Mysterious Device Now With November 23 Launch date

i think that there is much larger than 1% of vzw customers interested in 3g! especially when not all areas will be covered at launch.
the continuim was just announced officially by vzw today and it launches on the 11th. perhaps htc is better at keeping secrets than samsung.
with the biggest shopping day of the season a couple of days after the rumored launch of dinc hd i think it makes perfect sense to release this phone.

Who said 1% of VZN customers care about 3G and the rest don't?

In my original "1%" statement, I was referring to the less than 1% of people that are Verizon customers that care about the HTC DROID Incredible HD.

The average Verizon customer is a soccer mom, a girl hanging out at the mall, a sports jock, a construction worker, you get the picture. I'd say less than 1% for certain are Google fanboys like us. I have about 20 Android Blogs subscribed to on my Google Reader page so I can get the daily news--well before the average user.

Most people I know do not know what Android is, but they know that DROID is a Verizon phone because there have been thousands of commercials stating this brand on prime time TV.

As for the point I was making when I mentioned this? I don't have a clue actually. But i retyping this it makes me wonder why they are being so tight lipped about this. This pictures can leak tonight on this thread and not one person I know would even have a clue.

i read they OC'd the G2 at 1.6ghz so what do you have to reflash that kernal and root everytime your reboot your phone? that doesnt make sense.. i must be missing something.. anyone chime in?

I mainly rooted so I can have a smoother experience. The Droid 1, I found is very choppy, suffers from redraw syndrome, etc... Rooting, using a custom launcher, etc all helped this. I hope the DINC HD is so fast and has enough memory where I don't have to do all of this. Now rooting and using custom launchers allows a very personal experience. THAT, I will miss if I can't do it (well I can do the Launcher part since that doesn't require root)... so I think I'd still be willing to sacrifice rooting on this phone....

...now if only we had more tidbits on it (specs, pics, features...) then i'd know?

Stupid Verizon/HTC. If this is really coming out 23rd and I assume it will since two devices seems to have been confirmed by Miami, why don't they let some things out??? The general public does not care about this. That is 99% of their shoppers. They are still being fooled by the X's, Galaxies, and other devices that are "so six months ago"... throw us a bone and open up the can already!!!

You just answered your own question. This device, IF its as big as everyone is making it out to be, deserves the build up and hype of the D1. I cant find it now but I do recall VZWs renewal #s on contracts at this time last year took a dip as users were waiting on the droid. The general public doesn't care about this handset how could they? It hasn't been marketed to them. You don't just throw a phone with tons of $ in R&D and testing out on the market without a huge buildup. ESPECIALLY if its to be the flagship device of your new LTE network.

Would YOU spring this device on your customers with no buildup? It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see the 3G version totally canned IMO. If I was sitting on the board for this company there is NO WAY a 3g version of this phone gets released. Its simply not responsible to release a 3g version IMO. Release your flagship phone in a 3G model and then a couple months later release it as an LTE version? They're giving us the Pro this winter and i can see the Merge happening as well but I dont know how they would justify a 3G DincHD.

You don't cater to the 1% you cater to the naive 99. LOL

Honestly I think that a LOT of the frustration stems from a certain group of "sources" saying the Droid Pro was the superphone that everyone expects this to be. Remember THOSE rumors? 1.3-1.5Ghz processor, deleted due to language? Then it turned out to be exactly what I expected it to be a Professional version of a Droid with quality enterprise support.

You don't seem to get how they work. Verizon gains mote money when they hype up their devices and soon after a silent release of another device. People will return their devices and pay the restocking fee for their chance at the phone they would have wanted in the first place. Also, doesn't matter if Motorola releases a few new phones, Verizon will be glad to take other carriers devices. I see no reason for them to bring out a 3G IncHD this year and then a 4G Q2 2011. Also, the D2 came out August with the Global this month. Besides, Verizon aims the D2 and Pro towards enterprise/business users. The IncHD is a totally different ball park- its a consumer oriented multi-media device. Its in a class with the DX and the Fascinate. My personal thought is they can are the original Incredible is not up to par in consumer eyes to these new phones. So they gotta upgrade. Verizon is aware of what they're doing I'm sure. Sit back and see what they do.

+1... the pro was just announced, why would they release dinc two weeks later. I say 1q 2011 release date w LTE.

Why would u not release a 3g version and then a lte version that would actually be the smart thing to do.. I guess its a good thing SB is not on the board cuz VZW prolly would not even exist now lol.. look how fast they replaced the D2!! they need to release this phone this month or early next month then next year a lte version with say a 1.5 ghz processor would be sweet and tend to alot of different people!!! 1% i think u got that stat backwords buddy most ppl wont look for LTE till mid to late 2011!

