Motorola Droid Pro

AS long as this phone is 4G/LTE compatible I will be all over it! Hopefully though this does happen and no blur is a big plus too maybe Motorola is getting smarter:)

I wouldn't count on it. Depends on what Google does with Gingerbread, but the UI is currently a turn-off for a much larger market, and Motorola would be remiss to fail to address that.

Customization is great, but if you really want to grow market share you have to provide a great stock, out-of-the-box experience for the 80% of the market that has absolutely no interest in spending 1/100th the time people here do tweaking their phone.

Don't care if it comes with blur (actually, would like to see and test it in action), so long as I can root and get rid of it. I'm waiting to upgrade to an LTE phone with eye-popping specs, and I suspect that could be my last phone for a long time...until one comes out that can replace my laptop :)

The only thing more offensive that the Android stock UI is any blur-inspired UI.

If it could be turned off, and I mean off, fine. But otherwise, I'd take the stock Android UI over a blur UI any day of the week.

Once the phone gets rooted though, wouldn't it just be easier to flash a non-blur or sense ROM onto it to remove it?

I agree - I wish they'd make them optional, even an install for someone who wanted Blur. It'd be nice if manufacturers offered the choice to people who didn't want to root.

But if they make it easy enough to root like when the Droid came out and you simply needed to just install an easy update.zip , this should be no sweat to overcome a crappy UI.

It's like walking up to a child and saying that there exists a magical box that can give him/her ice cream, candy, and toys.

Droid Pro is still just a rumor, so obsessing over it is kind of dumb. And even worse, when you find out that the box only gives you half the amount of ice cream, some old cadmium-laced toys, and sour candy, then it just becomes an unnecessary disappointment.

When Motorola does come out with a new phone in the Droid series, however, it would have to be quite amazing to get me to switch from my Droid X. And I don't mean useless upgrades that have no true effect on the phone, like a 12mp camera, 1080p video, front-facing camera, etc. They have to be innovations or substantial upgrades, such as:

-An upgraded processor speed, such as 2.0 single core or 1.0 dual-core, 1.2 dual core, etc. And the phone also has to come with programs that UTILIZE this speed. I don't need 1.6GHz if I'm just flipping through screen and running 854x480 video. The laptop I'm on right now is 1.6GHz, and I can do a ridiculous amount of things on a computer.
-A RAM upgrade. One of the reasons I can do the aforementioned things on my laptop is because of its 3 gigs of ram. If a phone came with 1.5gigs or more + the processor upgrade, apps and programs in general could take a gigantic leap forward.
-A Screen update. Currently, LCD is the leader. It's been more or less perfected, and it simply works. Once they get a grasp on OLED and other technologies (especially those that conserve battery life), it will be a fantastic moment for mobile devices.
-Battery. This is one of the most important upgrades. If phones are going to get any bigger, badder, and more powerful, this must happen. This is an innovation that becomes an upgrade.
-Various innovations. I can't predict the future. Google and Motorola will get their imaginations running, which should make for some interesting software and hardware discoveries.
-The other stuff. 4G and 5G services, advanced wireless cards, etc.

It would take quite a glorious mix of these things to be worth spending another $200 or more, especially when the software, apps, programs, and general usage for smartphones doesn't support such advancements yet.

Well said. I wouldn't just upgrade to upgrade but my NE2 is up in a few weeks but I want to hold out until around Christmas. If the MDP is an option, and real, I would love to move up for it from a regular Droid.

That's a pretty good list, which I would probably be following if it weren't for the fact that I have the Droid 1. I passed on the X because of the locked bootloader and the fact that I didn't think it was that big of an upgrade. I'm pretty sure the Pro will be with upgrading from the D1.

Reading everyone's wish list, this proves that smartphones have taken gigantic leaps forward. I really do not see them offering anything substantial for the rest of the year. I believe that 2011 will be the year of dual core processors and an infinite amount of ram space. Right now they are going to try and pacify us with bigger screens and 720p picture/video quality, much like with LCD and Plasma Tvs.

Maybe Big Red will release a new phone for their LTE network around Thanksgiving, but I see their next biggest phone being the D2 and the Fascinate. After that there will be a few mid-range phones.

So you don't think the Droid Pro will be bigger than the D2? I mean, they're not even advertising for it and the Fascinate isn't apart of the Droid line so I don't think it will be that big either.

I think the Droid Pro will be bigger than the D2, but we do not even know if the Droid Pro exist. I do think that the Samsung is a force to be reckoned with. There have not been many Smartphone/Phones that were released by all 4 major carriers. I can only think of the Curve and Razr and each of those phones, with their short comings, were iconic.

I think it exists, but who knows if it will get scrapped or not. You have a good point on Samsung though. I just wonder if Verizon is going to push the Fascinate over other Droid phones.

Where did the rumor for the Droid Pro start? I don't want to sift through 30 pages of posts. Who is this 'bill23' thats providing the early leak?

I'd love to have a solid Android phone to upgrade to when my NE2 comes up next year, but an open boot loader, root and active development community are essential. Without those, I see no point in replacing my Droid with anything else as it would be a downgrade.
