Didn't Microsoft lose a lawsuit in eu because they had internet explorer installed and people didn't want it? Why are these phones any different? I don't want all this extra crap.

They're not. You're allowed by law to root your phone. You're not allowed to by loosely worded TOS's that invalidate your warranty for doing so. It'll take a few years before we get the same protection on our handsets that we do on our desk/laptops. Hopefully it will be Google themselves championing that call. Otherwise it's just an uphill battle for us poor consumers.