I believe this is where we are at:

- 100% certain 3G device does exist.
- Completely uncertain on its release date.
- But can we assume well before 4G phones are announced at CES in Jan?

what you just said right there is enough to halt speculation. We know there are 2 devices, a 3G and a LTE. If they were not going to release a 3G dont you think it would be out of testing by now?

he said its been in testing for a while meaning its still testing which to me means its still coming.. and like you said before CES esp if this guy is thinking of inc HD LTE by march.. not going to release the same version of the phone that close together.

which goes back to the only reasonable date for holiday/Christmas sales.. on or before thanksgiving.. which is why i think it will either be here on or before black friday or not at all. This is going to be a big phone and selling it in the month of December is not going to benifit them that much imo.

we will see but i am calling it now, release on 23rd no info or pics until at least a week or so to the date of launch, and that info will most likely be from Miami.

Good thing is its only 2 weeks, thats a Christmas break back in school, remember how fast those used to go? lol

I think you underestimating saying it is only 1%. To be honest with you, your not on the board and you have no information to support your statement example making up the 1% theory. This is why people come up with crazy speculations because peoiple like you think they have the answers and you really don't so you shouldn't speculate what the public wants nor what you think the public or the company wants. Your points are so invalid that it makes you look really ignorant. For you to assume that everyone needs 4g is just plain dumb and then to say that only 1% would want a 4g phone is even well... you figured it out..... Just stick with the facts which there are none so stop speculating and be patient. On a side note tho I think it would be smart to put out the two phones because VZW will get a lot more money for the same phone and appeal to both the fields EX Droid 2

If you REALLY want to pick apart a post we can do so but I'd rather not. I just used the 1% that was quoted in the post that I quoted. NO WHERE did i say that everyone NEEDS 4G anything else about the wants of a customer. I am only responsible for the CONTENT of my message I can't help it if you lack the comprehension skills to figure out that I was talking from a marketing and business standpoint. Calling someone else ignorant because you don't fully comprehend their message? Now THAT is ignorant.

Why would u say that when its already been confirmed a 3G exist.. there not going to can the 3G, miami said he was checking just to cover himself..

Come on viper LOTS of things have been "confirmed" on these forums that never come into production. Thats why I mentioned the rumors of the Droid Pro being the ridiculous super phone that it wasn't and those rumors were backed up by some of same sources that are giving up info for this one. Once i see a press release or a pic thats NOT 6 months old with a running screen shot I'll start believing

Hey all. Been watching this thread for a little over a week, joined some of the chats. Figured I'd make an account and join the discussion.

What I want from this device is some power to truly make it a step ahead of any other phone out there with similar form function. To me, that means, a large screen (already confirmed), a FFC (just so we can say we have one), Sense (because I love it), a faster processor (1.2?), good internal memory, and above all else, a higher resolution screen.

Anyway, hope to see some solid details on this phone soon. Getting tired of coming back to this thread and seeing no new info! I just want a few pictures, and specs. Hoping the only difference between the LTE and the 3G is just that.

silent release?

I think it makes a lot of sense for verizon to do a silent release for the Dinc HD and then hype it up for christmas. at this point they have a lot of original incredibles sitting on the shelves that they want to get rid of- that's why there are all these deals for them now. who would buy a Dinc now if there was tons of advertising for an upgraded model coming out in a few weeks? This is basically exactly what they did with the D1 before D2 was released- make a bunch of good deals so that people will take all their d1's of their hands so that they aren't lying around when d2 was released

Since this thread slows down around this time every night. im going to end my night by saying 11/23/10 we will have our hands on one amazing phone. ;)

The Droid had been out for almost a full year before the 2 was released. Theories on consumer behavior suggest that with all of the heavy marketing going on right now to blow out the DInc, bringing out an DincHD(3G) and then less than 6 months later bring out an LTE version would result in lower sales for both devices.

If you're an uninformed consumer and walk into Verizon and see 2 phones with the same name yet one is LTE, you'll probably ask a couple questions. Why is the 3g version cheaper (it would have to be for the LTE version to sell at all) What's LTE? Do I need LTE? Does it add to my bill?

Your customer then weighs their options. Cheaper phone with a cheaper bill vs "the other one". Two products with the same name that have been introduced within months of each other is not a good idea for a subscription based business.

So, if nothing else, I suppose we can all agree there are two devices coming out. Miami confirmed this today.

However, the silence (and forced silence) on behalf of Verizon is just baffling. Why did we hear non stop talk and see pictures of the Galaxy phones, the Motorola "Shadow" and others? If this launch is two weeks from tomorrow, or at least two weeks from Thursday... it seems something more would have come out. Why so secretive compared to others?

I suppose it is the large amount of original INC's left and also the launch of the DPRO/MERGE/CONTINUUM.... they don't want these things overshadowed. It is the ONLY logical answer outside of "It does not really exist".

^They would most likely discontinue the 3G version, like they are dc'ing the D2.

They are just offering a competitive device and later improving upon it. It doesn't cost VZW anything more, and keeps people from moving to other carriers.

Except for the fact that there won't be a huge rush on LTE device release since full implementation isn't until 2013 to 2014. There are about 39 markets slated for initial LTE launch and the rest will phase in slowly. So yeah, trying to sell more expensive LTE devices nationwide for advanced use on a system that won't be fully implemented for a couple more years is a smart marketing move.

Not.
