Motorola Droid RAZR to Get ICS this Month?

This report is FALSE. I just checked the VZW Support twitter page and at 12:24PM someone asked the question because they had read that it was spam and VZW Support's response was "We did send out those messages to users that will be affected by the upgrade in order to have time to find other IM solutions. ^MS"

Link: Twitter

And here is a screen shot if it will allow me to uplaod:

It's strange because the text message doesn't actually suggest downloading another app so what would be the purpose of the message? Based on that I would say that the text seems legit. If it was spam it would only exist for the sole purpose of messing with us Razr users which is odd.

I can't say I'm surprised by the fact that there are different Verizon support personnel giving different answers but you would think they would know if something like this went out. I'm torn. It's very strange and obviously when we get word on the upgrade it will be official so this is all speculation. I just wanted to post this in case people were counting too heavily on it getting here in the next couple of days. Hopefully the story is incorrect and the rep that originally tweeted about the text being spam is wrong. It wouldn't be the first time!

I got a $50 off promo on top of the promos already going on. I got it off of MyVerizon when I paid my bill. I didnt use it and that same day I changed my mind. I couldnt find that promo anywhere. I called VZW tech and they pretty much called me a liar and needed proof. She said they cannot LOOK UP promos and crap like that because they dont have a complete unified system and I needed to pay full price. I finally gave up being soooo pist off. To make a long story short, I found the ad and called the same rep. Emailed her and she comfirmed it was one of their ads to good customers only and they dont even know what promos are around.

Another time, I got a gift card in the mail and inside were very very good VZW promos. Letting me upgrade both my lines way early and super low price on the new incredibles when they came out. VZW reps didnt know what it was and wouldnt let me do it until they called corporate office. It turned out I was a small % of customers that were so good they were giving exclusive promos. I would always over pay my bills and pay ahead of time.

Moral of my stories, Verizon doesnt know crap about what the heck theyre doing.

I agree with you there. I truly believe, barring some type of major glitch, the soak will probably happen sometime this week, maybe as late as early next week, and the OTA starting on the 29th or 30th. This way Motorola is happy and doesn't have to make customers mad by not making their Q2 estimation, and VZW gets to advertise ICS on Razr and Maxx AFTER June 28th, which will tempt people to buy new phones, and thus take away their unlimited data (for those who still have it). Just my $0.02.

That would be great! I'm hoping that they don't even do a soak. I'm slightly suspicious of all the unofficial "leaks" that have come down the pike recently. They seem to work pretty smoothly and there are also Razrs overseas already running ICS. You're right though - they really could advertise and push the phones especially after the news about the data package changes. Apple was taking shots at the Android OS names at their keynote last week but there are less than 10% of devices actually running ICS. They need to start getting it out because it's becoming a joke.

They do need to get their information straight! They posted a Twitter update at 9:27 am today that is was spam:

Why the big secret at VZ and Motorola re ICS Razr Maxx

Twitter is going wild today. Lots of disgruntled customers wondering whether or not the text message was real or fake. Athe least Verizon or Motorola could do is send a text message to the affected customers and let them know if the darned text was real. I've been a VZ customer for 15 years, cellular, and FIOS! Too. Pay bills on time, and yet Customer Serv fails to respond? Am I annoyed. YES-at the rate of $180.a month, not including FIOS!

I wholeheartedly agree! Obviously everyone is eager to get the update but I think more people are upset about the confusion and lack of transparency on their part. You're right - we pay a lot of money and deserve to get a straight answer.

Has the testing really begun as reported by gottabemobile.com ??

With as many active droid owners there are on this forum, and nobody has come forward saying soak has started then it's probably BS.

Edit: If you follow the droidlife link on gottabemobile.com it just states the latest build 6.16.211 looks promising, nothing about soak tests.

Slight clarification, the soak letters aren't going out, but a survey to determine eligibility and willingness to participate in a "new software release" did go out. Once the company receives the targeted number of respondents they will choose from that group, then lock the forum on Motorola.com and issue the letters with links to the private soak forum. Once on the forum for soak, you are prevented from participating in any of the standard forum discussions, and of course, are also bound to a vow of secrecy regarding the entire thing.

In other words, if you DO get picked, DON'T ANNOUNCE IT HERE!!

Yes, confirmed. Saw notice from niece who resides in NYC. It did not mention ICS at all. Nothing about confidentiality.
That's all i know. othr than she is afraid to do it!!!!! Said she'll wait until actual REAL software is pushed out. So, it may not even be an ICS trial.
She's not a techky type! Other than my immediate family, she's the onlyother droid razr user I know, and the only REAl person I know who got an invite.
Got nervous when she got email from Survery, and didn't want to give her info to 3rd party controller. Go figure and she opted out. UGH!
How people are selected is beyond me! But who knows, she may be doing the right thing.

ICS is set to release by this quarter of the year, so it's not going to be anything other than ICS, because ICS is the only next big software update that would need soak testing.

For her to get that email, she would've had to have signed up for Motorolas FeedBack Network, why she is clueless and doesn't seem to trust the email is beyond me. All past soak tests have used surveymonkey as far as im aware. The email was not fake or a scam.
