Bump, OP any word? Did you go for it? If you did and you're not happy I'll trade you (my Droid is in great condition, just really want the Desire).
Ah, nothing like trying to compare things w/o research... first off the Scorpion application processor has an ARM architecture so there will be little if any difference in application response (actually very likely the Desire will be faster given the default clock speed and HTC's history of OS refinements). In addition the Snapdragon doesn't need a dedicated graphics processor as it's graphics capabilities (including decoding HD video) are already handled internally by the processor at a much higher rate than even the Droids 'dedicated' graphics processor. The Snapdragons continuously (in current devices) score higher in graphic benchmarks than the Droid (OC'd or not).
Droid = OMAP Cortex A-8 processor w/ dedicated GPU which can be OC'd if rooted.
Desire = 768 Mhz Snaprdragon w/ no dedicated GPU and is unknown whether or not can be rooted.
