LauncherPro Beta (SUPER FAST & SMOOTH Launcher!)

Yeah, I'm gonna root too; I have to do a reinstall on my PC and so I'll see if Froyo is out or not by the time I'm done with that. Just in case I hit a snag I don't want my PC and my phone down at the same time.

The only real issue I have seen is that sometimes it takes as much as five seconds to go to my home screen when I press the home button.

Ditto man! :(
Since I mentioned the above issue, let me add this: I decided to OC my rooted droid to 800 mhz and the lag is GONE.
I had my Droid rooted at 800mhz and I would still get lag with launcherpro. I was getting a bunch of FCs with it too. I have know removed it and am back to the stock with Froyo. Will check out launcherPro or trying to an earlier version if it later.

You can change the speed settings too ... making it really fly.

Let me get this straight. You are on another screen other than Home (I'm guessing screen #3 because you have 5 screens) and when you press Home it brings up a choice of 5 screens, is that correct? If so, then it's the second setting in Behavior (after going to the Menu and Preferences).

No, I get that setting, and have it disabled.

I'm talking about when you're already on your default "Home" screen, and you hit home again. On the stock, it basically does nothing - and that's what I'd like it to do here. I like almost everything about this app, but this is one feature I could do without. As I said, there are times where I double-tap or accidentally hit home when I'm already on the default, and it brings up the switcher (which I then have to hit back to close out of). I'd prefer it to do nothing. It's a little bit of a nit, but would love if this was selectable...

Nope, you can't disable that feature.

I would kill for the option to disable this. Double-tapping home screen is almost a subconscious action for me when I unlock the phone, almost like touching my back pocket when I stand up to make sure my wallet is still there. It's annoying to have to the select the home screen from the thumbnails.

Still the best launcher by a mile and I do appreciate all the work that has gone into it.

I cut my screens from 5 to 4. I actually am using the same number of widgets, just on one fewer screen. All of the redraw problems have stopped. I guess 5 was just one too many.

i dont understand why so many use 800 mhz.. if your willing to root and OC why dont you just get the fastest (or maybe even at least 1 ghz i know some phones have issues after 1.1ghz)

i have been running the highest kernal as fast as they been shooting them out and never once had an issue... or lag! haha

but seriously for those who are skurrd about the warranty being void if something happens lemme fill you in on some facts..

if your phone boots to the "M" you will always have capability to wipe your data to scratch as long as you know how to get in the recovery.. (which is googled fairly easy) SP Recovery preferred (obviously if your rooted you will have this eventually) but stock works as well to wipe your data.

If your phone doesn't boot no matter what the issue is hardware or not and you bring it to the store and show them it doesnt work they give you a new one right then and there they dont send it to a factory to test for tampering and if they do it doesn't reflect you getting a new phone.. not speculation either ive already seen it happen several times.

so go nuts just make sure you read, if your not willing to read or your comprehension sucks really bad you shouldn't be rooting. i for one didnt know what a smart phone was til november '09 and i can do anything and everything to this droid just because i invested the time to learn it certainly wasnt easy as pie but worth it in the end.

sorry for the long off topic.. just my 2 cents

EDIT: Just so i clear this up, this post was intended for people who have a droid or better rooted. If you have anything else this wasnt intended for you.

I can tell you I almost always run at 800MHz.

First, my Droid is my ONLY phone, it has to be up and running. 1.0GHz has issues for me, I get random shutdowns I get lots of FCs ..... the Droid is just occasionally unstable with most of these custom ROMs, although Sapphire seemed to be fine at 1.0.

Second, I need my phone to be usable all freaking day. Away from a charger, out in the field, 3 hours of phone calls, web surfing, mp3 playing, lots of e-mail. 125 - 800 usually gets me there, some times I even have to clock down further. My business needs me to have a running phone all day, and while 1.0 GHz is fun especially for some games, I need a phone to last me all day. My employer needs me to be reachable all day.

Some of us actually depend on these devices for our lively hoods, they are not just toys.

.

Just because your phone runs great at 1Ghz or higher does not mean mine or everyone else's can. Mine is set for 800Mhz because that is where I like it. Can I over clock it faster? Sure I could, but really I am not running anything intensive so why bother. I also need the battery to last most of the day and with 800Mhz I get good battery optimization with it and the apps/widgets I am using. Rooting was something I wasn't planning on doing, but ended up doing when I put Froyo on. The Overclock is just a extra for me as far as I am concerned. Plus this phone needs to last me until my NE2 is up and that is still aways out.

Brining back this back into subject. Which LauncherPRO works best with Froyo? I believe I had the latest version of LP when I was getting the FCs and the slow response going back to home (I had the stay in memory option checked also). I think LP is a great home app and love the options with it. I miss not having it right now, but running stock home from Froyo and I get no lag or FCs with it.

I hear you guys with the whole overclocking thing but if you need your phone for business then why not have a car charger? But yeah I am clocked at 1 ghz and love our. I hasn't a charger at work, at home, and in my car problem solved lol

I think you missed a huge point up there. My phone reboots and FCs all the freaking time at 1GHz except with Sapphire where it appears to be stable. What good is a car charger when my phone won't run for more than 10 minutes before a reboot or dialer FCs?????????

There are 1.25 and 1.3 GHz kernels out there. Why don't you run them instead of the slow 1.0 you are running???

I think people forget these chips were designed for 600MHz and any and all overclocking is a bonus. Honestly if someone needs to overclock to 1.0 GHz for Launcher Pro to be snappy and responsive then the issue isn't with the kernel it's with the program (not meant to be an offense Fede, I love the 0.5.x releases). But people saying that overclocking to 1.0GHz solves the issue are really missing the point. Non rooted people are running at 550MHz (Moto's underclocked kernel speed).

i went back to lp 5.3

May I ask why?

I kept getting so much lag especially when awaking my device. I tried on the recent .62 version removing all my dock icons but the original and follow the settings you laid out on your homepage. The final issue was that whwn I would go into my app drawer all my apps would be bunched up on top of each other and I would have to wait for few seconds for the app drawer to resort my apps. At first it was rare, then it was starting to happen on a constant basis. .53 seems to handle it all smooth and fast. I have zero lag using that version.
