Motorola Olympus aka "Terminator" Spotted!

Not crazy about the looks. Looks too elegant. Not industrial like the Droid, D2 and DX. And don't wanna deal with blur on another phone even though I am using LP to mask it. I might be making a jump to whatever HTC has to offer next year. Or just hold on to my trusty DX for a while longer.

I did have high hopes for this phone but not with a smaller screen, moto has been doing 16:9 which makes the screen narrower than say HTC. The other negatives for me is motoblur, which I hate, plus it means slower update cycle than vanilla android. Then there is the issue with all new moto's having the phone locked down and even though it will probably be rooted it will most likely take much longer than an HTC. Yes HTC has locked down their phones too but due to the brands XDA love it will get rooted faster and likely have more rom options. So this phone is no longer at the top of my list but it is still on the list...

It doesn't matter you know it will be hacked soon or later to get it rooted. Bloatware (motoblur) You can simply download a rom when it comes out that
remove the motoblur or manually remove it. It will take a while to get to that point like it did to droid x. I'm a tech savvy doesn't mean I will care about boot folder being lock. I'm happy that i can run rom on my droid x and themes and other stuff thats enough for me. It's a smartphone after all we suppose to use it just to keep on touch with friends and email and watch youtube, not to hack into files to the phone its not a computer. Why do that on a phone why not better off doing it on a computer?

I'm going to go ahead and say what everyone here that reads what you just wrote is thinking...

ARE YOU SERIOUS?

Yes, these phones ARE computers. Let there be no mistaking that. The phone I am currently typing on is more powerful than my first computer 13 years ago. How long ago was it that dual core processors hit computers? My Mac has one in it. And now we are staring down the barrel of it being offered in cell phones. In the nicest was possible, I very much disagree with your point. Just out of morbid curiosity, what would you consider a tablet? Because these smartphones have essentially the same internals and the only differentiation is screen size.

These are most certainly handheld computers that make phone calls.

On your other point, the source code for all the software on these phones is open source. It allows for anyone tech saavy enough to "hack" the phone and modify it to the users' wishes. What exactly do you think Motorola, HTC, Samsung...are doing with the android source code? They are "hacking" it to suit their interests. Why would we not do the same?

With all due respect, you are a bit off track and are missing the whole point of why we love android as opposed the competitors offerings.

Does anyone have more info as to the screen? I heard rumoured it had a HD screen liked the iPhone 4.

Iphone 4 is hd?
I think he is thinking of a "higher resolution" screen, aka, retina display.

Retina display is proprietary to Apple. Motorola could certainly try and replicate the tech, but I don't think the public is clamoring for it en mass just yet. A true HD display on a smartphone will come, just not yet...

Yes, that's exactly what I meant, thanks. Not 1080p.

It's just that I really like the iPhone 4 display - would make this phone the complete bundle.

Actually it does matter to me, the DX hacking is behind that of HTC's that came out after it. Will this new one be it be hacked, probably but to a lessor extent and/or slower so for me I'd prefer not to wait 4 months to customize my phone when by then I may be looking to get a new one. Oh and yes I do want to hack my phone and I use my phone much more than I use my computer these days. So the sooner it is hacked the sooner I can do things that VZW or Moto don't want me to do on my phone because they can't charge me for it or they want me to wait until they give it to me down the road at their leisure. Anyway it's all a matter of perspective to ea his/her own> Me I want it all and I want it now. ;) Its all a matter of what ea person wants to do and I'm sure I'm not in the majority but I couldn't care less about that. :)

The above post was a reply to this:

Sorry can't edit my post...

Damn it hmmm, incredible HD and now this! I like the style of the incredible HD more, the Olympus reminds me of the galaxy series, I'm sticking with the HD until they all these mighty phones make their way here

"Retina" is just a marketing name Apple uses. Anyone can use any resolution they want in manufacturing a phone. Sharp has an Android phone in Japan with the same resolution (960 x 640), and Meizu has announced one there too. They have to modify Android to support that resolution (because 2.2 doesn't natively support it), but Samsung does the same thing for their Tab (1024 x 600).

Gingerbread might support higher resolutions (Honeycomb definately will), which will open the door for more higher res Android phones.
