No SDcard Slot For The Note 5?!

For all you who think these are not needed- Good for you. I do not agree. If the past at all indicates what will happen in the future just remember - 16gb internal was over half filled by OS and crap. Some phones now double the internal to a more reasonable 32gb - and same complaint - it gives the providers more room to stuff the phones with crap.. Internal size increases will only result in more non removable things taking up space. Just wait until Microsoft makes deals to have Office pre-installed. They are well known for eating up available space!

Just a way for them to make us burn more data ..unless you use WiFi.. But they need to keep their "footprint" smaller..if I have to buy a 124 gig device just to get x amount of free space...its not worth it..

Personally it wouldn't take much for them to add sd cards to their devices..it makes life easier...

We need sd card for backup. Incase something happens to your phone. You can even backup your ROM to sd card so you can extract it if your phone is dead.

I'm 100% sure not a single OEM cares about what we can or can't do with a rooted phone.

I was reading a similar discussion elsewhere and had to laugh when someone stated that they would never need 32Gb of data. Reminded me saying years (many) ago when I got a computer with a 700Mb (yes Mb!) hard drive and could not figure out what I ever would need that much for. In less than 2 years it ran out of space and I had to buy a new one (and yes it was a mac).

I used to care about the SD card, but on a phone, anything with 32GB or more will cover 99% of the market's needs.

Now on a larger tablet, where you may want to have tons of movies and stuff, it is nice.

I have a Nexus 6 with 32gb, with my apps, 1200+ pics, several short movies taken at 1080p, plus 300 or so MP3's, and I still have 12GB free...

I think that at this point, if you spend so much time on your phone that you have to have 100+ apps, weeks of movies and music and you run out and need another 64gb of storage... You might want to rethink things, get out of the house more, interact with actual people, etc... LOL

It makes sense if you need a portable HD and want to carry large files around and not have a seperate thumb drive... For me, I always had a MicroSD slot, and always crammed a 64gb card in there, and more often than not, it had 55GB free, the phone would have 20gb free, etc... I had the space if I needed it, but over 4 years I never needed it and now I have an N6 and several 64gb card sitting in a drawer collecting dust, and I don't really miss it...

Dude. 5, or more, MP selfie camera needs a minimum of 64GB of storage. I mean really. So many social media outlets, so little time on Wi-Fi.
I hope you realize I'm just razzing. Kinda.

I do actually agree with you as the same goes here as well. But it reminds me of a discussion I had with the Verizon rep when I got my Note 4 and wanted to be sure I kept my unlimited data. The rep asked me why I was so concerned about it as I had rarely gone over 2gb. My response was for the same reason they wanted to take it away - we were both afraid that someday I might use it!

While I'm in a posting mood I'd like to address the people who say the microSD would slow down phones with the new high speed internal memory. I have a PC that is top of the current line (i7 w/32gb memory running a 500gb SSD). I also have several other drives attached to it for data etc. Those drives in no way slow the computer down until I ask it to get that data and it does it as fast as it can from that device - no problem. If you have something where speed is critical put it on internal, if not put it on external. Easy. And I have a tiny (about 1") thumb drive with a Normal USB on one end and a microUSB to connect to the phone on the other. Love it but worry about losing it so it normally stays in a secure loction and I push stuff for the trip from it to the microSD card. I only use cloud (drop box) for photos. Never for sensitive things.

Storage is cheap. We should never have to waste time managing storage. My reader apps download like a gig a day for offline reading, and unfortunately the app isn't good at clearing its cache every few days. More storage would be useful in many, many ways - I can go on and on, but there's no point thinking about it because my phone doesn't @#$#$R@ have an sd slot.

Nobody needs a 2k or 4k or whatever display, but THAT they keep giving us.

I think it's all about "options". In regards to smartphones, external sd cards are a must imo. I typically run pretty lean and all 81 apps I've downloaded to my S5 are used regularly.
That said, the amount of apps, music/movies etc that you have on your device has nothing to do with "getting out of the house more". Quite the contrary. Our smartphones have become an integral part of our lives which actually enable us to get out of the house more. They keep us from being tethered to our home pc, (or home in general) by providing various communication options, social media, banking and entertainment: all tools that allow us to be more active and well, "mobile". As previously mentioned, HD photos & video take up a ton of space and I think that having the option to save this media to an external sd card is paramount. Again, it's all about having options, and by taking away those options because carrier's & manufacturers want you to use their cloud storage, is just wrong. Sure I've been using DropBox regularly for the past 5+ years, but that shouldn't be my only "option" and I shouldn't have to carry around an OTG cable.
We all have different needs and we all use our devices differently. It's about using said technology to our advantage to enhance our lives. That's one of the main reasons most of us purchased a smartphone to begin with.
Just my 2 cents.

I don't use any cloud storage at all. At what point would internal storage only be enough? 300GB? 500GB?

So the S6 is outselling the S5 which had more features. It looks like the average person doesn't care about sdcards or removable batteries.

Yeah, I don't put anything too important in the cloud. Stuff that I wouldn't care if it was stolen or made public.
For example:
various apks I've acquired over the years like earlier Tapatalk versions. Zip file containing the original Nexus ringtones (because the stock Fascinate ringtones were weak)
PDF files like my current devices user manual that I would like easy access to, but don't want taking up precious storage space on my device. And general (always, not too personal) photos, for the same reasons above.

Agreed though you don't need root to take ROM backup. you just need custom recovery. SD card is freedom. SD card is love. SD card is life. it's a way of transferring and backing up files. what will happen if you drop your phone and it's broken? I can't let all the photos, music and other files to die with it. I have like 5 SanDisk ultra SDHC cards and I'm living happily ever after with them.
