LauncherPro Beta (SUPER FAST & SMOOTH Launcher!)

What a shame...this launcher was so awesome and fast. It's too bad that app devs can't move on to a different project once they've perfected something. Instead they feel compelled to keep tinkering until they break it. Same thing happened to xScope.

Well, I feel we're partly to blame for that. It's working great and then we see posts like, "What it needs is <fill in the blank> and it would be perfect." or "If it had the same option as <another home app> I would drop the other in an instant." The developer tries to accommodate and here we are.

It's working fine for me, although I have seen more FCs since the last update. I've gotten rid of all my other homes (except for ADW). This is another case of YMMV; what I have on my phone is different than someone else's, so I may not see a problem that others get.

Dont know if this will help or not but one thing I changed (and no force closes since doing so) is remove all the widgets and shortcuts from my htc default home.

The only thing launcherpro is missing is being able to go to work for me and do my job :icon_ banana:

Lp is working great for me, thank you. A week ago I was getting Fcs a lot. I had just updated fancy widgets right before so I figured that was going to be what was causing the problem. I uninstalled then reinstalled and have not had a problem since. In saying this because maybe some of you are having Fcs because of another app. Maybe this might help some of you. So if you just started having issues, see if there was an app you had updated before your problems with Lp.

The + signs are empty shortcut spaces on the dock.

I just re-read the long post here and am a little confused how to optimize.
Before, when I was getting lags and fcs a lot, I had 7 screens and a bunch of multimedia widgets. Since reinstall I have 5 screens with 6 widgets (clock/weather, battery, Bluetooth, wifi, silence on/off, and play /pause podcast player) all on the top of their respective screens, and the rest of the top rows are shortcuts. So, 6 widgets and 6 shortcuts on the screens, and all the shortcut spaces in the dock bar filled. No dock bar background, no 3D app drawer.
Any suggestions?

I've never had a problem with LauncherPro and I've been rockin' it since the first release. I have had the occasional slight delay in redrawing of widgets on the home screen, but never a force close or lag otherwise.

I will say that back when I used Beautiful Widgets and Fancy Widgets, I used to have frequent crashes, but that happened when I was using HelixLauncher too. Once I ditched those widgets everything was OK. I think they must use too much memory, or something.

How many screens are you guys using? I see most people are using 5 or more screens, widgets, and STILL have the 15 icon dock. Its overkill. I use two screens, accompanied by Quickdesk for my icons (making it three).

Only widget I use is the news & weather. And I dont keep apps on the homescreen outside of the googlesearch.

Very nice and clean setup. I use 5 screens, but it's because I prefer not having to ever go into the application drawer. I have a calendar widget and power control widget on my main screen, along with launchers for various IM, email, maps, etc. I have a screen dedicated to music apps (pandora, shazam, etc). A screen for utility apps (dropbox, terminal, rom manager, etc). I have a screen that currently just has news+weather and a 4x4 pure messenger widget, and the last screen is just games (so I can hand my phone to somebody that wants to play without having to explain which programs are games and which ones are not to be touched)

What power control widget are you using? I notice that it has a few extra options...

Well the widget I'm using is called "SwitchPro" widget. If im not mistaken you said you use 5 screens right? I've noticed anything over 4 screens on launchpro makes it freeze up. I used ot have an issue with getting a black box on the top left which was supposed to be a screen preview but never loaded. That or the screen previews would be pitch black sometimes, then clear the rest.

Couple apps I suggest for you:

QuickDesk-Put your widgets, and/or shortcuts on this screen. Basically you press home twice and it'll popup to a screen. Good for if you're in the middle of an application and need to check a sports score, calendar (etc)

Happy Hours- Because its thirsty thursday. and they tell you ALL the happy hours and bar specials in your location. Win/Win :icon_ banana:
JuicePlotter: WAY better than Battery Left. WAY better. shows how long it'll charge for, etc, etc. More accurate.

Quick Settings: all in one one settings app for those who dont like widgets.

Socialite; Facebook/twitter widget is decent. I like when I use more than 3 screens.

LauncherPro: My settings: two screens, using quickdesk, 3d App drawer to access my apps faster. it'd be nice if you could more apps in the drawer. cause I hate going from "talk" to "gmail" to "messages" sometimes. Like if you could organize the top 15 you use the most in the app drawer. 2.3, maybe?

also...take FULL advantage of the "Folders". What I used to do was use one line for apps. Drop your most used apps in them. label them: Google (google apps), Productivity (calendar, etc), and games). use the four space for an app (for me it was Camera)

YES! I see that too. I usually only see it when switching landscape to portrait, and when I pop the keyboard out and back in again, it fixes itself. I also notice that at the same time it often rotates my dock for me (very NOT helpful, as I only have the first section filled in)

I just checked that app out the other day when I saw it mentioned on droidlife (I think it was droidlife - might have been xda). I found that it often fell out of memory, so I would have to wait for it to load widgets. It was better to just hit home instead.

Interesting. I use BatteryGraph, but I may give this one a try.

I have this installed, but I caught it force-closing a few times so I booted it. Maybe I'll give it another try.

Maybe I will pare down to 2-3 screens and see if it is better at staying in memory. I wish the droid had more memory, this is kind of silly having to jump through so many hoops for such simple things. Hopefully the DroidX fixes that (not that I'll be getting one anytime soon)

I've had that one black box thing to with 5 screens; now gone back to 3 plus Quick Desk. Folder Organizer for the folder thing; you can also give the folders custom icons and also pick other icons for apps.
I sort of miss my all-widget multimedia screen I had with more screens but the widgets were eating battery and memory and I didn't use them enough to deal with that. I'd used Quick Settings before but just hadn't reinstalled after reset; besides I had the W&T widgets and Dazzle by then. But Quick Settings is a good thing to use with Quick Desk and has more options than widgets.
Thanks for the ideas. :-)
