Keep the Nexus or Trade it in for Rezound

OK, I misunderstood. Agreed stock Nexus will get updates far ahead of the others, but if you root/flash then what are the pros favoring the Nexus? An extra 0.15" of screen? Really?

NFC may or may not take off in the next year or two, but I'm perfectly content to pull out and swipe my credit card. In fact, I keep sensitive banking information off my phone because aside from losing it, I still don't entirely trust the security especially when you are an early adopter of the latest apps and roms.
Flashing roms is a huge pro for the Nexus. ROMs are rolling out fast for this device and will be long supported because it is more developer friendly. I know you choose not to use NFC, but some others may, so yes that can be a pro. The Nexus resolution is higher than the Razr's so that can be a pro for anyone who watches videos or just appreciates a high quality screen. No shutter lag on the camera is a huge plus for me personally, so I'd list that as a pro. The list can go on and on...

Main point I'm trying to bring across is there is no such thing as the "better overall" phone. It's all personal preference and we should be thankful that Android isn't limited to one device. I can see why people like the Rezound, Razr, Bionic, D3, etc. and I have certainly had my hands on time with each of those devices and more. The fact that there is such a wide variety of choices for Android means each person gets what they want, and that's the only thing that should matter. Sure you're going to butt heads with some but guess what, it's not their phone and their phone isn't yours. If we all wanted to agree on every little thing we would've gotten iphones right?:D

You seem to be looking for reasons to convince yourself why you should not keep your Nexus. Heck if you don't want it give it back and get something else :)

Not exactly. I'm trying to understand the trade-offs so I can choose the best phone for my needs. I'm not the least bit unhappy with the GNex, although it is a bit of a "brick" (but the other phones are nearly identical in overall size).

Point being, the main argument for the GNex has been unlocked and the developer support, and now that is no longer particularly relevant what say we?

The GNex is a great device and has many loyal fans, but I wonder if a month ago the RAZR and Rezound come out unlocked how many of those loyal GN owners would actually have pulled the trigger on the other devices.

It really doesn't matter the hindsight is 20/20 does it for your purposes at this point deciding the best phone for you? :) Or what other people are choosing does it? Your the one who must be happy with your phone. :)

No longer. This point seems to be escaping many. You really only need one good rom, and it will be pretty chalk-full of all the features you need or want. Is CM really going to be better on the GN than the Rezound? I doubt it.

As for zero shutter lag, point taken. But let's see if that remains an advantage once the Rezound gets ICS, when it's superior camera may completely turns that around. I'll give you NFC, but since I'll still need to carry my credit card it ultimately offers no real value.

I'm not bashing the GN, I have it and love it (who wouldn't after the D1?). But I'm seriously considering a switch, and the main thing I keep hearing favoring the GNex is all about root and ICS - and forget it, no more.

Why do you insist on insisting that we are wrong for getting the Nexus? It's personal preference.

You do realize that there are portable credit card readers out there that can take your information from your credit cards just by holding it up to your wallet. NFC is no less safe than a credit card. If a fraudulent purchase is made your credit card company refunds you your money usually same day. This would be no different using Google wallet.

Do what you say and wait to see how the resound is with ICS. You seem to be all but convinced that is the phone you want.

You can't compare the current GNex and its dev support with what you hope will happen to the Resound. Look at the D1 it probably had over 20 roms. The Gnex already has like 10. Each rom is different with features that some prefer and so do not. Sure the rezound will most likely get CM9, but I found way better roms out than CM for my D1.

I like variety and with the Gnex I know that I will have this. I would not be happy if I only had a handful of kernals and roms to choice from.

If you are content with 1 stable rom and want the better camera and extra storage than get the rezound. Seems like its a no brainer for you.

Maybe so. And I see where CM is working on a "build you own rom" type thing where you can choose what features you want and don't. The issues with the D1 meant very few roms would work for you, and I just don't see that happening with the newer phones because the roms don't have to make trade-offs due to ram/cpu. I'm just not seeing the value in having a choice of 20 roms doing more or less the same thing vs., say, 5. Less "support" for the Rezound in no way implies inadequate support.

Rezound is now unlocked, so unless I'm missing something your above points are moot. I'll have to wait all of probably 2 days to get the latest Android update via a rom.

The GNex will have more custom roms, but will they really be better? They borrow and swap a lot of features, anyway, and maybe will have the same issues with the phones being finicky like the D1 but I suspect not. One good CM rom for the Rezound is I think pretty much all you will need.

How did u come to the conclusion that the phone for Google development will borrow from other phones. If anything the rezound and razr would have to borrow from the nex unless u want blurred or sense ice ....which I'll pass on both because I don't like skinned android. Ics loses its coolness after u put blur or sense over it.

The nex actually has less buggy Tom builds than any other phone I can think of.

Please link us to the site you will have the latest android software that doesn't borrow from other phones. I'd like to read up on it

Okay. I am really not sure what exactly you are trying to achieve in this thread anymore. If the physical advantages of the Rezound outweigh the software advantages of the Nexus for you than get the Rezound.

