Motorola Xoom Still Better then The iPad 2 in Comparison!!!

Flash on the Xoom? Not yet.. MicroSD on Xoom? Hmm.. Not yet.. If you go off these specs then you are lying to your self ( yeah it will come but when? Like gingerbread for the X haha). I am fanboy of both products and agree that function and price are what really matters to most non-technical users and this is where the iPad will win. Would I hand my wife a xoom, probably not, would I get one for myself * Absolutely*.

How do you figure????

Apple A5 is twice as fast as A4 with nine times the graphics processing....

You do realize that the A4 is as fast in real-world computing as the CPU in the yet-to-be-released Thunderbolt... don't you?
In no way does the Xoom top that.

Your thread's title should've been; "Price: the only thing the Xoom has over the iPad2", or maybe; "Xoom not as good as iPad2, but atleast its more expensive!!"

Put your rose-coloured glasses away, its price is better, its OS is actually polished, and it will have atleast 2 years of support. Xoom sales will all but stop now that iPad2 is coming in less than 2 weeks with a better price...

On a side note, who would've thought the iPad2 would be announced, and possibly released, before the Thunderbolt is released???

Few people care about specs, though. The ipad is unfortunately a different animal, specs notwithstanding. It'll outsell all those devices, probably combined.

I concur....I could release a tablet that was the end all be all and Apple would still outsell it.

Apple has brand recognition on lock down. This is the reality........

when it comes down to it the xoom has root and that is important to most of us users on here. Not only does it have root but an unlocked bootloader, they already have it over clocked and with custom roms and kernels it will be a beast!

I bolded the key phrases in your post...and how long has Gingerbread been out.. Look at how the X was one of the first phones to be updated to Froyo after it was released. About 2 months after it the X was launched. I would say thats not bad.

Ok....the Xoom has a dual core chip with a better gpu too. The Thunderbolt doesnt. So whats the point about the chip? Also:

No SD card slot. Now, I know there is some issues with it right now with the Xoom. But it will be here, just give it time.

No Flash. Yea it isnt ready yet, But remember when it wasnt ready for Android phones? It will be, just give it time. And on a tablet Flash should be alot more enjoyable. I like it on my phone. No, Flash didnt hurt sales of the iPad 1, but it is still something the Xoom has the iPad doesnt.

HDMI out by adapter

might still have 256MB Ram

Wont be 4G capable

Honeycomb as a OS just looks different and brings freshness to the table. I get why some ppl like WP7 UI. Its something different. But with Honeycomb its not totally different from the Android that we know on phones, but it is.

I can see where the Xoom still has a few advantages over the iPad 2. I did say price at one time but the 16GB iPad is the cheapest. Look at the 32GB and 64GB model and price isnt that big a factor.

I think the Xoom will be fine.

I didnt mean that people would buy it blindly. I meant that they put out great products that work great, efficiently and smoothly without need for extra tweaks or some awesome specs. That's why i said specs don't matter in this case...their hardware works perfectly with the software

Oh and the main advantage the iPad has over the Xoom is apps right now. Are ppl really buying the 16GB version? If they are then the price for that is a definite advantage for the iPad.

OK, I am an iPad owner. Other than the obvious negatives (no flash, no SD card slot, etc), it does have that ONE problem that most Apple faithfuls fail to mention..... insufficient RAM. I have to stop and kill processes a lot to keep it running smooth. That one thing annoys me more than anything else. Even more so than the lack of accessing the storage and file system for downloading. So I was more than happy to jailbreak mine and get a little more functionality out of it.

I plan on buying a Xoom, as I have a Droid X and a Droid 1 and I still cannot live without them even since buying an iPad. Price is no concern even with the 3G model, as I have a $100 discount on it (off-contract) whenever i decide to buy it (Motorola is my friend lol).

