Is Jelly Bean Coming to Bionic and RAZR ?

Taking a look at What's Next For Android? I'm not sure I want Jelly Bean

Android 2.6 (Jellybean)
Release Date: Spring 2014 (this article was written in 2010)
Features:
-Phone numbers replaced by targeted ads
-Automatically screens calls based on other party's attractiveness
-Emits powerful Nordic pheromones
-Vibration mode causes spontaneous conception

They also said this about ICS

Android 2.5 (Ice Cream)
Release Date: Winter 2013
Features:
-Automatic privacy screen when browsing pornography
-Valid form of ID in continental US and parts of EU
-Native CueCat support
-Calls your mother on her birthday

there is obviously some sarcasm built into that article, however the gizmodo writers are perpetual idevice fanboys and will find a way to put down android at almost every chance they can. things seem to have calmed down a bit on the android bashing lately, but once the next i-whatever comes out they will start back up with the bs.

That's another problem with Samsung, they are insanely show with official updates! The nice thing about nexus devices is that they can be unlocked and don't have to wait for official updates. You can flash updates directly from Google!

I've never liked Samsung phones, they always feel like a toy i should be giving my kids, not a smart phone that I'm paying $500+ to get.

Not on an LTE/CDMA model, you can't. The LTE/CDMA baseband code is proprietary.

It works on the nexus which has basically identical hardware. But us bionic owners haven't even gotten an official Ics yet! There's no point even wondering if we'll get jelly bean until next summer.and by then it will be really old

My only hope is that the delay in the first place has to do with the Jelly Bean PDK being released early to certain hardware manufacturers.

I'm HOPING since Moto is now part of Google they got that PDK, and since Jelly Bean is technically just an increment to ICS, that they just went ahead and did it as JB instead.

A Boy can dream.

Well the Droid X got E2.1 , F2.2, and G2.3! So I wouldn't be surprised if you guys got it! My Nexus is built as well as any of the Moto's I've owned. I've had no bugs or any issues and have been thrilled to bits. Just putting in a positive word against all the negative. :)

Personally I doubt it. It probably has a requirement that the Bionic and the RAZR don't have. When I had my OG Droid we went from Eclair to Froyo, but that was it. I haven't seen an phone handle 3 different operating systems.

Motorola Cliq:

Came with Cupcake.
Official upgrade to Eclair
Custom rom upgrades to Froyo, then Gingerbread, and now ICS. :)

Helluva little workhorse.

Good to know. I should've qualified my comment to OTA updates on a stock phone. The one you mentioned had only one official update to Eclair while the rest were custom ROMs. While the Bionic and the RAZR may get a custom Jelly Bean ROM, I still doubt that they'll get Jelly Bean OTA.

I'll be happy to be proved wrong, though.

The versions I mentioned for the Droid X were all OTA's! There is hope!!

That's good to know. The hitch will be what the hardware requirements for Jelly Bean are. Plus whatever Motorola and Verizon decide to do.

They will probably get Jelly Bean. At the very least the RAZR will. I think Google intentially made it a nominal upgrade to ICS to increase OS adoption and reduce fragmentation.

I foresee less GB to ICS situations (full revisions) and more ICS to JB situations (tweaks).

I think that ICS is a strong enough platform to carry them for a year provided they throw out JB-like upgrades.

I'd be willing to bet Verizon won't allow it even if the Bionic can run it with no problem so people with unlimited plans will need to upgrade thier phone and lose unlimited data or upgrade at full price.
