Making it clear on X2 audio issues and GB...

I might go back to my rooted Froyo because I never had an issue with that and the music stuttering. Now even with the rooted Gingerbread, I get a lot of stuttering and it's frustrating. I used to be able to play my pocket legends or browse without any issues and now it's just constantly stuttering, I was so close to throwing this phone against the wall yesterday..haha.

Official Response from Verizon.

“This happens on my phone too which is running Gingerbread. This is a known issue with Gingerbread. There’s a software update in the works to fix this.”

I explained that my Droid X did not have this problem nor did the Incredible that I had been using for the past few weeks. They said “that’s because the Incredible is running froyo.”

I asked why I was not told that there was an audio playback issue with the phone they sold it to me 2 days ago and they said it’s because “Gingerbread just came out.”

Finally I asked them to replace my phone which was 2 days old and defective and they said “there was nothing they could do for me because there is a software update in the works and any replacement phone will also be running Gingerbread and have the same issues”

They recommended I flash back to froyo which does not have the issue. I know for fact this is not true because I did do a full SBF back to froyo using the official Verizon signed SBF file and still had the issue.

So, this leaves a lot of unanswered questions:

How come if there is a software update in the works has there been no real acknowledgement that there’s an issue from Verizon or Motorola?

If this affects all Gingerbread phones how come there are so many users saying they do not have any issues with audio playback on their devices?

Has anyone else addressed Verizon directly about this issue and gotten a similar response?

You would think a software update to patch a known issue with audio playback on the Droid X2 would be fairly big news.

slacka, that makes no sense at all. This issue was very well documented at least on these forums long before GB came out. I'm surprised that a Verizon employee would give you such a line of BS. Actually, I guess I'm not surprised. :icon_evil:

Apparently, increasing the vm heap size is a remedy for the stutter, but you have to be rooted of course.

Could you point to some sources please? If you are ultimately talking about supercharging, I can assure you, it is not.

I am so sick of hearing "If you just root your phone and blah blah blah". Seriously, screw that. First off, I shouldn't HAVE to root the damn thing to get it to function as designed and secondly, I have tried it ALL! I have seen some temporary improvement with rooting, but by the end of a second day of listening to music, the old problems crop up again.

Now that I have tried GB and still no resolution, I'll explore the next set of options. It will not involve another Motorola product. The real shame about this was I loved my X, even though I warrantied my first one for phantom button pushes (my second one was rock solid and is still in service with my wife). I wanted to like the X2, I really really wanted to. I want to support an American company like Motorola, but not when they pull this crap.

And I like this thread where we can all go and be outcasts for being haters.

I hate. I hate HARD. :icon_evil:

//there, I said it. and yes, it was somewhat cathartic.

Thanks for the vid, it demos exactly what I see on my system. Yes, it happened with Froyo. Yes, it happened after rooting/supercharging/freezing bloat/etc. Yes, it happens after the official GB OTA update.

The VZW rep is probably just reading from a script and has no clue. Call back and talk to someone else.

Why this isn't bigger news, I have no idea. The overheating issue got some media, and when the X2 first came out one or two reviews mentioned the video stutters, but there have been crickets in the media over this issue. I think the fact of the matter is, sites that are reviewing phones really do not much more than open up the box, fire it up, spend an hour or so screwing with it, then cut and paste off the press release. They don't use them as their primary phone for a week or so before they write their review. If they did, maybe this issue would have surfaced earlier.

I like how you guys assume it's a "backburner issue". Have you ever considered that maybe it's a difficult problem to solve and they haven't figured out a solution yet? Just because a fix isnt out yet doesn't mean it's a "backburner issue" for them.

I think the main complaint that most of us have is that there has been no acknowledgement from moto or verizon that an issue even exists. The response quoted above from verizon is the only mention I've heard and its so full of bs, I don't trust it.

Both esox and Gr8_Scott and many others, I'm so glad we're on the same page here. I seriously feel the same as you. I wanted to like this phone so bad. But in my case, I had switched from an Inc2 to the X2 because I'm a heavy user (thus wasting my 14 day return) and thought the dual core would be a good trade off. One of the worst tech decisions I've ever made. I loved the Inc2 and didn't have a single problem. Shame...