Basically, on paper, Xoom is the better tablet with a lot more potential, but I will keep my iPad and possibly down the road get an iPad 2 (my daughter loves the iPad so I may give it to her if/when i get an iPad 2). So for all of the people coming in bashing one of the other, just admit that on paper, the specs still aren't where the Xoom is (SD card functionality coming with update, more RAM, upgrade to 4G, better resolution, etc). The price for the iPad 2 is still better, but some of us can get around that. I am not bashing, as i plan in having both, but admit the obvious and let it go.

The specs of the ipad don't matter. If it has an Apple insignia on it, those who need to impress their friends will buy it. Yes, Apple products are good products, but many (perhaps most) of those buying them are doing so because Apple shows that you are with the "in" crowd. Buying a better product from another manufacturer will not accomplish that. While we will not know for a while if the ipad 2 or the XOOM is a better product in real life, I would easily buy the XOOM over the ipad 2, assuming that I could actually afford either one. :( I have played with the XOOM at the local Verizon store and I think it is a winner.

Spoken like a true Apple hater. I own an IPad because it's a nice piece of hardware. Despite what anyone says... It does what you want it to do, it does what it's meant to do... and despite not having flash I enjoy it very much (don't really frequent that many flash sites anyway). The apps are awesome because I have so many apps on there and I love the ability to just hand the device over to my 2 y/o son for him to use. I am not an apple enthusiast, I'm a tech Geek.
It doesn't matter how good specwise a product is if those boosted specs don't make the product that much better, they are not going to convert that many more people. There are no specs on the Xoom that make it "groundbreakingly" better than the IPAD 2. Quite honestly... I want to buy a xoom but i don't want the 3g/4g model.

Spoken by a anything that's not Apple hater. I'm not an Apple hater. Which orifice did you pull that out of? I said that they make a good product. Apple products are well designed and well built. However, when someone with an iphone looks at my Droid and says, "Mine is an iphone." or sees my iaudio mp3 player and comments about their ipod like anything else is garbage with their nose up in the air then my comment about the in crowd is valid. Many buy Apple products because they like the quality and happen to like itunes. Many also buy Apple products because it makes them feel more important than people who buy other products. I happen to like Android phones and iaudio mp3 players, not because they are not Apple, but because I like the way that they work and what they do for me. I have never seen anyone using an iaudio, iriver or other non Apple and less peer important mp3 player act like it makes them special, even teens. Owning an Apple product for some is like bragging about your $100 jeans or $1000 suit to impress.

I dislike Apple for the overabundance of control they use, just like some here don't like Motorola for locked bootloaders and Blur.

You may want to look closer at the ecosystem. There are many Droid users that fit the exact description you just gave. ;)

Okay people a lot of you are complaing about how polished android isn't. How many of you actually have used honeycomb probably not a lot. And for a side note nvidia processors are incredible. My brother has a desktop running of a lot of nvidia processors and those things are the best. Now I do realize I made a comparison to a tablet and desktop but most people don't understand that the speed is governed by how much room a processor has to work and run calculations and processes. So memory is key. Small ram kinda slow. Ipad2 needs atleast 1gb or ram to win my opinion if not well xoom all the way.

There is an element of truth that one selling point of Apple the brand identity; buying into a culture, if you will. Putting that aside, the iPad still brings a lot to the table.

The Xoom and other android tablets could out-spec the iPad 2 on paper, but in actual usage even the first iPad is smoother, more reliable, less buggy, and faster than the Xoom. That's one advantage of having efficient OS and software that is designed to run on a finite variety of hardware. More importantly, the iPad has many more cool, great-looking, and useful apps. When the iPad first came out there weren't many apps optimized for the tablet form factor, but that quickly changed. The same will happen with Android, but the difference is that the iPhone already had a ton of cool, good-looking, and useful apps awaiting optimization. Unfortunately, Android phones still lags far behind in that department.

Not to mention that the cheapest iPad has more than enough storage for 99% of people and it already sells like gangbusters. An Android tablet that retails for more than the 16GB iPad is basically bringing a knife to a gunfight.
