Newbie Guide to Rooting the Fascinate

USB device not recognized

thanks for the great step by step.

unfortunately, i can only get as far as installing device drivers. after it appears to install correctly, i hook my fascinate up and get this same error over and over again :usb device not recognized

AAAAAAARGGGGGGHHHHHH! :icon_eek:

i have tried everything i can think of and cant get the phone and computer to communicate. they were communicating fine prior to this. i have uninstalled, reinstalled drivers. i have deleted and reinstalled adb. dont know what else i should do.

running this on an old vista latpop with x86 vista and amd 64 turon proc.

any ideas?

True

Excellent guide! made rooting very easy! This is my first android phone, and your guide was the best one I found. Others assume you know quite a bit about rooting, so I found your guide to be very helpful to me as a complete beginner.

We were all there once... I know about a year ago when I got my Droid 1 I was so lost reading all the guides... luckily this forum got me though the chaos! :D

THIS IS THE BEST ANDROID FORUM OUT THERE IGNORE THE REST LOL. I too am a noob. Droid 1 w/ Ultimate droid. Will probably never own a non android!!!

ok dumb question have you check to see if your running x64 or x32 bit windows?

Thanks for the wonderful instructions. This was my first attempt at rooting my droid and it worked flawlessly. The wifi tether program -pre11 worked well with my galaxy s!

Kudos to you sir!

Not a dumb question. 32 bit.

Ok, I went through all the steps, and Superuser is working. When I go into titanium backup, it tells me I don't have root permission, same with quick quick app clear cache. What am I doing wrong?

I have factory reset my phone, formated my sd card.... Still getting the same message when I try to use titanium.... This is SOOOOO Frustrating, someone please help....

Do I need to mount my phone when I plug it in? Do I need to startup the terminal emulator?

Sometimes Titanium Backup has a problem with the version of BusyBox you have installed and gives you a warning that you're not root even though you are.

To fix this, tap "Problems" in the lower right in Titanium Backup and allow it to install it's version of busy box. After that, it should work fine.

ok so when i opened the tools the adb.exe is not there. what do i do?

x2
in the first section, setup ADB, the file the OP downloads is android-sdk_r07-windows.zip and the only possible download on the android sdk website is android-sdk_r08-windows.zip. There is no adb.exe in the zip.

None of the files in the ...\tools\ produce the output like in the tutorial, so the file isnt just renamed.

Anyone have any ideas?

EDIT: I just searched for and downloaded android-sdk_r07-windows.zip. After that it was a breeze to install.
Thanks Mr. Droid for the great write-up.

adb.exe

ADB.exe doesnt seem to be in the android-sdk_r08-windows.zip file as it used to be in the android-sdk_r06-windows.zip file. But after extracting the zip file, if you run SDK Manager.exe ( found in the ..\android-sdk-windows folder ) and allow it to install all the packages it should create a new folder called ..\platform-tools with adb.exe and other exes in it.

help please

i have followed everything you have directed but everytime i go to cmd.exe and type in adb. all those things that are supposed to pop up doesn't. all it says is... 'adb' is not recognizable as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file... what am i doing wrong?