I like how you assume we haven't considered something so obvious, especially after almost all of us have stated we literally tried everything. I can also only assume you didn't read the thread aside from page 1. Or at least skimmed it (more likely).

I don't really care how difficult it is to fix, if EITHER Moto or VW simply said "we are aware of the issue and are working to resolve it," I might be able to suck it up and wait for the next patch. However, as I've said like 10 times on this board, if I hadn't complained to both companies twice already about the same issue, only to discover people are STILL calling in with the issue and STILL being told "they haven't heard of anything like this" and nonsense like "well GB should have come on the phone," then maybe this thread wouldn't have been made. Or at least worded differently.

Seriously, that's what pisses me off the most. This is totally a back burner issue to them. Only place you'll find mention of it is on forums. No review, no tech repair, no sales person would dare acknowledge it. I've worked for the man, and more likely than not they are forced to say we haven't heard of this issue. If you don't see a problem with that, then you should submit a resume to Verizon or Motorola.

Here's something that I don't understand: I just watched an hour of a movie on Netflix. Not a pop. Not a skip. Not a wiggle. The audio and video were both clear with no buffering or anything. If this device can stream video over wifi with that level of quality (not HD but still...), surely it's capable of streaming MP3s stored locally without all of the skips?

I had dinner with my friend who works in the Verizon Business Services Channel. He told me that he was looking through their database of known issues or something like that and noticed that there appears to be another software update in the works for the Droid X2. He didn't really remember much beyond that because he isn't using a DX2 and didn't know the details of the issues of this phone. So it will be interesting to see if something like that comes up soon or if anyone else has details to add to this rumor.

I can't really give to much info but I do KNOW it is in the works and has been for a cpl weeks now. And threads like this are why so good job to the op making the man listen lol plus there are some other ppl here that have a large influence on what happens and you all have probably talked to them lol. So we got a list of things to be fixed and its in the works with things added every day

I can corroborate this story -on 2 different occasions in the past 3 days I've had a Verizon rep. tell me a software update is in the works. Since my DX2 was only 5 days old, I returned it for a DINC2. I'll be damned If I'm gonna let my 14 day return period expire while blindly waiting for an elusive update that may or may not fix this issue. To be clear, this issue affected my phone out of the box running Froyo and with the GB OTA. There are loads of people saying their DX2 does not have this issue at all. All I know is my co-worker and I both got the DX2 with the VZ POGO deal and they both have this issue. Is this just affecting a newer batch of DX2's or are some users so complacent that they tolerate this poor performance?. Beats me. All I know is that this DINC2 kicks my DX2's ass all around. Even with the single core CPU on ther DINC2, the 768MB of RAM makes it scream. Maybe Moto should have shipped the DX2 with more memory? I believe a great deal of this issue is directly related to RAM and how the DX2 manages RAM. I can't tell you how many times I looked at "Running Services" on my DX2 only to find it was less than 50MB free!! The DINC2 has never dropped below 200MB free. Such a pity, my 1st gen DX was a dream.

Sorry, it really dosent matter if you "dont really care how difficult it is to fix". It don't work that way. Fixes take time.

Also what does "everyone in this thread has tried everything LOOKS LIKE YOU DIDNT READ THE THREAD DURR" have to do with anything I said? It's not like I called all you guys liars or said this wasnt a real problem and everyone was crazy. I get the skipping and popping too and it sucks, especially because my OG Droid with only 256mb of RAM never had this problem. I realize that you can't just go "I'm mad Moto make a fix nowwwwwwwwww" and stamp my feet and have a fix in 2 weeks time. Things take time to track down and properly fix.

After all, you don't want them to fix the sound bug and introduce 5 other bugs because they didn't take the proper amount of time to test it do you?

Last thing: yes an official acknowledgment from Moto that they're aware of this issue would be nice. I've been looking on the official moto forums from time to time but i've yet to see one of them say anything :(

Actually guys look what I found?

That's definitely encouraging.

Yes it is. Hopefully we'll hear more about a timeframe soon. My iPod just broke so im stuck with just my phone until my birthday in november most likely. Good thing the phone actually sounds pretty good, it must have a better soundchip than my old Droid 1 because when the music isn't popping/skipping, it sounds much better (not as "flat" sounding as my Droid 1).
