Keep the Nexus or Trade it in for Rezound

I've rooted my Nexus and running SetCPU, but so far that is the only hack and just running stock 4.02. Going to replace the Gmail and Email apps with older, less "secure" versions so my Pure Messenger widget will work, but other than that I don't care about the custom roms.

I think the major developers will support the Rezound (CM, at a minimum, I assume) so I think that's a bit of a moot point. Everyone was trumpeting the Nexus being unlocked, and I said all along I suspected both the RAZR and Rezound would get unlocked sooner or later, and lo and behold....

The GNex is an excellent phone, but objectively it's only advantages now are NFC (which I view as more gimmick than anything) and the barometer supposedly helping GPS lock. IMO, it's a fairly clear 3rd among the Rezound and RAZR. However, we probably shouldn't overlook how ICS will operate on phones with capacitative buttons.

I'm really struggling with this choice, much more now than a few days ago, obviously. Main draw to the Rezound is the camera and extra storage, neither of which are probably that important to me and so I'm sitting with a perfectly good Nexus that works great for me and debating diving into somewhat the unknown.

can't believe anyone would consider getting the Rezound over the Gnex.

did you guys want a nice ass camera that makes phone calls? or a phone that can take pictures and do anything else?

Why? What makes the GNex an equal or better phone? I'm honestly interested in getting opinions, because outside of custom rom "fanboys" I don't see a compelling reason to choose the GNex over an unlocked Rezound, or RAZR for that matter.

So you're not into rooting/ROMing, how does that change your experience with the phone? Yes this phone is aimed towards that crowd, but in stock form it's still a great phone. I mean I'm running a ROM (ARHD) that is pretty much stock and I feel I am getting alot from my phone. A stock Android phone isn't for everyone and I am a fan of HTC Sense so I can see why you want the Rezound. With ICS coming to the Rezound that may even be more reason for you to switch and you'll have a solid working GB to use now and when ICS hits other devices it should be more polished.

Yup, asked my g/f if she wanted to consider another phone besides her Galaxy Nexus I got her for Christmas. Several times I have asked her actually. Her phone is not unlocked or rooted. She said Nope I do not want to return it or look at any other phones. Said she really likes the phone also coming from a D1. Certainly not simply a developer phone. :) She knows nothing about android development.

Aside from unlocking/rooting/development etc it really ends up being a personal preference. Sure there are technical aspects + and - on each. Since there is no perfect phone/device for everyone. Manufacturers make a bunch. A whole bunch lately :D

If you have no intent on rooting and installing custom roms and are perfectly content waiting for Verizon and moto/HTC to push out updates than the Rezound/RAZR are probably better choices for you.

You really need to just make yourself a chart with the pro's and con's for each and decide that way. For me, rooting and what not is my #1 priority. My signal strength is good in my area, so the radio isn't really an issue for me. I don't mind the grainyness of the screen, if I want it to really look good I turn up the brightness. I rather have the larger sized HD screen than the smaller Rezound Screen. Storage is not an issue for me. I really like the idea of NFC and I feel its going to be more popular in a variety of applications ina year or so. Camera isn't great, but its better than my D1 and works for what I need it for. If I want to take good pics, I'll use my dSLR.

To each their own my friend. That's the great thing about Android, it's available on a variety of devices.

This is what I'm talking about. Yes the main attraction to the Nexus at least on this forum is the developer support. However, the phone is great even for the regular user. I just saw a commercial with the Nexus promoting Google+ with it and you certainly don't need to be rooted/ROMed for that sort of thing. The phone is still stock android, but much user friendly compared to versions of stock android of the past and especially if she is coming from the D1, that's a very nice change.

That was the case like two days ago, but with the RAZR and Rezound being unlocked now, it's a distinction without a difference. GNex will have overall better developer support, but I think that's a very, very marginal difference. I don't expect it to be like the OG Droid where you had to hunt and search via trial & error to find a rom that worked reasonably well.

Rezound is now unlocked, so unless I'm missing something your above points are moot. I'll have to wait all of probably 2 days to get the latest Android update via a rom.

The GNex will have more custom roms, but will they really be better? They borrow and swap a lot of features, anyway, and maybe will have the same issues with the phones being finicky like the D1 but I suspect not. One good CM rom for the Rezound is I think pretty much all you will need.

Specifically I mean aside from unlocking/rooting/development for the Nexus, Rezound or Razr. In other words I am omitting these for all three phones. Ends up coming down to personal preference. :) You will have to decide what phone suits you best. You may like the Rezound or Razr. I prefer my Nexus. That's why manufacturers make different phones.

OK, I misunderstood. Agreed stock Nexus will get updates far ahead of the others, but if you root/flash then what are the pros favoring the Nexus? An extra 0.15" of screen? Really?

NFC may or may not take off in the next year or two, but I'm perfectly content to pull out and swipe my credit card. In fact, I keep sensitive banking information off my phone because aside from losing it, I still don't entirely trust the security especially when you are an early adopter of the latest apps and roms.

I can't see how you can go wrong with either phone. Both are pretty much on par with each other, and each one has something the other doesn't. As far as ICS is concerned, the Rezound is going to get it, so that shouldn't even be a factor. This is more a hardware battle in my opinion. I don't really think you can make a bad choice between the Rezound and the Nexus.

Agreed. My main draw to the Rezound is the camera and storage, but I think I will wait to see how it works with ICS. Should only be a few more days at this point. I have to take a look at battery life, too. I'm getting pretty good battery life on the Nexus with underclocking.

Oh my preference the Galaxy Nexus :) I like the look, feel, the fact it's running stock ICS and directly supported by Google, wonderful screen, no hard buttons, has a NFC chip, is super fast and smooth, battery is removable, and so on...

Again you must decide for yourself what phone suits you best. I did and I doubt anyone could convince me to give up my Nexus for a Razr or Rezound. I checked out the Razr and Rezound and I could easily give back my Nexus and get one of those but I have decided the Galaxy Nexus is the one I want to have.

You seem to be looking for reasons to convince yourself why you should not keep your Nexus. Heck if you don't want it give it back and get something else :)
