No longer. This point seems to be escaping many. You really only need one good rom, and it will be pretty chalk-full of all the features you need or want. Is CM really going to be better on the GN than the Rezound? I doubt it.
As for zero shutter lag, point taken. But let's see if that remains an advantage once the Rezound gets ICS, when it's superior camera may completely turns that around. I'll give you NFC, but since I'll still need to carry my credit card it ultimately offers no real value.
I'm not bashing the GN, I have it and love it (who wouldn't after the D1?). But I'm seriously considering a switch, and the main thing I keep hearing favoring the GNex is all about root and ICS - and forget it, no more.
Point taken, but again that's personal preference. I know many that go through different ROMs every week, I may be one of them this time around. As for CM, who knows, but if that's the ROM of your choice then so be it, I know it was mine on my D1 and I never looked at any others. However, I always felt like I cheated myself out of the full capability of my phone, so this time around I may be flashing a ROM every week, though I admit to only using one ROM so far as I've been busy.
For zero shutter lag, may or may not make it to ICS when it gets to the Rezound, who knows. The rezound camera is superior in quality, no doubt. As for NFC I'll use it mostly to "beam" another Nexus, but for now I'm the only one I know with it
I'm not trying to take away anything from the other phones, they're all good. Again each have their advantages and disadvantages and for sure each user is different. The differences between the phones may not be much but some of them may be a dealbreaker for different people. The Razr I found just awkward to hold and the yellowish/greenish tint bugged me. The Rezound, beautiful screen, but it felt bulky and the subtle changes to HTC Sense I wasn't too fond of. The screen animation when switching homescreens was a bit too much for me (yes I know it can be changed).
The main thing about the Nexus to me is it leaves the user full customization. No added UI, no useless bloatware (my verizon and backup are actually useful) and it is supported by Google. Support was the main selling point for me as this should be the first device to receive any updates for Android. Sure the others can be rooted/ROM'd, but the difference is the support behind these devices.
If you are seriously considering switching to the Rezound, go ahead, it's a very good phone. It's fast, smooth, has a very nice screen, and hell the thing even comes with Beats Audio and a pair of Beats earbuds for the same price. I loved my Incredible and like I said if I didn't like the Nexus I would've gone with the Rezound. When ICS makes it way to the Rezound it'll be even better, but the Nexus is for me. This is the only phone that blew me away and everytime I pick it up I still get a grin on my face. Once I demo'd the Rezound and used my friend's for awhile I didn't have that, it felt too familiar. Could that change when ICS comes? Maybe, but HTC Sense will surely take away from some of the ICS experience I bet.
If companies all had agreed on putting NFC, 8mp cameras, etc on their phones then it would all be roughly the same. It's these subtle differences that can make or break the deal when it comes to choosing the phone. Many say a camera is important to them, and it has to be good, for me it's not. I'm perfectly satisfied with the 5mp in my Nexus, in fact the zero shutter lag is a huge positive for me as I've said before. Does it ever cross my mind that they could've put a better camera in the Nexus? It does, but it doesn't make me less happy with the phone. Like I said before, I'm just happy that Android is available on a variety of devices. Need a keyboard, slim profile, large screen, etc? All types of Android phones are available to fit each individual, may not be perfect, but it's pretty close I'd say.
