Motorola Droid Bionic Joins the Droid Family!

Oh sorry for not elaborating. The Droid 1 hasn't received an update in over a year, and is a flagship phone that really saved Motorola. They didn't support it post-release, while phones made 1-2 years prior are now running on the same version of Android as the Droid 1.

The only thing that saved the Droid are 3rd-party coders like Pete who, as a part time coder, is able to beat Motorola. It really shows how much interest Motorola has in supporting their devices.

By the way, most people sign into a 2-year contract. 4 months of software support is offensive. Apple actually has most of their phones running their latest version of iOS, which makes it much more appealing. But if I stick with Android I'd probably go Nexus or HTC since they actually support their devices. Motorola has a record of this type of behavior.

Yeah, I'm still not sure I would buy another Motorola made phone myself, but I just don't see where you have been. The Droid is even running a newer version of android than most phones out there. Most are still on 2.1 or 2.2.1. The Droid just got an update to 2.2.2. Only 2 devices have a newer version, the Nexus 1 and the Nexus S. Now, the Droid is starting to reach the end of it's life because of hardware limitations, so I doubt it will actually get another MAJOR update, but the fact it got an update several phones haven't received says a lot.

He's just continuing his babble about some non-existent Droid fiasco. It got a lot of laughs a couple of pages back.

Yeah, they update the phones to the new OS... then get SUED cuz the new ios is only designed for the new phone and they push an ota BEFORE optimizing it for the older devices so they all perform like GARBAGE... apple can't optimize for what? 2-3 different phones? Whereas these android companies are expected to release all all (20?) Of their phones? I think if you compare them side-by-side, they aren't doing too bad... I do agree they need to kick it up a notch... but if you want to compare like that, then apple is leagues behind... and that's not even mentioning how much more often android OS seems to be getting updates nowadays :O

A valid point

Hey! Kids. FOCUS. We can sit here and speculate whether or not it will have a bootloader or be rootable, or what the specs might be, or worst yet - what phone you might choose in the future if the Bionic does or doesn't have a particular feature - IT DOESN'T MATTER! The only fact we need to know is WHEN it is coming out. Only when it is actually out will we know what it has and what it should have had. Until then all other discussion is pointless no matter what the so called "insiders" say. If you followed the lunacy preceding the outing of the HTC Thunderbolt you would have to conclude that the "insiders" are worse than clueless. Flipping a coin would be just as reliable. My only question is, "When is it coming out and what will the initial users report in the first 30 days?" Thank you and HAND.

Not all "insiders" are worse than clueless. Based on last year there are some folks that are considered insiders that so far are reliable with their inside info.

Im anxiously awaiting its release, but i'm a little disappointed at the lack of a pre-installed SD card. Save $20 vs the TB but shell out an extra $60 for a micro sd? Come on Moto! at least throw us a 16gb card! please?

Real rumors!

A couple of sites out there have issued "unconfirmed" rumors that the Bionic will be born on April 21, 2011 and that it will go for $149. on Amazon with the usual commitment. I thought I saw elsewhere that the SD card will be 2GB and not 16 or 32, saving Moto hundreds of pennies. Why April 21? Why $149? Why the small SD card? Why is hip-hop considered art? All will be revealed, except the last one. Let the rumors fly!

I don't really care about that.. one can always save up for a higher class/faster card because they usually put mid to slower class cards in there anyways. If it cuts money pff the price of the device all the better. It's not like they give you 500gas of storage for all your music and videos or anything. $249 is ridiculousfor he thunderbolt, which honestly I considera downgrade to the droid x.. I'm returning it and waiting for the Droid Bionic.

What sites?

Link?

rumor site

If you go to technology.gather.com there is a link to 3anime.com. From what I understand God only communicates through 3anime.com. I could be wrong. I am glad you didn't ask what credence I give to this information. The answer might have been "very little". But I could have been wrong.

Sounds great. 149 sounds kinda low for this phone though. I would expect it to be at least 200. I mean the TB came out at 250 and its basically just a clone of a 6 month old Sprint phone for crying out loud. I dont see any way the Bionic comes out for less then the TB, but we can all wish right.

I dont really care too much about a small card. I have an 8 gig from my BB that will do fine for me for now. You can always upgrade the card anyway. I mean if they would include a larger card you can almost assure it will be the cheapest possible one they could get anyway, and everyone would want to upgrade it anyway. So why not save some money, put a small card in there and let the users put whatever card they like in there. Most people probally have larger cards anyway.

"Basically" a clone, sure. But the added ram vs 512 MB, 2nd generation processor versus, and LTE 4G radio vs WiMax 4G make all the difference. Plus its new, so of course its expensive as hell.

Forgive me but where did you see no SD card?

Motorola media center shows it can support up to 32gb expansion cards, not that it will be supplied. Usually when it comes pre-installed, they make it a point to boast about it. Especially 32gb worth. I have my 16gb leftover from my D1 but that's turning into my spare mp3 player when the bionic drops.

Maybe part of the high price for the TB was the 32gb card. Those are pretty expensive so the only thing I could think of if the Bionic comes out at that $149 price is because it's gonna have such a small sd card.
