Motorola Droid + Froyo = A Speed Demon

From what I gather the current release of Froyo is a "release candidate" for beta testing. Looking forward to the official release. I'll be ready to pounce on a rooted version of Froyo rather than waiting for Verizon to push the non-rooted version OTA when they're good and ready to stop sitting on their hands.

** my sister is getting her Droid Saturday dancedroid **

Tell her to wait to get the Xtreme or Droid 2

What will be the method I'll use to up to 2.2? Just the update.zip copied to the root of the card???

TIA

Most likely... If you're using sprecovery, change to update.zip if necessary, otherwise with CM, no need to change the name, just install the zip and presto! FROYO!!

Just update.zip ... gotta wipe data/cache, as usual

I was told several times by Miami that you did NOT need to root to install this.

What do you guys say?

good for wipe..i messed something up somewere late last night/eary this morning, and too annoyed to fix it, and decided to just wait for this to come out.

i was thinking of unrooting to test that out, but i wont be near a pc if i needed to rsd flash the sp recovery just incase it didnt work.if i see one of my friends later, ill steal his phone and try it since he wont let me root it since he thinks im going to brick it on him to get back at him for bricking my storm a while back lol

its an update.zip file, so you have to run it in sprecovery (or something else?) and i think that requires root to get.. i genuinely am not sure, i haven't had a stock droid since november, but i think any custom recovery image is a rooted only thing.. right?

my understanding is that you WILL need rsd to get back to anything else from this.. i'm sure there will be all sorts of details here in a few minutes.

Someone mentioned it was a release candidate for testing a few pages back. If its an actual release candidate and not a custom ROM then u shouldnt need root to install this.

sneaky sneaky where they put it, but i bet this sparks one of the highest online user counts this forum has seen for a while

Should've backed up earlier... duh

AHHH!!!! Titanium backup movin too slow for my tastes right now!!! Can't wait to get this nandroid on my Droid!!!

Congrats on your accomplishments to all involved!

While I won't yet root to do this, I'm envious of those enjoying Froyo even without wifi hehehehe ....

We'll get it yet. I'd like to believe if they can whip up a clockwork/sprecovery version, someone should be able to get it into a update.zip for the rest of us right? Or is that a pipe dream? :)
