Motorola Droid Pro

After being underwhelmed by the X today, I'm honestly looking forward to this phone and the Fascinate even more. I'll have an upgrade available on December 26.

I'm also quite interested in this phone and the Fascinate. The Droid X almost seems like a downgrade from my Droid since you cant root it or anything.

From everything floating about on the internet all future handsets will have the same "protections" that the Droid X has. That means the Droid 2 and the Droid Pro, etc... Go for the Fascinate if you need a new toy now or wait and see what HTC drops towards year end.

I'm eligible to upgrade late August. I'm torn between upgrading right away to the X, which is what I initially planned, or holding off for the Pro. Hopefully we'll get some more confirmation on specs and a definite release date (or at least month) before I make my decision. If the phone won't be released before the end of this year I would get the X, but I feel like I might be better off if I wait..

You abandoning the pro darkseider? I am waiting for it but I'm afraid I don't have much of a choice lol. I'd prefer not to go htc and I'm a little unsure about samsung's build quality. I've heard great things about their hummingbird processors thoug. I read that it best the snapdragon and ti omap from.some benchmarking tests. Still think snapdragons are over rated lol.

maybe i'm just rationalizing because i'm not eligible to upgrade yet, but i'm thinking this might be THE phone. i'm gonna wait for it, and hopefully it will live up to the rumors!

altho, i'm not due for an upgrade from my D1 until 8/11 - given that they're phasing out the D1, i wonder if they'll offer an early upgrade for the Pro, like they did for the X???

Samsung built quality isn't too bad. I had the Samsung Omnia. I think that was their first introduction of the TouchWiz UI. They have now improved on it and it is the version 3.0 of it.

Motorola and their locked bootloader have taken the wind out of my 'Droid Pro' sails.

Well hopefully by then the Droid X and Droid 2 bootloaders will have been cracked so it won't be a long process but who knows. I prob wont go to the Droid Pro until the phone has been rooted and runs custom roms and kernals. I wanna overclock to 2.5ghz lol

Been almost 9 months and the Milestone boot loader still isn't cracked.

I wouldn't hold my breath about the X or Droid 2.

Root most likely will happen, but the bootloader isn't something I see being overcome.

Hopefully I'm wrong :)

Thanks for the heads up, I haven't owned a samsung phone before so I didn't really have anything to go on. I might just go samsung if the pro turns out to be a disappointment. But I might just "suck it up" with my dislike of snapdragons and get an htc because the rooting community is so well established despite htc looking down on it. I hope they don't go Motorola and start putting locked bootloaders on their phones.

I'm hoping that the Droid pro will have these specs or similar specs:
4.3" screen
2ghz processor
1gb of RAM
front facing camera
no keyboard
android 3.0
gyroscope
4g capable
will have a keyboard
no LTE (early rumor. nothing new has been said.)
4.3" Screen. Nobody is saying but it hasn't been shot down.

any word on whether it will be a virtual keyboard, or physical??

seems odd they would develop a phone with these capabilities, and not make it usable with LTE...

EDIT: i meant a separate/slide out virtual keyboard vs. physical... if it's going to be that big, i'd kinda like to see them keep the weight and thickness down a little with a virtual keyboard...

I really doubt that would happen. It seems like a really bad idea to be honest hah. I'd much rather it be a single touch screen than have there be a useless second one adding on bulk. If they actually used that design, I would choose another phone over the pro.
