I just got this phone 2 days ago. I'm not a tech person, I'm a mom and I just want a nice phone that works reliably. I thought I'd post to give the opinion/experience of an "average man (woman) on the street".
I was really, really loving this phone until I woke up this morning to the update. The Facebook widget no longer works. Which I can deal with. The real issues, for me, started when I tried to use the camera. I had some pictures I wanted to delete and one I wanted to send to Facebook. I was able to delete 3 pictures, then it froze up. The screen and buttons along the bottom became unresponsive. Powered down and tried again. Could not edit or delete pictures. The screens were now slow for any function (back button, sliding between home screens, etc). Called the Verizon store & they said bring it in. Gave me a new phone after seeing that the screen continued to lock up. While charging the new phone, the OTA update came through and now the new phone has the same issues. I also noticed (on the original phone) that the battery needed a charge by noon. Which is greatly decreased from how it had been working.
I know that my issues are minor to many, but for me, I really wanted to use those particular features. When I called Verizon customer support they said I can trade the phone in within 15 days of purchase but that all other droids use the same OS. I asked about going back to the previous OS and the person on the phone said that involved rooting which cancels out any warranty or protection from Verizon and Samsung. I don't know anything about what rooting is so I doubt it's a viable option for me.
Even though the upgrade came OTA - should I do a factory reset? To improve the battery life I should remove the battery, replace it, power the phone, and press *228? Any other tips or recommendations? I've already put the stock Facebook widget in the "trash". I know there are other FB apps...are there apps I can use instead of the stock camera?
