what is the etiquette as far as posting a link to a different forum? I did my first root with this guide and feel I did benefit from doing it this way as I got ADB installed (and my Windows system path variable adjusted) and a little experience with it.
But after restoring to stock I found a guide which provided a much easier way to do root, using ODIN.

I wouldn't think there would be an issue. However, rooting via odin is a little overkill. Flashing can always lead to a bricked device. There are one-click variations of the manual method I would try first.
My second rooting was down with the instructions found on site linked below and was actually done over USB debugging connection using SUPERONECLICK. I did need to flash DJ05 radio with ODIN, a fact I stumbled on later. Fascinate Root Instuctions
mrdroid - how about a "Newbie Guide to Install DL09" ?! I breezed right through rooting my new Fascinate a couple months ago with this guide, but the instructions to flash this ROM aren't quite as precise as what I fell comfortable with...
nvm... once I found the link to download Odin, I was able to install DL09 then rerooted using these instructions, again!
I rooted my device from this guide, but I didn't add any other ROMs, etc then what was necissary to get root access on my Fascinate.
I plan on returning my phone and exchanging it for the Droid X instead, do I need to restore my phone and remove root before I return it to Verizon? If so, based off this guide how do I go about doing that?
I followed the steps that you gave and it was really easy. I didn't know what to do from there and after reading some of the posts, I downloaded titanium backup. I uninstalled all of the verizon placed applications and their icons disappeared. I now have the kindle icon on my screen but when i got to uninstall it, it isn't in the list. How do i get rid of it?
you should get a prompt for the update...it will download and prompt you to continue....its a slow rollout so who knows when everyone will recieve it...
I did it manually
Thanks, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't something simple to do to get the root back. Also, I wanted to make sure that this root tutorial would work on a phone that had been rooted and lost it due to the DL09 update. I will give it a shot and report back for anybody interested.
I see you have added a link to a different root does that mean the tutorial by Mr. Droid is not valid for the DL09 updaters?

you will not have a prob re rooting after updating...it wiped all trace of SU...this is just a more recent version i believe of rooting tutorial made after the DL09 update since Z4Mod no longer works for DL09...i believe it is easier...
yea i posted this on the day it was made, 1/15/10, the DL09 released on 1/11/10 i believe from VZW
