Motorola Droid Bionic Joins the Droid Family!

It will be blocked down enough that nobody will ever get into it :)

Get used to the encrypted bootloaders, even HTC is heading that way.

Someone laughed it off when I said it before, but you can blame all the tetherers abuse for your device being locked down. No way the cell manufacturers would waste their money on encryption unless it was at the carriers behest. The carriers want to can illegal tethering before they move to 4g. I can't blame them either, bandwidth ain't free, and if they don't do something to stop tethering we will all be paying outrageous rates to cover their bandwidth costs....

All you have to have is root to tether though and so far no manufacturer has stopped that.

Its coming.

I must say, in response to the "droid fiasco" post...
The Droid is honestly a better device to me than the Thunderbolt. So whatever the "droid fiasco" was, I hope it happens again!

Agreed, fiasco implies something awful, when we all know that the D1 was total WIN.

I owned the D1 until last week. I loved the device, but I do think everyone has short term memory loss. At the moment I am having trouble remembering all of the issues but I remember they were numerous and voice qulaity was at the top of the list. Call quality was really bad at the beginning. I am going back through old threads. This may refresh your memories. Same stuff happens anytime a new device hits. I like my TB and will at least be happy until my next upgrade, but I only signed a 1 year deal also. Also remember subscribership of an y androide device was only beggining as well as the number of folks on android forums.

When someone says fiasco, that implies whatever major problem it had was ongoing, never fixed.

I said in another post, either mine was a newer batch, I rooted or Moto did an update but my problem went away quick and never came back.

Now if you would say Galaxy S line and GPS fiasco.... I can understand that.

I never had any problems with my Droid. It's the best phone I've ever had.

Oh sorry for not elaborating. The Droid 1 hasn't received an update in over a year, and is a flagship phone that really saved Motorola. They didn't support it post-release, while phones made 1-2 years prior are now running on the same version of Android as the Droid 1.

The only thing that saved the Droid are 3rd-party coders like Pete who, as a part time coder, is able to beat Motorola. It really shows how much interest Motorola has in supporting their devices.

By the way, most people sign into a 2-year contract. 4 months of software support is offensive. Apple actually has most of their phones running their latest version of iOS, which makes it much more appealing. But if I stick with Android I'd probably go Nexus or HTC since they actually support their devices. Motorola has a record of this type of behavior.

Actually the Droid just received an update for the text messaging problem that was plaguing phones. Pete nor any of the other developers had anything to do with the success of the Droid. Most people don't even root their phones, let alone put custom roms on them. Moto hasn't needed to put out anymore updates for the Droid because in all honesty, the Droid can't handle GB stock. You can't really get mad about it being on 2.2 for a long time if that's the newest OS version. I dislike Moto for some of their practices just as much as the next guy who loves custom roms, but that's not a reason to spew nonsense. You have to give credit where credit is due and the OG Droid was (and still is) a great device.

Seriously!!! If you want a phone that's not supported, try a samsung.

Yeah, I'm still not sure I would buy another Motorola made phone myself, but I just don't see where you have been. The Droid is even running a newer version of android than most phones out there. Most are still on 2.1 or 2.2.1. The Droid just got an update to 2.2.2. Only 2 devices have a newer version, the Nexus 1 and the Nexus S. Now, the Droid is starting to reach the end of it's life because of hardware limitations, so I doubt it will actually get another MAJOR update, but the fact it got an update several phones haven't received says a lot.
