LauncherPro Beta (SUPER FAST & SMOOTH Launcher!)

I don't know what version of LauncherPro you're using, but is sure isn't "Super Fast" or or anything close to "Smooth". It's just a little faster than the stock Froyo launcher as things stand right now.

And while running Froyo, none of the launchers I have tried are as fast as they were on Eclair.

Still getting FCs and I sent the most recent logs to you.

I am running the following:
7 screens
LP NOT kept in memory
Multiple Widgets (Beautiful Small Home, True Calendar Agenda, Weatherbug Elite & Maps, 2 instances of Countdown, Battery Left, YouTube, Pandora, Audio Manager, and FeedR)
Memory Usage is alternating between all 3
Notification Bar is hidden

That is quite a few widgets, I'm not sure any launcher would be very quick with all that. Just my 2 cents.

I changed the memory usage to high and sped up the screens as fast as they would go and now I'm liking it more like the earlier versions. It's fast again and the screens aren't re-drawing.

No crashes so far.

Also like what you've done with the preferences.

How about an option when scrolling screens to just have it roll over like the bottom icons... so when you're at five you can scroll right to one. That would be a nice feature.

I did delete a few widgets to get more memory but I would imagine when Froyo comes and I put my stuff on the SD card memory won't be an issue anymore.

I would get rid of the Pandora Widget, the YouTube Widget, and the Maps widget. You probably don't use them that much and they are memory hogs.

You can replace them with icons...

Are your initials D.S? If so, I only got one log from you. It crashed when you long-pressed a widget to move it. Were you using the "High" setting for memory usage? That would explain the crash. A duplicate bitmap needs to be created when you drag a widget, that must have put your memory usage over the limit.

Medium memory usage setting wouldn't have crashed in that instance.
Fede,

That is me. I have taken your advice and set the memory usage to medium, and have taken other's advice and have uninstalled Countdown, removed YouTube, Pandora, I have set the WeatherBug Maps and AudioManager to updating 'Never', set the Pure Calendar Widget to update every 12 hours, and set Beautiful Widgets Small Home to update every 4 hours and unfortunately, I'm still getting force closes. I have gotten 3 in the 2 hours I've been awake today. I sent the Logs for 2 of them, and I thought I had fixed it for the third, but I'm at a complete loss.

Thing is, I had the previous setup during the 0.5.4 version of LauncherPro and I did not have any issues. Only when I upgraded to 0.6.0 did I really see the performance and stability of this launcher to take a sharp nosedive.

I think I can safely say I have found its limitations... :frown:

I had a doozy fc this morning but whatever it was affected the whole phone including the logs cos aLogCat hardly showed any errors.
The sync icon was showing so I wondered if everything was trying to sync at once. I turned off background sync (something I usually do but forgot after recent reset).

Got your logs. On the first one it looks like you were running with "Keep in memory" on, is that correct?

On the second one you ran out of memory again, it sounds like you're really pushing it to the limit. Do you have 3D drawer enabled? What phone are you using? Stock or custom ROM?

I do not have it at Keep in Memory, and have not had that activated since last week.

I do have the 3D drawer enabled. And I am running stock. As I said before, I didn't have any of these problems before 0.6.0.

Federal, you are doing a remarkable job with this launcher.

Question - which would use more memory - 5 shortcuts on the dock or 5 shortcuts on a home screen? I could put shortcuts back on the homescreen if that makes a big difference memory wise.

LP is still the best.

Fede,
Your work is still the best out there. Please continue your excellent work.

I love the fact I can install previous versions. For me the 5.4 release works fast and great on my stock Droid. I'll let you and the others have the fun with newer versions and maybe when I get a faster, more powerful phone I'll upgrade. Sometimes you have to let the hardware catch up to the software, which is what happened in the early days of Personal Computers. Eventually it flip/flops and the hardware is super robust and the software can't be made innovative enough to justify upgrading. Case in point; Microsoft Office products. Writing a memo in Word 2000 is just as productive as Word 2010.

As a PC software developer I can tell you have a real attachment to your product :), mine become an extension of my personality and I take offense when someone criticizes them :icon_evil:. Your LaunchPro work is on the "bleeding" edge as we used to say...congrats!

I think it's more of a software problem than hardware, namely, it's the Android system. The arbitrary 24mb per app limit is ridiculous, the user should be able to choose to let certain programs use more memory if they need it.

Newer phones are coming out with 500mb+ of memory and yet if an app goes over 24mb, it crashes. Makes no sense at all.
