MattyP's .215 Leak Classroom

So far I haven't noticed any differences in .215. Battery life is still the same and no change with battery life. I have to try the battery training again though and see if it makes a difference. I'm at 10% battery on 13 1/2 hours. I'm constantly on 4G so I guess that sucks the battery life down faster. I can't compare battery life to pre ICS because I got 4G a few days after the update.

I never had any data issues with 4G coming and going. I do lose 4G when I go into work at one of my jobs but never lose 3G.

At my other job I lose it after I get thru the security(I work at a distribution center). I have to go back outside when I get thru security before I go into the warehouse. It's weird. 4G in the parking lot but not on the road in front of the warehouse.

I haven't really seen many release notes about what the .215 update was supposed to do. I read people saying they got .215 as an OTA update but I think they were in other countries. All I've read is that there were slight changes to the messaging app and a few others to help with battery life

Did you change the network mode after upgrading to .215?
System settings>>more>>network mode.
The default is global, and is known to be a battery killer.

I downloaded it into my download folder but cannot copy it to the root. I keep getting message of read only file system. Is this because I m using "Astro"?
Do I have to move it thru computer connection to SD card?
I can copy it to "/mnt/sdcard"..... Is this correct spot?

Oops, I fell asleep. Have you figured this out yet? Move it to your external SD card. Make sure it is not in a folder but on the root of the external sd card. Most file manager programs show the external card as sdcard-ext. My Files shows it as SD card.

Hi, I have a couple questions about this. Was reading the Battery Life thread and ran across this thread. Battery life on my Maxx seems pretty good, like most not what it was on GB, but still better than any other Droid I've had (OG, X, Bionic). I want to do the FDR and reinstall apps, etc., however, thinking about putting 215 on since everyone loves it. My questions are:

1. if 215 is NOT the update we get from VZ, will we have to FXZ back to 211 to get the "official" update whatever that may be?

2. if 215 is the official update, and we install this will we still be on the upgrade path?

3. what's the confidence level of the guru's that 215 will be the official update?

If I install this, of course I'll do an FDR, before and after it and just don't want to do it again when the "official" comes out.

Thanks for any insight.

Answers:

1. Speculation is that we should be able to get the official OTA update as we normally would. But if not, there is already a way to get back to stock so that we can.
2. Yes, but again we will be able to install the official update to make sure we stay on the upgrade path. (Which is my plan).

3. It is hard to know for sure. My opinion is that the official upgrade will be 216 because the 215 leak has been out for awhile and they haven't officially released it yet... so they must be working on it to make it even better. That is also my hope.

4. Doing another fdr should not be necessary because it is not a major upgrade like going from GB to ICS was. Myself, I will do an fdr only because I like to start out with a clean palette and I have a routine I use when doing an fdr that seems fairly easy to me.

Did a factory reset as part of update.
Doesn't Market (or now Google Play) automatically restore your apps, like it used to?
I didn't think to do a backup (DOH), because in previous roots Market always put my apps back.

..

You can set it to automatically add your apps back but I actually prefer to do it manually because I discover so many apps I no longer use.

To add them back, go to play store, settings, my apps. Scroll the page to the left and the list of all the apps you have ever installed are listed. Go through and install the ones you want to keep and ignore the rest.

Tis, you are doing such a great job of holding down the fort when I'm not here ... I spent the morning getting my car fixed ... :icon_rolleyes:

Thank you! :)

To have them automatically backup and restore, go to your phones settings ---> privacy ---> check backup my data and automatic restore.

It may not work for this fdr but will keep things backed up for the next one. What I do is keep those checked, then just before I do an fdr, I un-check them. After the fdr, I go back to re-check them so when I install the apps individual it will restore my settings.

Thanks Matty! I got your back... sort of, lol! Where I can anyway... but you still have to pick up where I can't. :-)

Edit: Oh, how is the new car treating you?

The car is treating me ok ... just minor problems keep popping up. I went to clean the wheel covers and when I took them off I discovered a broken wheel stud and missing lugnut, so I took it and got the wheel stud replaced and all 4 tires balanced and new lugnuts all the way around. Other than a few minor issues it's pretty good. But then again it's a used car, there is bound to be some issues. At least I don't have to worry about getting pulled now for illegal window tint since I took it off ... :icon_rolleyes:

Thanks for the reply, so:

1. if we can't take the OTA, the process is FXZ back to 211, correct?

2. you're saying even if 215 is the official update, you'll FXZ back to 211 and install the official "official" update from VZ? If so, how? doing it OTA?

Edit: really like how laid back and non-militant you guys are on this thread, unlike some people who get all bent-out-of-shape over minor stuff, : )

The default is global, and is known to be a battery killer.

It's set to LTE/CDMA. I have email set to manually check for new messages as well. I mainly just do web surfing and checking Facebook with my maxx and not many phone calls. Since my new billing cycle on the 3rd, I've used only 33 minutes. That counts mobile to mobile and weekend and nights.

Thanks for the kudos rqbaljh. We are a great community and we all find we can use some help or info at some time or another. I learn something new on here everyday. Now onto your questions:

1. I am not 100% what the process was that FoxKat used to go to stock from 215, but I know he did and was successful. When the time comes, I will follow his steps here, starting at post #48... http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-razr-razr-maxx-ics-discussion/216737-ics-leak-215-a-5.html

2. Yes, if I am not able to do it from 215, I will go back to stock 211 and install OTA, even if it is still only a 215 update (because I'm thinking with as much time as they've had it, there's bound to be some tweaks that my 215 leak does not have).

Ok, thanks for the info. In that other thread you mentioned (not sure why there's multiple 215 leak threads, but ok), Foxkat said to use the RSD file (the xml.zip) to get back to 211, you have to unzip it, is that correct????

I'm thinking I'm going to FDR on my stock 211, reinstall apps manually, see ho wthat goes a few days, then probably do this 215 leak. Everything I've been reading is better 4g connectivity and better battery life. And Foxkat RSD'd back to 211 and all his apps stayed!!! That's amazing.

FoxKat (or anyone in the know), to use RSD to FXZ back to 211, I have to unzip the file? I thought we normally flashed zip files?
