Motorola, Please tell me this is a bad joke!!!

I might be completely wrong but I remember it being said that originally they "fixed" this problem by lowering the maximum volume on the device. They reset the max volume to default in ICS, so that's why its back.

The problem is back for me as well. Noticed it immediately after the upgrade last Friday, and has been constantly noticeable in both voice calls and when listening to music. Tried many different pairs of headphones, adjusted every volume setting I could find, cleaned the headphone jack and it will not go away.

I finally called Verizon today and they are issuing me a warranty replacement, even though I am a few days out of warranty (glad I didn't wait any longer to call!). I'll try a hard reset on my existing device if I have time, and let you know what happens.

*Edit* - It's a very high-pitched whine. Almost sounds like brakes squealing. And it's there constantly whenever there is sound being sent to the headphone jack. Once I hangup a call or turn off music, the noise will cease 2-3 seconds after.

Wow. I'm also dealing with a very annoying hiss when making calls since the ICS upgrade. I'm about 30 day's outside of warranty too. Hope verizon can take care of me.

I just talked to some dude from VZW, he wanted to send me a CLNR to resolve a SOFTWARE issue.
And VZW wonders why I keep telling them I'm heading to Sprint or TMo once my contract is up next September.

I solved the issue on my phone. I realized that my audio sounded too bassy, so I checked the settings under:

Sound>Audio Effects>Wired Audio Device

For some reason Enable Audio Effects was switched on, I turned this off and the problem went away.

Sadly this didn't work for me at all.

I received my replacement device, and I am dissapointed to say, the hiss is still present.

The replacement arrived without ICS, so I activated the device, checked to see if the 'hiss' was present (it was not), and proceeded up upgrade it to ICS. After the upgrade, I checked & the hiss was present. I did a FDR on the replacement device, re-activated it (with ICS), hiss is still present.

Not wanting to keep a refurb if I didn't have too, I went back to my original Bionic. I will call Verizon tomorrow or Monday and see what they want to do.

In the meantime, has anyone found a successful workaround?

I need someone who notices the 'hiss' to try something for me. If you have a pair of headphones that DO NOT have a microphone on them, plug it into your phone and let me know if you notice the hiss noise. (Headphones without a mic will have 2 black lines on the 2.5mm jack. Headsets with a mic will have 3).

I've noticed the noise is not present when I plug the phone into my car stereo, and the cable I use is a standard 2.5mm stereo cable. But, it could be that I simply can't hear it in my car, where I can with headphones. I want to test this idea with a pair of standard headphones, but I don't have a pair.

Hiss is still there with standard headphones for me. I can hear it in the car as well, but only if the car is parked, the engine is off, and the volume is up.

Like others have said, it's identical to the old hiss that it had when the Bionic first came out. Too bad it's back.
