Just Bought a Rooted Thunderbolt

I just bought a rooted Thunderbolt. I don't especially want to use it as a phone with a carrier. I'm more interested in using is strictly with a wifi connection. Bering rooted is a bonus since I can remove bloatware and I assume increase the partition size for the phone memory. However, having said that, I know that this phone uses a SIM card and I also know that (at least some) phones with SIM cards can be used with prepaid - no contract minutes. The thought of being able to use a 3G or 4G network from time to time sounds like it would be nice,

I've read various posts and I can't tell if this is something that I might be able to do or not. Can someone explain if this is possible or not?

TIA

I don't believe it's a SIM card slot, but a slot for 4G SIM.

So since it is rooted can I get prepaid 4g with any carrier? or am I still tied to Verizon?
