Lenovo and Motorola Announce the Moto Z and Moto Z Force (with Droid Editions!)

motorola is slowly but surely digging their own grave
USB-C and Lightning headphones aren't great news for everyone

or maybe it's a good thing. i don't know what to think about it. i don't remember the last time i did use a headphone jack.
And no where in that article did I see him mention that the necessary adapter he so frequently spoke of is included with these new phones, no need to buy one. Personally, I don't see them digging a grave, but that's just my opinion. I do agree that it's been about 2 years since I plugged in wired headphones to any of my phones, everything I own is Bluetooth.

I can't believe that Verizon gets them first as the 2016 Droid lineup; didn't see that coming. Less than 12 months after the Turbo 2 was released. Cool news for Droid fans.

While I feel the same way, give me the unlocked version of the Z force at 64 GB and I'll stay with Moto. Question is do I get this as my backup device versus the Note 7 Edge...[emoji33]

The unlocked will be available soon enough. My guess is Verizon spent money on R & D for an opportunity to have it first for a month or two.

According to a tweet I saw earlier from DroidLife, the unlocked version will be GSM only...

anybody know if it will have wireless charging?
It's not listed on the official website, so I'm guessing no. It makes sense though, the Moto Mod packs snap on the back with no visible connectors. So all of that connectivity must be through NFC, or some other wireless tech. I would imagine that wireless charging and the Moto Mod technology are not compatible.

I just remembered that during the press conference, he said the Moto Mod battery pack could be charged wirelessly. So maybe the phone itself cannot, but if the battery pack Mod is attached the whole thing can be put on a wireless charger and charged?

Strange nobody mentioned lack of micro SD card support, however I suppose there will be a plethora of "back"up (pun intended) mods that will arrive including removable card support for example.

Since it's a full stainless steel back, built in wireless charging is impossible. I'm quite confident however that along with the Moto Mod batteries, even the slim back covers will come with coils.

One of the Biggest Concerns I've always had Especially with VZW is taking FOREVER to get Major Updates. my Droid Turbo unfortunately still has not seen Marshmallow yet you are Seeing the Note 4 getting it now and the Droid Turbo was 1 Month Newer. Downside of Carrier Specific Devices I guess.

I agree, that is the only downside to owning a Droid branded device. We have to wait for Verizon to authorize any updates.

Reading your post made me think of something & I'm curious to know your thoughts @FoxKat . EDIT: Disregard my previous post about no visible connectors. I saw more detailed pics this morning and realized there are physical connectors at the bottom of the phone for these Moto Mods; so that's how they connect.

I do agree with you though Fox; I can see how the snap on back plates could incorporate a wireless charging coil.