You are asking us to make up your mind for you when we have no evidence to suggest that the Rezound will be on developmental par with the Nexus in say 1 year. For all we know, the Rezound could wind up with better devs.

Point is, we can't decide what phone you should get and when we (Nexus owners happy with their choice) give you a reason why we prefer the Nexus you counter with something saying the Rezound can do that too or the Rezound is better.

Just follow the Rezound development over the next few weeks and make IP your mind. Posting in a Nexus thread is going to give you biased opinions.

Do roms not borrow features from other roms? Do you ever look at the credits for various features and hacks? You're confusing software features with hardware features. Not to say hardware can't cause issues with some features, but if your basis is the D1 you're comparing apples and oranges.

The RAZR/Rezound won't be "borrowing" from the Nexus or vice versa, there will be ICS roms that will all borrow from each other, like they pretty much always have.

Nope...if you think you are going to run an ics rom on your phone anytime before its officially released its either from a leak...or a rom from another phone made to "work" on your device....so yeah. You would be borrowing the entire code.

The nex on the other hand is borrowing what features from what roms on what phones? Answer me that.

My basis is not from d1....not sure where u got that idea. Lol

Point taken, but again that's personal preference. I know many that go through different ROMs every week, I may be one of them this time around. As for CM, who knows, but if that's the ROM of your choice then so be it, I know it was mine on my D1 and I never looked at any others. However, I always felt like I cheated myself out of the full capability of my phone, so this time around I may be flashing a ROM every week, though I admit to only using one ROM so far as I've been busy.

For zero shutter lag, may or may not make it to ICS when it gets to the Rezound, who knows. The rezound camera is superior in quality, no doubt. As for NFC I'll use it mostly to "beam" another Nexus, but for now I'm the only one I know with it:D

I'm not trying to take away anything from the other phones, they're all good. Again each have their advantages and disadvantages and for sure each user is different. The differences between the phones may not be much but some of them may be a dealbreaker for different people. The Razr I found just awkward to hold and the yellowish/greenish tint bugged me. The Rezound, beautiful screen, but it felt bulky and the subtle changes to HTC Sense I wasn't too fond of. The screen animation when switching homescreens was a bit too much for me (yes I know it can be changed).

The main thing about the Nexus to me is it leaves the user full customization. No added UI, no useless bloatware (my verizon and backup are actually useful) and it is supported by Google. Support was the main selling point for me as this should be the first device to receive any updates for Android. Sure the others can be rooted/ROM'd, but the difference is the support behind these devices.

If you are seriously considering switching to the Rezound, go ahead, it's a very good phone. It's fast, smooth, has a very nice screen, and hell the thing even comes with Beats Audio and a pair of Beats earbuds for the same price. I loved my Incredible and like I said if I didn't like the Nexus I would've gone with the Rezound. When ICS makes it way to the Rezound it'll be even better, but the Nexus is for me. This is the only phone that blew me away and everytime I pick it up I still get a grin on my face. Once I demo'd the Rezound and used my friend's for awhile I didn't have that, it felt too familiar. Could that change when ICS comes? Maybe, but HTC Sense will surely take away from some of the ICS experience I bet.

If companies all had agreed on putting NFC, 8mp cameras, etc on their phones then it would all be roughly the same. It's these subtle differences that can make or break the deal when it comes to choosing the phone. Many say a camera is important to them, and it has to be good, for me it's not. I'm perfectly satisfied with the 5mp in my Nexus, in fact the zero shutter lag is a huge positive for me as I've said before. Does it ever cross my mind that they could've put a better camera in the Nexus? It does, but it doesn't make me less happy with the phone. Like I said before, I'm just happy that Android is available on a variety of devices. Need a keyboard, slim profile, large screen, etc? All types of Android phones are available to fit each individual, may not be perfect, but it's pretty close I'd say.

. If the physical advantages of the Rezound outweigh the software advantages of the Nexus for you than get the Rezound.

WHAT software advantages are you referring to? With the Rezound unlocked and due ICS roms any day THERE IS NO software advantage to the Nexus, which DOES make this debate about hardware, To claim the Rezound will somehow have insufficient developer support would appear to be a pretty illogical supposition, basic laws of supply & demand will prove that point unfounded.

We'll have to see what issues pop-up with ICS and the Rezound. But for that matter, in 6 months when a new Android rolls out will the advantages, if any, remain for the Nexus being developed in conjunction with ICS?

Are "software" advantages, which are now rather dubious, really a pro for the Nexus? Why do you think the Nexus will have features (outside of NFC) in roms that won't be available on the Rezound?

A number of posts in this thread say something like "now that the Rezound has been rooted". By that, you mean temp rooted, don't you? I'm not saying that temp rooted isn't good enough. I've only had to reboot my D1 a few times since buying it 2 years ago. If the procedure for rooting the Rezound was simple enough and if the procedure for killing off bloatware was simple enough, I can picture myself being quite happy with that phone.

And how do u even know cm9 will come to the rezound? Have u heard that yet?
