was ready to return my phone...it was unusable.

After reading around here, I decided to do a factory reset. Backed up with Astro and let'er rip. My phone is working perfectly now. Today will be the first test of battery life, so I'll see how that goes. Only wish I would have backed up my messages (if possible) and my memos.

I thought I'd add that I also added the LauncherPro app to my phone. The claim from reviews I've read on that app is that it's actually faster than the stock launcher. It's been working great for me and I do not see the sluggishness I was seeing even after the factory reset.
The batter lasted about 10 hrs. yesterday. Changed to black wallpaper & charged it last night. Will see if it's even better today.
Overall, I think this phone is amazing & I'm glad I have it.
