Issues Still Remain After Update...

Signal diff was between 2 to 4 dBm, which is significant. (3 dB is a factor of two in power!)
So if I'm reading you right and example of what you saw was the Moto Droid had -73dB and the Eris had -75dB to -77dB? Did I read that right...? Around where I am...I was seeing a difference of 18 to 20 where the Moto Droid had -80dB and the Eris (when not showing 0) would have -97dB or so.

SH - Yes, that's basically it. But at the store here, the Eris was around -73 dBm, whereas the Mot was -71 to -69 dBm. The refresh rate was different between the two, hence the reason for my only being able to give you a range of 2 to 4 dB.

I just can't figure it out. I had a storm 2 which usually sat at -80dB. My brother's moto droid was the same thing. Yet my Eris (when not sitting at 0 across the board) got maybe -97db or so. I now have just a regular phone (env3) and my 1x is pretty solid (3 or 4 bars) it might drop to 2 occasionaly..just rare but the evdo is only slightly better (showing usually two bars sometimes none)than the Eris. Like I said, I don't get it, the storm 2 was great, moto droid was great (signal wise), Eris was not, env3 is the middle man i guess. I have a W755P and its shows excellent evdo coverage while the 1x is so so. Kind of the exact opposite of the env3. I mean, I can understand slight differences in handsets...that is normal. However, I'm getting like opposite behaviors or just a big difference between handsets (signal wise). What am I missing....lol?

That is a very big difference. Surprising, as I would have expected the difference in dBm to be pretty much the same regardless of absolute signal level. But perhaps that isn't the case in an area where signal level is very low. Or perhaps it is/was a bad handset.

I actually considered all three of those phones. The Mot phone just seemed clunkier, and I really didn't care for, or want, the slide out key pad. Although the Mot Droid is a noticeably better performing phone, I chose the Eris for its sleeker design, slightly lower weight, and the touch-screen. The difference in performance didn't seem that huge, to me. But if I start having signal problems, I will probably change my mind!

The Storm II was the bigger contender. I debated between the two for quite some time. I didn't care for its touch screen, and it was also bulkier. The global capabilities were a plus, but I wouldn't use that enough to make a difference to me.

I have pretty much given up. I'm not keeping the Eris as I mentioned before. I will stick with the env3 until something better comes along (smartphone wise). You have to tweak the Eris too much to get it work half way decent or just pretty much turn it into a dumbphone. Its not worth it to me. So hopefully, they fix the Eris and release better android phones.
